Thanks for the information. Let me comment about the new routes in area5 and 6 that were done by RapidKL. By referring the new routes, what I found was still disappointed when require more than the time take the bus to LRT station. For instance, Kota Damansara citizen wish to take putra LRT should take route 613, 614 to Bandar Utama , after that need to wait another 15mins take route 626 from Bandar Utama to Taman Bahagia LRT station or take route T43 from Bandar Utama to Kelana Jaya LRT station. This means we have to change two time buses then finally reach to LRT station.

So why donít RapidKL establish another route directly from Kota Damansara to any putra LRT station like Taman Bahagia or Kelana Jaya ? I think it is better than you have to spend another 15mins to wait the bus carry you to the final destination, am I right?

Let do some simple calculation. A) Take bus travel from Kota Damansara to Taman Bahagia LRT station/Kelana Jaya LRT station require approximately 20-25mins. B)If according to the new route earlier, one Kota Damansara citizen spend 15mins wait for route 613 or 614 bus goes to Bandar Utama require approx 7mins. After that, he spends another wait for route 626 bus to take him to LRT station requires approx 13mins. In total, the duration is 15+7+15+13=50mins. So, which one faster?

Also I realized that rapidKL still hasnít plan a new routes for Damansara Perdana area when they are a lot business centers in that. Hope RapidKL consider to provide bus service for Damansara Perdana area.

According to the information for the bus routes for Area 6, there will be a trunk bus directly from Kota Damansara to KL Sentral, via Jalan Damansara.

    This will be route T83.

Unfortunately, it will not be in place when the launch happens this weekend.

However, you should recommend to rapidKL that they introduce this route as quickly as possible.

The reason is simple...rapidKL is planning to build an LRT line to Kota Damansara. Having a rapid-transit bus route in place will build customers, so that there is good demand for the LRT when it is finally built.

Online information about the new bus routes for Area 5 and 6

    Dear SJ/USJ forumers

Ive got some great news...rapidKL have updated their website with information about the new bus routes for Area 5 and 6. You may have also noticed that they have started posting route information at their new bus stands.

The website shows an expandable route map which shows just how complicated this new system will be. The map is actually a collection of 6 pages.

It would take ages to look at all the changes that are happening, but here are some details about area 5 and area 6.

    Area 5 Route Profile
43 new Local Shuttle Bus-Bas Temapatan (aka Bas Hijau) routes of which 27 will be introduced this weekend and 16 later on.
7 new Trunk Bus-Bas Utama (aka. Bas Biru) routes of which 5 will be introduced this weekend, and 2 more later one
2 new Express Bus-Bas Ekspres (aka. Bas Jingga) routes

    Area 6 Route Profile
36 new Local Shuttle Bus-Bas Temapatan (aka Bas Hijau) routes of which 28 will be introduced this weekend and 8 later on.
7 new Trunk Bus-Bas Utama (aka. Bas Biru) routes of which 4 will be introduced this weekend and 3 later on
No new Express Bus-Bas Ekspres (aka. Bas Jingga) routes

I hope that the information is useful to you. I realize the system will be complicated, but rapidKL has been very helpful to customers in the past.

Most of these new routes will be able to take you to most of your destinations. I encourage everyone to try out the new public transit system and give their opinions and feedback to rapidKL.

I will be trying out the new bus routes on Saturday. Anyone who wishes to join me can send me a pm or sms.

You're welcome, and the support is always appreciated. Thank you.

Cutting jams cannot be acomplished by improvements to the roads alone. For too long, the goal of traffic management has been to disperse auto traffic, not to reduce it.

However, new roads fill up eventually, (and often faster than expected). To really cut jams, then we must do what we can to support public transit and rapid transit...because they will actually reduce traffic.

    This means:

*encouraging your neighbours and friends to try the new system for their trips...work or leisure.

*making less trips by car, and more trips by bus and encouraging your friends and family to do the same....remember, the local shuttle costs Rm1 per day.

*making fewer Single Occupant Vehicle trips (driving alone) and encouraging your friends and family to carpool...

Please note that you can transfer the pass, and yes, rapidKL knows and they are ok with you reusing the pass or transferring it to someone else.

*encouraging your friends and family to support reserved bus lanes in Subang and USJ.

Yes, I know people dont like the idea of taking away lanes...it sounds wrong but it works.

At first, more cars will be jammed up....but more people will start to switch to transit when they see the buses fly by.

