    Anyone got Streamyx problem?

Streamyx is having a line disruption yesterday from 2pm to 8pm. Looks like today is down earlier. But at least we can still surf parcially that means certain website can go in and certain cannot.

Who is having the same problem too?

TM has been experiencing problem since Tuesday evening, intermittently some exchange goes down, at my place at Jln Kuching we have been experiencing the roller coaster for the past 3 days…luckily we have backup ISDN, so not so much interrupted…

ADSL is up for now…not sure how long it will stay?!!

Is broadband connection (e.g. Streamyx) in Malaysia weather-prone? I have only experienced before dial-up connection, so I am a complete novice towards streamyx

    Cheers

Thunder storms don't affect Streamyx but I shut down nonetheless since the modem is connected to the phone line - a nearby lightning strike can easily induce sufficient charge to the modem cable to fry your modem. With a direct hit, your PC would be fried as well.

Yep, I had problem, big time! Finally, I managed to have streamyx installed on Dec 07, 2005. Service was out on Dec 30, 2005 till Jan 27, 2006. Seems they have a problem with the new "M-ports", whatever that may be. Each and every technician/supervisor/customer service rep/etc had their own version why service was out. Don't know for sure who's telling the truth. Anyway, glad service was resumed just before the CNY holidays. However, I hope my joy won't be shortlived. Trouble is, when streamyx was out, I can't access dial up too. I had to use Maxis GPRS, and since no one could tell when streamyx would be restored then, I didn't subsribe to the unlimited data plan. I had to pay 1 sen/kb, upload/download. Now, I'm waiting for my maxis bill with baited breath!

I'd got surge protector installed for my phone line earlier, but when started to used streamyx, the connection will not go through with the surge protector in between..... once this surge protector is removed, streamyx connection went through.....is this odd or what .... anyone having the same problem ? Thanks.

It all depends on what surge protection devices you are using. When you add a surge device to the line you are adding a certain amount of impedance to the signal line . For adsl signal some extra capacitance added , when you add your surge protection, may significantly reduce the signal strength. Therefore you may have to insist that it is a low capacitance n inductance device. A gas tube discharge arrestor or some low capacitance solid state semiconductor surge device may fit this type of application.
