How to make Quaker Oats tastier?

Last weekend i decided to buy a tin of Quaker Oats for daily breakfast, as I received a "revelation" of the "evilness" of a daily roti canai can do to your waist (actually i knew for years but there are no other breakfast around here that are "interesting") :D

This morning, I took the tin to the office and had my first oats serving in years and remembered why i never finished my oats before i went to school. Being more matured, and splashed RM10.50, i have finished my first bowl of oats. :p

Since the tin that I bought, actually it was wifey, was 1kg and not wanting to dump the whole tin into the dumpster, is there any kindred spirit out there who can advise how to make a bowl of oat a little easier and tastier and yet make papa Quaker proud?

Bearing in mind, the original plan was to have the oats as daily breakfast, but now...maybe once a month.....err....once a week? Geee, ok ok, 1 (Mon), 3(Wed), 5 (Fri). Might still missed good ole canai. Let's start 2 & 4, if goes down well down to tummy, will then upgrade to 1, 3, 5. :D

*Sigh* Need help

hAHAHA! I had the same problem. My friend recommended oats to reduce my cho.
At first, it tasted like cardboard bits in water. After a while it just like drinking water.
My style 1/3 hot water. 4 big spoon. Stir. Add 2/3 cooler water. Bottoms up :D

You can add milo w/o sugar and some times i see the kids eat with banana and fruits.

I do this way....hope you can decipher my recipe....just like boiling porridge lah!

1. Put some Quaker oats in a small pot and add water - I think about 3/4 cups will do. Something like cooking porridge lah!
2. Place in gas stove. Cook until the oats turned soft and creamy. Careful of overflowing water when it is boiling...
3. Pour into a plate and add some milk. I don't know you...I add a bit of condensed milk. Stir it baby!
4. Heavenly...!!! And healthy..!!!

Enjoy!
Cheers!

This is the traditional way ... Alternate ways that I could suggest :-
1. add raisins or some canned fruits to your cooked oats.
2. serve in more diluted, make it as a drink... drink more frequent. You can add Milo or Coco drink for taste.

Last but not least.... have it with the end in mind - think of your health ... think of praises by your friends, relatives, and most importantly wifey .. and you will eat it. If still difficult to swallow... try to keep yourself busy while eating oats... such as reading newspaper, reading books or surfing internet. :)

Boil like porridge. Lots of water. Add salt and minced meat. No need to add milk as this is a savoury dish.

My mum used to make this for breakfast.

Nowadays, I am on the run but need it to reduce cholesterol. I buy the instant ones and add hot water to make it like a porridge. Add iodised salt. Good for the tea-time when you sometimes have hunger pangs.

Tasty Oats...

Oats...Hmm...heard from my dad's doctor about how to make oats more...well....bearable...is add fruits in...raisins, bananas, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries (pretty much all the berries), or if not, can always cook it with chicken (like porridge), or add honey/maple syrup in like my dad.

Oats (Quaker especially) is proven to reduce cholesterol by a max of 25%. Or so any cardiologists would tell you as well. So eat oats in the morning only and not at night, as the effects will differ by the time of the day...

hi KelvC

there are traditional quaker (need to cook) and instant quaker. i hope u did not by the traditional one and bring it to office...

i used to be like you, roti canai breakfast almost daily but now oat and milk is my daily breakfast and already started 3-4 months...i usually take with milk, banana (ripe), or add raisin, strawberries...

no point adding artificial like salt, ajinomoto since u are turning into health conscious mode.

with daily oat breakfast, balance vege/meat lunch and dinner, a lot of fruits and regular exercise...i lost around 8KG and now my BMI is in the best reading...
