Negaraku, version 2003
The national anthem - Negaraku - will be renamed Malaysiaku.
Composer Wah Idris has been commissioned to give it a new lease of life, with a new beat, in time for the 46th Hari Kebangsaan. The original Negaraku was adapted from Perak's state anthem, Terang Bulan, and was chosen as the national anthem on August 5, 1957 by a selection jury headed by Malaysia's first PM, Tunku Abdul Rahman. Negaraku was later changed to a fast-March beat and unveiled during the 1992 National Day celebrations. Now, spot the difference to the lyrics: Malaysiaku, tanah tumpahnya darahku Via Utusan Malaysia, July 30. |
Heheh.. what a "revolutionary" change...
|
aiyoh........i'm too old to learn how to sing a new song ..............
|
Maybe they are just changing the music accompanying and only slightly changing the lyrics? The version I know is such a drag to sing on a Monday morning.
|
Hmm... what's the latest update on this heh? Anyone knows?
|
thought they decided not to changed the lyrics, just a faster tempo... so, no worries, jericho my fren...:)
|
hi all..
romi_o is right there...i've heard from a tv program this morning saying that the cabinet will not change our national anthem and it will left at its prensent state due to protest from a numbers of people. but i think they will still stick to the marching tune. i wonder why they want to change everything...they should change their attitude first.. |
Malaysiaku or Negaraku, both also wrong. This only applies during election, mah!!!! Other times is 'different', mah!!! Quota system, remember. ;)

Please elaborate lord.... I don't understand what you're trying to say  |
minnie: i think lord meant (correct me if i'm wrong, lord) that malaysiaku or negaraku is only meant for someone.... and the politikus only use them to refer to everyone when election, rite, lord?
|
Well Minnie, I meant just like what Romi-O said. The politikus in our country will emphasize and swear by everything that we are all Malaysians no matter what our race and creed is. But in actual fact, it's all a load of bull****. There are still discrimination in getting jobs, education, buying a house and what not.
Back in my school days, I used to be proud when I sang the national anthem. I was not like the rest who just sang it for the sake of singing. I was right there, man. "Tanah Tumpahnya darahku", very deep meaning, yes? This is the only line which depicts the whole anthem, I guess. But sit down and think if this is actually true in your life? I can elaborate at length on this, but it's very touchy! I rather not. If you can understand, well and good. If you can't, no problem also. ;) |
nice touching up, lord :) giv me five? haha
yes, i do feel that... i'm also singing our national anthem with deep feelings back in my primary school yrs... but now, it's just bull****, i'll still support our nation, but with all those politikus out there, i'm thinking of 3rd world country in developing... anyway, read from paper that they r still planning to change the word |
I guess maybe they still want to mark this year somehow in a significant way. To thank Dr. M. Perhaps as a crowning glory piece he gets to sing it for the first time publicly with the new lyrics?
|
it's like our Bahasa Malaysia... forever changing... Bahasa baku... non-Baku... pronunciations change, new malaysianised words etc etc.... no long termisation in anything we do. even something as important as our national anthem. i bet u, when someone else takes over in the future, he will change the anthem again to something he prefers.
|
I think there is nothing sacred anymore in this world. Street names are being changed at a town council's whim. I remember once someone suggested changing Jalan Yap Ah Loy to something else. What's the use? Maybe we should have a Britney Spears song a our anthem? Definitely has a better beat than our current anthem.
