    ...and so do austrians.
not only to victims (not direct), but to jewish organizations and fonds.
for example austrian banks, for dealing with nazi-currency when hitler took over austria.

    no guys,

wat i mean is during the very beginning of war, when the tankers first drive into their village, demanding their human right and started pulling jews into the trucks, why cant there some jews against all this ? wny cant there some jews that stand up and against all these house relocation? all these unfair treatment? i mean isnt there somebody asking: WHY SHOULD I? in the very first place ?

    from my humble understandings...

Adolf Hitler targetted the Jews as he believed that they (the Jews) were in too much control of everything in Germany. As his political and military power grew, he used it forcibly on the German Jews, following with the Polish Jews and the rest of his Nazi occupied countries.... there were resistance but it didn't amount to much as most of these Jews were white collared people like bankers, merchants, doctors etc etc...

What I don't get is why only the Germans and Germany had to pay retribution to the Jewish communities and organisation when the Soviets (under Stalin) committed worst atrocities towards the Jewish communities. Same goes towards the then Imperial Japanese Occupation for the atrocities committed during their Pan Asian conquests... seems they too were exempted from proper apologies and retribution...

I guess it all boils down to who was in charge then, after the war!!!...

    to usj27 resident,

what u mean is white collar ppl dun have the strength to fight?

but whats funny is that if at that time jews held such importent roles in the society, there must also be some significant jews roles in the society that strongly against the nazis and also united his people to fight against them. and they should also foreseen their situation when hitler reign if they are the educated one. bah

    i dun get it.

I don't think it's fair making comments without knowing the entire story. You really have to understand the political atmosphere during that era. Would resistance put up by a group of almost defenseless villagers have helped against a vastly more prepared and organized army? Even then allies were treading carefully not wanting to have a situation blown out of porportion. Of coz it did end up being World War 2.
I do suggest further reading and research instead of basing your conclusion on just one documentary.

In Germany they first came for the Communists
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
    Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

And of course there are those who claim that these were all a big fat fabrication that was a conspiracy to get Israel formed on Arab land.

That it ( holocaust ) happenned ........... cant argue, meh !!!!

That the solution for the collective guilt of the Allies was to carve a slice of land out of the heartland of areas inhabited by Arabs ( not MUSLIMS but ARABS ...... these blokes grazed their herds, grew their meager crops, & tended to their families in areas now forcibly occupied by Israelis ..... NOT JEWS ) and allow / encourage the Israelis ( not JEWS but ISRAELIS ) to ride roughshod over the Palestinians who were uprooted ....... WEELLLLLLLLL !! stretch of imagination, lor ....... difficult to understand logic lor ....
Disclaimer : I have forgiven the Biblical Jews for the atrocities they visited upon my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ ...... Thus I am at peace with the Biblical Jews ..... but the later day breed of Israelis ....... shhheeeessshhh, man, there is a limit !!!

There are enough reading materials out there for one to read and to know about the WW2. However, please do take note of the identity, nationality and personal background of the authors or the historians writing the book. Just like any piece of history, most storyteller tend to mix in his/her personal opinions, beliefs and stands when telling the story. I was made to understand that, even now, the history textbook used in Japanese schools give a different version of Japan's role in the WW2, i.e. they give the impression that they did NOT started the war and that Japan, just like any other countries in south east asia, was the victim of Western agression.
This is not surprising as Japanese are not the only one doing this. WE all know that the US was beaten to pulp in Vietnam, to the extent that, it was the first time in history that US military men literally run out of enemy's country in the midddle of the night. But in all Rambo's films, the vietnamese were portrayed as stupid and the whole vietnamese battallion were easily outwitted by Rambo single-handedly. Some people may say that Rambo is only entertainment. But hey, don't forget! In a society where the habit of reading books is an endangered habit, "truth" is in grave danger of being forgotten forever. Even worse, we depends on US and western media to tell us the "truth". Joseph Goebbels himself once said that lies told over and over again will finally be accepted by people as the truth.
I fully agree with BOBKEE that Israel was carved out of Arabs land by the US and Britain to pay for their "sins" to the Jews.

JG = couldn't agree with you more...

Israelis are Jews.. and for the people that suffered so much from the time of the Pharoahs... instead of learning about suffering and compassion, they are instead inflicting the very same suffering to their fellow neighbors...

Man, if I had a neighbor that constantly bullies me... I too, would one day "snap" and go after him! No wonder, why the Arabs have this "hate" relationship with Israel!

If you all said the same things in the developed "western" countries, you could be charged with anti-Semitism. that link also provides a brief insight to the whole issue - interesting read.

As for asking why the Jews did not resist certain death, I have found a website that perhaps answer your question - http://www.adl.org/uprising/faq.asp - no need for us to make guesses and go around in circles.
