If the door lock is a cheap cylinderical lock..a pointed chisel and heavy hammer is the best tool to whack it open!..I'm NOT joking!..
Whack in the keyhole centre right through and the knob and other parts will slowly fall apart, systematically dismantle the parts till you see latch assembly. Then use a thin screwdriver and pull the latch free...Voila! door open!

New lock is cheaper than locksmith..can also DIY fix yourself as the lockset comes with sufficient fitting instructions. All u need is a philips head screwdriver.
have thought of that, unfortunately it's a mortise lockset for main door, by using force i might have to change the whole door if damage it, still looking for other alternative before taking that option lor ..

I have seen it done. Put a small wooden plank over the door knob (the ones that have a press lock), whack with a hammer. Somehow the spring of the lock would just bounce open. Doesn't damage door at all! Easiest way for a thief to open this kind of door locks as well.
A wise man refrains from talking but a fool utters rubbish.
currymee,
U can find a good locksmith in USJ 8...half shop lot.....he is good but not cheap.I used him to change my front wood door lock and if u r like me...butterfinger type...dont try to do it yourself....end of day...will cost more.
A simple screwdriver & a bit of whacking should do the job of dismantling the parts.
The press lock type come with a small tool that allows you to open them from the outside (side opposite the press button).Originally Posted by LMei

Knock as it shalt be opened. If not, bang it. Just like LMei or Bslee said. Bang it. She bang it with the wood, I bang it with a telephone book. Happy banging.Originally Posted by currymee

Finally, my wife said don't hammer anythingOriginally Posted by patrick
go call someone, so I went with Patrick's choice - called Hong Seng, they came, they saw, they hammered also !!
, they chiseled, they screwed
they cost me a few bucks also .... but price is reasonable as I have also checked with a few others, +/- a few bucks. Thanks everyone for the suggestion, I have called all of them for comparisons.
I have decided NO MORE cylindrical locks, switched over to deadbolts - at least NO BLOODY SPRINGS !!
PS: Wifey said, if I go DIY, I better go buy a NEW DOOR !! What a lack of faith in my skills leh ....![]()
