I dont buy the expensive varieties. As i said i drink quite a bit ( it is supposed to have anti oxidant properties). Actually I can make quite a few rounds from each brew so the cost per drink is actually quite ok. Rather than spending 1.50 or 5 for a pot of essentially lousy chinese tea I rather not drink anything and go drink at home. In fact my current daily drink costs us7/50 grams which I find is pretty good for the price. As i said the reason why I went online was because most of the tea shops i go to are not really interested to layan a banana like me. They would try to push their most expensive teas to me which I cannot afford .

I drink Japanese green tea too although much less compare to Chinese tea.. but I only buy the tea bag.

Green tea is not fermented at all... hence preserving the freshness is a big challenge especially in humid weather.

Most Japanese green tea is in powder form and the taste directly linked to its freshness and how you store in your house..

I guess green tea in tea bag form is a good choice.

Unless in Japanese restaurant where the green tea consumption rate is fast... the tea can still be fresh when it is boiled.

Generally, I consume about 150g of Chinese tea leaves per month.

I only buy those in the price range of rm80-100 per 100 gram.

It can last me months. sometimes its only about 100 ringgit. I always have some in stock so they overlap a bit. Actually I buy japanese green tea leaves . Unlike the chinese teas which are plucked, the japanese ones are cut and they cut it together with the stems. The powdered ones are matcha which are made into a soup like consistency. I have not actually taken that cos it involves buying utensils like a bamboo whisk and a matcha bow to whisk it. The more expensive japanese tea is the gyukoro which is tea plants that are covered with a mesh to prevent sunlight from reaching the plants for a few weeks before they are harvested. It comes out very green but it is expensive and more complicated to brew requiring even lower water temperatures. Its nice but expensive so I stick with the normal green tea or sencha. If I am not wrong the green tea powder that you are referring to is sencha powder which is produced for convenience for commercial customers. Drinking japanese tea requires a bit of work. Tea bags would be a convenient alternative.

You can get quite decent tea in the 80-100/100 grams region. Like I said buy what you are comfortable with and like rather than what the shop tries to push to you.

Meanwhile, I've still got that box of Harrods and Ahmed Tea assortment. Last me for months too!

I started enjoying green tea when I worked in the Japanese restaurant. have tried Chinese varieties of green tea but it is not the same. The color, texture and the aroma is different. And I enjoyed the Japanese green tea with toasted rice.

Tea is like wine - it is not the price but what you wanna to look for or prefer. while working in some up class restaurants where I get to sample some expensive wines every Fridays but ended up recommending mid price and even lower priced wines that surprised some patrons who appreciated the recommendation not based on the price. Once was called by the boss who furiously asked me why I dun recommended expensive range of wines. Told him that customers even VIP appreciated to try some honest opinions where they were seen coming back more often than usual. And I get to order them the more expensive signature menu on the house. It was a win win business. I was selling the restaurant biz instead for the wines companies. The American Italian Boss who was a chef owner decided to leave me alone instead of sacking me.:D

I always presume JAPANESE green tea is of its own class, color, taste and satisfaction, especially if its their own homegrown product. Made in Japan.
For me other Chinese or Taiwan green tea products are entirely different, and mostly visually distant from the Jap green tea. OK, me no expert on this but I'll just buy some Made in Japan green tea and mostly satisfied on the purchase. Don't want to quibble too much this is cheap stuff, that is so much better, this is commercial, that is for the discerning...me no time to research all that jazz.

Where taste is concerned, I fully agree. It's in its own class, for better or for worse. & it tastes nothing like arse-kicking Chinese tea, imho. It tastes seaweed-ish. And I am not a big fan of seaweed. :)

Oh well, Taste and satisfaction of anything is entirely a personal choice. Honestly I've never sensed some seaweed taste in the past? I always think is an excellent drink anytime, especially brewed at home. Far far better than paying 40 sen for some prone to improperly washed foul smelling glass at some kopitiam with tea in it. Never again.

I agree with you on your "taste and satisfaction of anything is entirely a personal choice" remark. One man's meat is indeed another man's poison. That has been proven time and again. :)

Don't even start me on the 50 cent foul-smelling glass of recycled Chinese tea served at most coffee shops in town!! :mad:

Truth being told, all very evident and continuance, this land and the food business still have grave hygiene and health issues. I just don't see it improving.
I bet my bottom dollar gahmen will do little or not care in proper enforcement and well being of ALL! Can't even rid of dish washing on the sidewalk and backlanes. You think they likely invest in some proper industry standard dishwasher?...Never really a consideration! Some foreign labor doing it all manually is cheaper! :mad:

Me too. This is going to go on as long as there the authorities don't give a damn. I foresee that going on forever. We just got to take it upon ourselves to stop patronizing these unhygienic places.

