Subang Ria Park

The park is in a shameful state. I went there for a jog yesterday. The place is horrible. The jogging trake is badly damaged. There is litters almost everywhere. There is a big hole in the middle of the track. (As big as a car)So dangerous. Who is managing the park > SIme UEP? What are they doing? With the amount of money they are making and they cant take care of one park. What a shame. They are only encouraging other ppl to abuse the place.

Even though the place was in such a shameful state but it was still a good jog for me. The air is fresher compare to doing any treadmill at fitness centre. There is plenty of fitness centre here in SJ but the outdoor jog at the park was all i ever needed. It was so much fresher and relaxing. I wish people could be more concern. This is the only green lung park in subang jaya. USJ have none. Please people do something.....

when they maintain it so poorly, then people dont show up to use it...

when people dont show up...crime and decay starts to set in....

then a few years down the line, someone has a bright idea and revisits the old plans for "development" and there goes another green lung!

This is a classic example of how the community can get together and make a difference....

anyone want to start with a series of activities? Photo sessions of the construction of the Subang-Kelana link would be an interesting start...how about "nature" walks...train spotting...a community barbecue?

Maybe we can somehow advertise a phony byelection and then our development and maintainance problems would be solved?

Ok, enough sarcasm...time for a walk in the park and a few letters from the USJ folk.

State rep to represent residents at hearing

Subang Jaya state assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng will represent the residents when Sime UEP Properties Berhad’s plans to rehabilitate and commercially develop the Subang Ria park come up for public hearing

For those of you who are interested, the plans will be unveiled at a public hearing at Holiday Villa on June 9.

It would be really excellent if you can turn up and view the plans. With the development of the Kelana highway, the SJMC car park, and these Sime Darby plans, the size of the park will be reduced...and this could be bad if the plans are not made to be people centred, focused on the people's demands and needs, not that of the corporations.

My God, as if the area around Subang Ria Park ISN'T developed enough already.

Take the toilets and the jogging track but kick out the water fountain and amphitheatre. Haven't they seen the "Bird Park" at the Kewajipan roundabout before?

"Once all this work is done, the park will look big and open". Nice. Then they decide to rape 7 hectares worth of land for their own "returns".

Coporate social responsibility? That's about as contradictory as "sustainable development" and "honest politician".

There is no need for an amphiteatre. As you all well know anything built will be left to rot. We have enough instances happening in our midsts. Just keep the park as it is and there is also no need for a high end condominium there as well. It is all a bull story to justify their wanting to build a condominium there.

I thought there is one amphiteatre already right in the park? But it's never been used before I guess. There are so many sections on the park especially near the go-kart track, there are some building stuctures but I don't know what they are used for. Skateboarding?

Theres is too much development in SJ/USJ that has caused so much pollution and I find jogging and walking in the open very detrimental to my health and sheer impossible..
To much of pollution from cars, factories and road and highway construction has made the air very hazardous for any form of outdoor exercise..so for me they can do want they want. Its not going to make any difference..i will rather do my exercises in some enclosed enviroment.

The authorities should first address the state of pollution in our town first its dreadful!!! and this wont be easy its too late.

That so called park near the roundabout is another example of waste n neglect. It was built with much fanfare but without thought as to who would want to use it as it was next to a main road with endless traffic and pollution. it is in a shameful condition and now they want to build an amphiteatre. for what?

Be there & be counted...unless of course, usj pple see it as a SJ problem only.

I am surprised to read that only folks from SS12 - SS19 are to be invited for this public hearing. I am very certain there are many many USJ folks who are also very passionate abt the future of Taman Subang Ria and will be keen to attend the hearing to voice our support for its preservation as a green lung sans "hijacked developments"! Hopefully the good ADUN SJ will speak up for the inclusion of USJ residents' participation. Will follow up directly.

Sime-UEP's proposed development for Subang Ria Park is displayed at MPSJ ground floor (foyer outside the Auditorium) for public viewing and objection effective 21 May 2007 to 18 June 2007. Details of the project proposal are displayed and forms are available for your views and objections. Property owners from SS12 to SS19 are entitled to forward your views and objections.

The Notice was in the Papers on 21st May 2007 ... NST, STAR and Berita Harian ... classified section.

The Public Hearing has been scheduled for 15th July 2007 (Sunday) at 2.30pm at the Ballroom of Holiday Villa.

