This pic should help. ;) The picture is from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation virtual Sky tour...
Much better, Naka. But you're missing the distinctive head of Scorpius. This is like identifying a person by only seeing from the chest downwards. You need to get double this viewing angle to show...
Stargazing, Malaysian style, last Saturday at the Planetarium Negara.

Nicely done, l-o-l! That is just about the usual eyepiece view through a typical 4" refractor at low magnification. You hand held this shot?
This is the Southern Cross region of the Milky Way, Scorpius is completely out of view, way way to the left of this image. FYI we can quite easily observe this star rich region from Subang Jaya...
Me too wants to know!
I'm wild guessing they are motorised supports for not yet installed solar panels.
A Troughton and Simms meridian telescope! I was puzzling over how it could rotate in Right Ascension with the two supporting arms bolted down.....turns out it's not meant to. Ingenious!
Have already devoured your Flickr shots.
yes, padan muka u. Maybe hubby should also get involved in astrophotography, then no need to ask... :)
I think it's becoming quite unusual to do any...
L-O-L, we're waiting patiently for the pics......or are you still at the campground?
Ya, in 30 seconds, the ISS can pass over a fifth of the sky, especially when it crosses near zenith.
The horizontal streak could be the SWIFT satellite, based on time and direction of movement....
Easy one, that's the ISS.

Whoa, fantastic shot (last pic), mick. Assuming you took these within the last 3 days, that streak looks suspiciously like an early and very rare Sagittarids shooting star. Of course, other than Ms...
Good one, mick! Goes to show that you don't need a wide again lens for Ms Milky. Luckily I still haven't bought the Samyang. Now I think I should just go invest in a fast standard lens maybe around...
Clear Skies, L-O-L! Have a great time at the PO, and I really envy your hubby for being able to `work' around the incredible Hale telescope.

Last Saturday night. Managed to shoot Jupiter showing the GRS (Great Red Spot aka Great Orange Spot) and...
Nope, overslept and woke up at nearly 5am. Tried some shots but Jupiter was getting low in the west by then and behind thin clouds. Next few days the weather wasn't too cooperative for photography,...
It's that time of the year again, Jupiter is at Opposition.

Took this single frame shot with my Sony A6000 a...
It was not an error. My kitchen tap did go dry last night, and some dirty water came out of the tap this morning (typical indication of some form of mains water supply interruption). I guess some of...
Couldn't agree with you more, kwchang. And yes, astrophotography can be extremely time consuming. But some people enjoy it so much, I won't knock them as it is entirely according to their personal...
This could turn into an interesting technical discussion.
I'd agree with you on the general principle of shooting at longer shutter speeds and lower ISOs in almost ALL low light conditions. This...
In Live Composite mode, the base exposure can be set quite long, for example, 30 seconds (correct me if I'm wrong, Firefly) with a duration up to 3 hours. In the case of Firefly's shot, he set the...
My opinion: Live Composite mode better for the aurora, stars and shooting stars, whereas Live Time mode better for the Milky Way. Just an opinion, mind you, from someone who has never used a 4/3...