This will leave more space on the roads because people will make more trips by transit and less by cars. This will lead to reduced traffic, which means less jams eventually.

Everyone, please give this transit system as much support as possible. Good public transit will bring benefits to us all.

    Cheers, m

RapidKLís job is done ... what now?
Malaysiakini - Letters to the Editor
    Moaz Yusuf Ahmad
    Sep 22, 06 3:39pm

Today, RapidKL will be launching the new bus system in Area 5 and 6. This will bring new bus service to the areas south and west of Kuala Lumpur, completing the process that began in January with the introduction of the City Shuttle service. They have created dozens of new routes, and made service more reliable in Kuala Lumpur and the areas surrounding the city. For this they should be congratulated.

Now that the service is almost complete, itís time to look closely at public transit infrastructure in our big cities and smaller local communities.

For example, the bus stand at Jalan Hang Kasturi, near Pasar Seni LRT station, will no longer be used by RapidKL buses once they shift to KL Sentral. Is anyone thinking about how this space can be reused? One option would be to shift the Klang and Seremban express buses into the bus stand, so they do not block the main road. Or, to shift some of the Metrobuses away from Kota Raya and Sinar Kota, to wait in front of Pasar Seni LRT station.

With the plans for the Integrated Transit Terminals outside of the city, at Gombak and Bandar Tasik Selatan, there is the question of what to do with the Puduraya bus station, as well as the Plaza Rakyat project. Can these spaces be redesigned so local city buses do not need to wait along the crowded streets of the city?

There are other improvements that can be made outside of KL. For example, there is an intercity coach stand located in the USJ area of Subang Jaya, operated by the Metrobus company. However, if you were passing by, you would not know that this is a coach stand or bus stand. It looks more like a repair yard, with many buses parked in a lonely, empty parking lot. This is a place that would be ideal as a transit terminal for the USJ and Subang areas. It could host local metrobuses, intercity coaches, and even buses to the airport.

Anyone who has been around the KL Sentral bus stand recently would know that there are already too many buses in the area. The area is too narrow and crowded and the air is choking with diesel fumes. There is not enough room for buses to move around. A new bus stand is necessary at KL Sentral to handle the local buses, Genting buses, airport buses, etc. that are crowding the area.

It is time for the government and public transit operators to focus on improving this vital service. Many more people will switch to public transit if the service is organised and usable, not chaotic and disorderly. Now that the bus system has been restructured, safe, clean, organised bus stations with useful information for passengers would be the next logical step.

Rapid starts new service covering PJ to Klang
    By ESTHER CHANDRAN

AREAS 5 & 6, which make up one third of Rapid KLís bus network system, will be launched today with free rides offered to commuters from tomorrow to Monday.

The official launch will be held at Sunway Pyramid.

Commuters are advised to hold on to their free tickets from the launch areas in Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Puchong, Klang, Shah Alam, Subang and Subang Jaya when trying out the local, trunk and city shuttle services.

The ticket is valid for a day.

Describing it as the biggest area under Rapid KLís new bus network system, Rapid KL chief operating officer for bus operations Mohd Ali Mohd Nor said Areas 5 & 6 would have a total of 264 buses plying nine trunk lines (92 buses), 47 shuttle lines (162 buses) and one express line (10 buses).

Mohd Ali briefing the media on new bus routes under Areas 5 & 6.
The local shuttle frequents at a 15-minute interval while the trunk line takes 10 minutes.

There will be a total of 1,257 new bus stops with information panels to provide commuters with information on the routes and bus numbers.

Mohd Ali said the express line plying KL Sentral to Klang makes two stops at Batu 10 and Asia Jaya (Armada Hotel and Petaling Jaya Hilton).

ďBy Saturday (tomorrow), the old service in Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Puchong, Subang, Subang Jaya, Damansara and Klang comes to an end as the new service takes over,Ē he said at a media briefing at the Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn Bhd head office off Jalan Lapangan Terbang Subang in Petaling Jaya on Wednesday.

ďBy Sept 23 (tomorrow), Rapid KLís basic bus network system will be in place.

ďWith the new system, we are giving our customers assurance in timing as timing was rather unpredictable with the old system,Ē he said.

ďThe rail system alone cannot take the movement of the Klang Valleyís 4.7 million population and that is why we have 26 trunk lines in place.

Mohd Ali said when the entire bus network system was completed, Rapid KL would cover 979 housing estates whereas the old system serviced only 600 housing areas in the Klang Valley.