If I may add, property owners from SS12-SS19 are requested to go to MPSJ Building (USJ 5), get a form and fill in your objections ... todate, as Theresa reports, there have only been SEVEN (7) "objections" lodged ... by far a most miserably low statistic!

So, don't delay, go file your objections asap ... closing date is June 18, 2007.

The Subang Ria park is highly polutted with traffic fumes from the Federal highway. Suggest you go to Bukit kiara jogging path. At least you can see jungle on both sides and with guards too. People come from as far as Taman Desa and Cheras to walk and jog in Bukit kiara. They cannot be wrong.

Will the objection form be made available during the public hearing? or can it be downloaded from MPSJ website?

I don't read the Classified Section, so did not know about the Notice of proposed development.

As for the invitation for residents from SS12-SS19, will this be in the papers (hidden in some classifieds) or a letter from MPSJ? I wondered how many are aware of this other then those who read this forum.

Hopefully,this public session is NOT another session of....opps! development is already planned & ongoing. So, it aint' going to stop now even if you folks out there are unhappy!!!

LA21 - how is it really practiced here??? or is it just for 'show' only? I remembered that the USJ3ABCD residents had once participated in such LA21 session before & guess what - we were eventually forced to accept what has already been planned! Residents real concerns on safety, security & traffic were totally ignored! Even our children's lives are NOT spared!!!

Thousands of petition signatures, public protest in the presence of the press, articles written in the newspapers, pictures of real concerns & numerous meetings & presentations to MPSJ hv absolutely "NO" effect to their already "planned" development!!!

Would really LOVE to see what would eventually happen to Subang Ria park. However, Dato Lee mentioned in the Star that folks not staying around the area CANNOT voice their grouses even tho' others can attend. How did this decision came about??? Pls show us the relevant law that 'others' cannot object!

The lake is one of the icons of Subang Jaya.

Many families grow up here, and many families are still growing up. Young, elderly, working people all go to the lake - their only green space for their recreation. This is one of the social obligations of the developer for selling their immense property called Subang Jaya and USJ.

There are other lakes in PJ and they are public area (section 20, tmn jaya)

No amphitheatre please - they are just white elephants which decay into unkempt concrete mess which keeps the day heat and make the place hot.

There are already so many apartment coming up along Kewajipan so we do not need any more. Of course Sime UEP want to make money too and seeing the development they want to maximise their land bank.

It is a shame also that after so long (30 years) they still have not build toilets at the lake for convenience. But I hesistate here to urge the building of toilets as I am afraid there will be no maintainence and the toilet will either be damaged,no doors, and 100% will stink

Interestingly, politicians, certain civil servants and developers had their own plans which was frustrated by a group of us since the late 90's.

Faced by us and a supportive press - they backed off then only now to emerge after their private discussions with interestingly several key operatives and allies!
In the early 70's I used to live with my uncle in the 'horse shoe houses' just along the present private hospital there.
I remember before we bought the property there, we were attracted to it based on the representations in advertisements and brochures of the lake and greenary.
It was all part of the scheme as I remember.
So if these people have plans good - we too have plans and we are ready, more organized than before and if Sime Darby boys want a fight we wil give them and others who back them one to preserve what in our mind rightly belongs to the people - Subang Ria Park!
MPSJ must decide where they are sitting on this one - they cannot 'hunt with the hounds and run with the hares' as they have many times before and times have indeed changed so has the political, social and environmental landscape/pressures facing us.
The meeting must be open to all people and the civil society! Period! ;)

And why was it not maintained - it is all part of the great plan of the men in grey suits/batiks who wanted to leave it be to 'rot away' and attract negative publicity so that at the right time - yes the right time they can emerge and put their plan into action saying that they are doing us all a service with this "redevelopment" and "upgrading" which indeed is a joke!

Subang Ria must be upgraded and preserved as a green lung and recreational venue for the public - period! Enough construction in that area already - period!The "owners?" can have plans but if the government steps in, in response to people pressure sorry lah the boys in grey suits need to wait for another decade! :D

Out of curiousity, can we, as a group, sue the developer for taking away land for the current and future development? I thought I read somewhere that a High Court judge commented that we have the right to the lakes, parks and playgrounds as it was considered part of the infrastructure and attractions which the residents have paid for.

If the answer is Yes, somebody should rope in 100 residents to share cost and sue the developer. Or perhaps CASSA can go for this landmark case on the residents' behalf.

