    New Parents Dilemma

Dear friends, we have finally brought little baby home yesterday. Last nite was a real challenge. Constant diaper change (got one episode of fountain), feeding and more feeding never seem to satisfy our precious bundle. By the time i got to sleep it is already 8pm+. Today, the meaning of "On Demand" was fully realised. We're on full mommy milk, was told the milk is highly digestable hence the baby would be hungry all the time, so the baby was demanding milk every 20 or so minutes. Dead tired today and by 4pm today i was already "high". Any ideas?

When i first carried baby i almost teared, I was thinking...."my son" . Here you are, with tiny fingers and toes ... i'm so worried to hold him too tightly just incase his legs would crumble like sand castle!

Also, you would have noticed i have not mentioned baby by name yet because it seems all these while LMei have mentioned everyone and has been addressing baby by the name Ian and likewise i mentioned to everyone and called baby by the name Ethan. What a dilemma . Below is the meaning of the names:

    Ethan: Hebrew
    Means: strong, firm, valiant

    and

    Ian: Scottish
    Means: God is gracious

So, it's now either EthanC or IanC

Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers. Both mommy and baby is doing well and on the mend. And dadda is on Night Patrol...maybe he'll do some soul ala Taylor Hicks.

Hi KelvinC & LMei, Your baby baby is so, so, so adorable......

Lots of kisses from everyone. Since u have introduced your baby as EthanC, Ethan sounds nice.

Enjoy every moment of your night patrol. You will be real tired but it is worth it. My little girl is already 2 years ++. No more night feeding. You got a long way to go.

I think after the 6 weeks there will be colic pain. Baby stomach pain due to wind in the stomach. Get ready, Gripe Water & the Yu Ee Oil.

I strongly am against using Ian. Simply because Malaysians tend to mispronounce that name. I have known too many Ian in Malaysia that has their name always mispronounced.

    Most common mistake: Ai-Yan.

And OH, congrats on your new born! He is an angel!

Does anyone know how many days required to get the mama milk filled up? Is there anyway we can speed up the milk building process?

Seems this little boy has a big appetite. We are reluctant to use formula milk, how ah?

Last option: Infant formula milk – which brand/formula should we go for? Thus far I have heard of S26 (someone mentioned it is the closes to mama’s milk) and Snow. Any reviews or other available alternative?

    Warmest regards to all!

    Free Advice

Firstly, whatever you do, DO NOT switch on the lights at night when diaper-changing. You will interrupt baby's sleep pattern if you hv the light on. Just use a small table light to shine at baby's bottom for the cleaning, and then shut it off again. Use a small night light if needed but keep the brightness away from his eyes. Babies are depending on their biological clock. If you keep this up, he wil know that when it is morning, and the light shines thru the curtains, it is time to wake up. When it is dark, it is time to sleep. Always keep that pattern and you wont hv to struggle thru the night.

When you put baby down to sleep, lean all the way down while holding baby close to you, until he is already on the mattress, then slowly let go. They need the comfort of security which you provide while carrying him. IF you suddenly let him go on the bed, he will wake up. If you hear your back creaking, time to get some exercise. hahahhaha

When baby needs to be fed at night, mommy can still lie down in bed while breastfeeding. Lay some pillows in the right position so that she is comfortable and also baby is comfortable next to her, lie on her side and let baby feed. she can even doze off for a bit till baby is done feeding.
Since it is NOT bottle feeding where there is a lot of air bubbles, there isnt always a major need to burp baby. Usually it is still best to burp baby so that he wont throw up.

To ensure a good supply of milk, dont overdo it on the ricewine and ginger chicken soup. That will dry mommy up. Eat steamed fish, drink lots of milk also to ensure she doesnt hv calcium loss.

As long as you keep baby at a certain routine everyday, things will go smooth. Dont break the routine. Bathe and massage baby in the morning at a certain time each day, and feed him after he is feeling all fresh. Then after the feeding, he will fall asleep. That will give mommy time to rest or catch up on what she needs to do.

Good luck! and once again, Congratulations! Nothing lovelier than a healthy baby

P/S: Cut down on the sesame oil too unless mommy wants to put on a tonne of weight and wonder why she cant get slim again. The sesame oil to me is just a way to prevent constipation. hahaha.. eat fruits. Wont hv a problem there. Breastfeeding helps mommy get back her waistline in no time at all but it wont happen if she drinks all that sesame oil .

Breast milk is production is an on-demand thing. The more baby feeds, the more the body will produce. Give it time. It is a gradual process.

    Hey KelvC
BabyC looks so adorable! Congratulations to you and LMei again.

Maybe if you choose Ethan, wifey can choose the Chinese name? But if it's Ian, then you choose the Chinese name? Either way, both Ethan and Ian are lovely names.

In the meantime, he remains BabyC

Orchi, we both have been laughing our heads off when we hear my MIL pronouncing Ethan's name....from Aden, to Eden, Edan...aiyo.

As for Ian, it's just as bad, see pronounce it as EEEEyean (yesterday) or Yeeyan (this morning)...sigh

I didn't realised naming a child can be this difficult, i have to pronounce the name in Malay and Chinese incase it sounds funny. Thank goodness our parents is coming out with the chinese name list....we'll shortlist and zoom in later (8 more days before registration dateline). I think naming a goldfish (Bluuper or Blubler) or a doggie (errr......Doggie) is much easier.

    The sense of excitement is.....AMAZING!

Oh, fyi, last night's Nitepatrol was much easier...i guess we did something right!

    Cheersmate!

Why not go with simple one like Michael, Paul, John? I love those names.

What a lovely bundle of JOY. Congratulations to both mun and dad.

Ethan is a nice name. So is Ian, except it is often pronounced wrongly in bolehland. I have a friend named Ian, and he has given up correcting people who call him Iron.

    Take care.