Errr...I think Patrick gave some review here long ago.Look it up. I used to remind my family..this wasn't the case in my younger life. Yes, I did fancy satay anytime cos my dad would take me along whenever he was entertained by some other people. I could eat a lot then...not now, not ever..eventhough I still can..health sake lah!
A lot of outside gravies are now sweet, sweet, over sweet!..not referring to PYT's :heheheh: No surprise why lots of folks are suffering from medical complications early in life. People don't seem to learn anything! Prevention is better than cure, death is the ONLY guarantee in life! and pray you don't die painfully! God willing!

Yes Amcorp...where else in Klang Valley to have RM5-10 (of course there's other vendors asking much more) LP's.
I only have a greatest hits ABBA cd and one other album I bought in the 80's. But Super Trouper album is sweet!..nearly every track is wonderful.

Well, within a hour, armed with a Bosh tile cutter but fitted with a 4" carbide tipped saw blade, air compressor, pneumatic nailer, I helped to build a huge rack for something. Its not a cupboard or cabinet in resemblance but quite a simple structure. Yes, might as well help as we can easily presume not finding some carpenter to do this kind of "small, petty or custom" job at short notice. Maybe all these trade fellas only want to do "big" jobs and profit well. He told me this when he tried to acquire a carpenter to cut and install 18 units of window architrave at his place. All the carpenters just wasn't interested. I solely did it all for him..all in a day's work with my power machinery..otherwise I'd tell him go fly kites. I ain't holding some silly hammer and ordinary wood nails banging all of them into place like some monkey on a ladder. Some of which are difficult to reach, especially for old man like me..The pneumatic nailer is a GEM!..fast, very efficient but dangerous tool!
I could have done much better or professional job if I had brought along my Makita mitre saw. But then the machine is stored deep into my store and a hassle to get it out. Anyway, buddy isn't after the highest class carpentry, the rack is purely something functional and make do. Wood sections were already ready purchased from a shop selling moulded profile timber..not cheap though. I do what I can do if I've the time..otherwise..go fly a kite :heheheh:

I think the taste (and thus the way the tea is brewed or prepared and consumed) is strongly related to the food over a long long period of time, or tradition over many generations.

Chinese tea blends well with traditional Chinese food (not those apanama or fusion chinese food)...
Hence, the so-called “green tea” of Chinese tea is also fermented albeit in the mildest magnitude as the taste of fermented tea blend well with Chinese food..

I can’t comment much on Japanese food although I am a regular consumer of raw seafood including the Japanese sashimi.. But one thing for sure, the taste of raw green tea from a cup of boiled Japanese tea is the perfect drinks after eating sashimi especially if you like the sauce that accompany the sashimi.

I drink Japanese tea from tea bag for the reason of convenience more than the taste.. When busy, the tea bag is handy.

I am a lazy folk and won't follow all the processes required in praparing tea...
I use a purple-clay cup with build-in strainer (also made from purple clay). The reason for this clay material is – it can keep the temperature longer than other porcelain clay and hence no need to finish the hot tea in a hurry..:p

Remember I mentioned the Panasonic electric thermos in previous post..
I find it an ideal appliance because after the water is boiled, you can keep warm at 90 and 95 deg C which imo, perfect temperature for preparing Chinese tea.

You got that spot on! Japanese green tea sure tastes like Japanese food, especially the black sauce. You know of course by now that I am not fond of Japanese food but I do like tempura. :)

You're a big fan of the group, are you not? :) Another Abba LP? Cool. What other LPs (by other singers) do they stock? What about CDs? Any CDs by Commodores, Rainbow, Wings and so on? If I were them, I'd put up a list of available titles in Facebook. You think they are doing that already?

I follow my own mind and that include sudden desire to listen to music that were once so familiar and nostalgic. The Lp is there on the cheap, if I don't take it, someone else will. I'm not the only person in town having the desire. Nope..most of those sellers don't advertise anywhere. Its a flea market, they sell as they please and entirely at your own luck. If its there, its there. Too late and someone else will grab them. I've had my fair share of regrets of items that I dismissed or to be thought over..too late..gone by the time I return again.
Speaking about this now doesn't necessarily make me some big fan. I just got it on the cheap..what the heck?..play and enjoy the haul!
There were a few more, maybe familiar to some, maybe not. Pepe Jaramillo orchestra (Studio 2 recording), Herb Alpert Greatest hits (Spanish Flea and Tijuana Taxi fame), ABBA and some stereo sampler LP from Studio 2. All lovely albums in my opinion. Princely sum of RM20 for the lot! You can be amazed my properly setup LP rig will beat some CD digital system hands down...IMHO!
I'm so glad I didn't throw away my records 20 years ago, I'll be kicking myself in the buttt if I did!

Can get from airport and is my MUST BUY items when I am in airport ... Price is ok, about RM40 per box…

Of course, Godiva chocolate is the best but this is a throat-cutting chocolate. One box is also about 40.. but is EURO40.. :eek:

If interested, can get in KLCC.

My all time favourite is Kit Kat...nothing else really matters. From young till now..and best of all available just about anywhere.
Some years ago, met someone working in a local chocolate confectioner, was told that local produced products are purposely made sweeter for local consumption. I told myself...SHYTE!!! :mad:
