Can you reveal the source of your information? I just wonder how they could possibly do that.

If my service provider does that, I will terminate my service immediately.

However, MS can do that from their server. If you update any patch from June onwards, u will most likely download the "embarassing message" together. It will just display the message everytime u switch it on.

Microsoft have sufficient technology to check every licence key and determine which one is genuine & which one is not. They just need to check for duplicate key registered with their database.

However, I believe Microsoft will not block home users with illegal windows. The reason is microsoft needs high adoption rate. The more user use Windows, the more valuable the OS is, since people won't be able to survive without it. All these while, Microsoft don't bother that we use pirated version of windows at home. Their strategy is that when we are in office, we will have to use original copy of windows.
Imagine when they block home users... everyone will start learn to use Linux, both at home & at work. Windows will then become an option, not a necessity. Sales of windows then starts to drop, and so is its dominance.
This is something Microsoft knows since the beginning of Windows.

How will they be able to differentiate the bussiness from home users? They already have a low cost edition for gamers but the sales of which was very very slow.

yankeat..are you working for microsoft ?? must be a spy here

even the OS have the capability of tracking down, they will not take any action. Dont forget, some companies do share the same license number as its a coorporate account...and its have the same number for every pc. this also applies to MS Office.

The only thing that MS want to curb privacy is to bring down the license fee to make it more affordable for the people to get original..

imagine, windows xp home edition if i am not mistaken, is around RM380. People rather take that money to upgrade their PC and use RM5 to buy pirated software

forget it alex...as someone explained before, MS is a Company out to make profit. They are not a charity organization. The Low Cost Asian version fell flat. That's why they are out for blood now.

A close friend of mine recently had her desktop 'locked' and she couldnt use her pc, so i had to take her to Sunway Pyramid to get a legit copy of XP pro which she wanted, for rm540. They did a backup, reformat and loaded the legit copy for her.. took around 2 hours for all that. A couple of days later, her laptop also had the same problem so off we went to Sunway again to get it done. Barely a couple of days later, her friend's laptop also had the same problem.
