New City Shuttle Bus route #116
I also learned yesterday that rapidKL has introduced a new City Shuttle Route, from KLCC to Pusat Bandar Damansara.
This route is #116. The fare is RM2 and that would get you unlimited service on the rapidKL City Shuttles. You can also purchase the RM4 Pas Semua for all bus service, on board.
The last trip from KLCC to Damansara is 6:00 pm. I believe there is a trip back from Damansara but I dont have that detail.
This looks like a commuter route, to get people living in Damansara to work in KLCC and back to Damansara. It may also be in place to gauge ridership
...rapidKL still has those plans for an LRT from Kerinchi to Damansara.
information about rapidKL route 116 (KLCC to PB Damansara)
Here's the information about rapidKL route 116 (KLCC to PB Damansara)
Buses depart from KLCC and travel along Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Tun Ismail (PWTC), Langgak Tunku, Jalan Duta, Jalan Semantan before getting to Pusat Bandar Damansara.
The return trip is along the same routes, but in reverse direction. The fare is RM2 and the ticket can be used on any City Shuttle bus for a whole day.
As the routes serve mostly officer workers, the spokesman said buses would depart from KLCC only at the following times: 6.30am, 7am, 7.30am, 8am, 8.30am, 9am, 9.45am, 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.15pm, 1pm, 1.45pm, 2.30pm, 3pm, 4pm, 4.30pm, 5pm, 5.30pm and 6pm.

This service began in early May but no update of the website...
Latest update...new service to arrive in Subang and USJ in August
An article in the Sun newspaper has given more information about the plans for the restructuring of the rapidKL bus services.
The next area to be restructured (called area 4) will be the southeast and south-south east areas of KL, meaning specifically Sg. Besi, Cheras, Ulu Langat, and points between. These buses will use the KL Sentral and Maluri hubs.
There will also be an express bus service to putrajaya from KL Sentral, at RM4 (unlimited travel).
This restructuring will take place beginning July 1.
Area 5 restructuring will begin in August, probably August 1. Area 5 will include Seri Petaling, Puchong, Subang Jaya, and South PJ.
Area 6 restructuring will begin in August as well, probably August 16 or 31 (judging by the pattern seen so far). Area 6 will include north PJ, Damansara, Shah Alam, Glenmarie, and Klang.
So, Subang and USJ are Area5. Judging by what has been done in Area 3 and Area 2, Area 5 can expect 3-4 new trunk bus routes (Bas Utama, RM2) and about 30 new local bus routes beginning with the number 5 (bas tempatan, RM1).
There will be a mix of the new and the old buses. I have already seen some of these buses testing out routes in USJ and Subang Jaya. If you see a rapidKL bus with a GREEN circle on the back it is a local bus (bas tempatan), while a BLUE circle means a trunk bus (bas utama). RED circle is the KL City Shuttle(Bas Bandaraya).
Of possible interest to puchong, sri petaling, and damansara residents
The new rapidKL bus service has begun operations in Area 4 which is SE of KL down to Putrajaya and Kajang.
Of some interest to people living in Damansara and Sri Petaling and Puchong are the following routes:
Route T43 is a limited stop trunk bus (bas utama) route from Bandar Utama to Putrajaya. It makes 3 stops between Bandar Utama (1 Utama mall) and Putrajaya (Putrajaya Sentral, aka the Western Transport Terminal).
These stops are at Damansara Uptown, Kelana Jaya LRT, and IOI Mall.
Also worth noting are the many new local bus (bas tempatan) routes from Bandar Bukit Jalil and Sri Petaling to Sri Petaling and Bukit Jalil LRT stations.
Subang Jaya, Puchong, USJ, and PJ will receive new service next month as part of Area 5
Feature in the Star about new Area 4 bus service
The Star Newspaper has featured a report on the new rapidKL restructured bus service in Area 4 (Cheras, Putrajaya, Kajang) in the Metro Section on Monday July 10, 2006.
There are 3 articles as part of the feature, which are:
* We’ve connected the suburbs to the city, says CEO
* Tiring three-bus trip for Cheras folks
* Going gets tough on new system
Most of the articles are not positive about the restructured system...because it is more complicated, the waiting for buses can be long, and because many people dont like transferring buses.
However, it is worth it to read about the issues since the new service will arrive in Area 5 and Area 6 in August.
(Area 5 is the area south of the Federal Highway from KL to Klang, including Subang, USJ, parts of PJ, etc. Area 6 is the area north of the Federal Highway from KL to Klang, including Shah Alam, Damansara, much of PJ, etc.)
In my opinion, I support the transfer based service but I believe that there are ways to improve the service. In any case, the companies like Metrobus etc will still offer service in the traditional way direct into the city centre.
I hope the information proves to be useful to you.