After several battles, I sincerely thought common sense will prevail but I was wrong. They just paused as they always do!

But, we are ready now.

As I said - the team is ready - Press @both local and foreign, bloggers @both local and foreign, the local civil society, NGOs and CASSA's team of Lawyers/environmentalist/professionals have been already notified.

The last time @1997 to 2001 season - several senior politicians urged us (CASSA) to give them face and that they will resolve the matter with the state government taking over Subang Ria and gazetting it!

In fact, we had planned/organized a high powered program where then, the first lady was to grace the occasion and during that occasion a former MB to make a statement - we were waiting for that would entrench our wishes - period!

We called it off to save certain "political faces" to allow them - putting it in their own words - "allow them to work within and bring about the same result!"

But nothing happened since! :rolleyes:

They were waiting for the right timing?

But never mind - we are all still here and certainly better prepared this time! I will also speak to Dato Lee Hwa Beng - I know from my last conversation with him that he is strongly on our side to preserve Subang Ria! I will speak to him too!

You have my support too if CASSA sues them. Take them to court. Even if it takes years, at least, a court injunction will stop all work in the meantime and let the residents enjoy the park.

Subang Ria can rival the KLCC park already now, because the KLCC park is no more. It's disappeared. Gobbled up by construction.

first of all from what i understand, the park is private land. so MPSJ is using this as an excuse that they cannot gazzete the land as a public park.
HOWEVER, that piece of land was mentioned in the brochures and catalogues as a public park when we purchased our houses from the developer. isn't this a case of misleading the buyers?
i find it extremely insulting when the developer mentioned that they cannot develop the park for free. they said it must come together with the profit generating development. hence, i think it is their game plan that they left the park to rot for so long. shouldn't they now be sued for not maintaining the park - didnt they sell houses in subang jaya with the promise of a park?

and the amphitheatre? of course it is going to rot. it is part of the game plan because a few years from now, the park will be in a new state of deterioration. then they have another excuse to further "develop" the land.

You cannot withdraw a representation that was used to induce buyers in the fist place. Remember at the time of the first construction - this area was not the first choice and not hot but with the media and other forms of hype used - the garden city approach, park, lakes, playgrounds, new designs the horse shoe houses, hospital etc etc we were all drawn in!

Now decades after that event - there is a 'grand plan' to turn the land adjacent to the federal highway into a Manhattan Style skyline and it has already started - check the area opposide Subang Parade etc.

Even open spaces and other green lungs are been targetted!

They think the original owners are no longer around. That we do not have the brochures and other documentations - they are dead wrong! ;)

We must preserve Subang Ria at any costs!

My advice to the men in grey suits in their high corporate towers and their friends in policy circles - leave this area alone! You have already made your milllions - Enough!

My advice - hand this piece of land to /state government/MPSJ to be gazzetted into a park - an act that has been long overdue!

We can call it - 'Subang Ria - Kak Endon' in honor of the PM's late wife! ;)

Subang Ria Park is just not a 'Subang Jaya issue' any longer it involves the whole and national question of safeguarding our open spaces, lakes, gardens and green lungs!

It involves the issue of representation by developers in brochures!

It involves the duties of the local council to make certain that titles to open spaces and gren lungs to be collected within a time frame work and failure showing an ommission in public duty!

As far as the protest notes are concerned - Yes - I am certain that the 'powers that be' will not wait for anyone - they are in a hurry!

Are the plans ready?

Of course - there are many versions whether this is just another acadamic exercise and certain parties all playing their "dutiful" role in 'outright pretence'?

But we will see!

Our target is 1 Million.

Several NGO's from other states are also doing their bit to download and collect signatures which would be put in a proper dossier with all the background stories, TV & paper clips to be handed over to the nation's leadership!

Let us manage this collectively and once and for all settle this matter in Subang Jaya and as a precedent elsewhere - in the interest of the housebuyers and the community! :)

We will work together with the SJ Alert and RA groups to collect the forms later.

We will also set up a booth in several shopping centers in and around Subang Jaya soon too.

Err buddies...in one of the casual community meetings recently...Orchi was told that...the proposed development...would occupy ONLY 30% of the existing Subang Ria park areas.

Wow...from the posted pictures of the development plans...it sure does NOT look like it is any where near to 30%.

It is MORE like 60% of the total park area...!!!
