Hi ppl! :D

Me kinda grew up in Subang/ USJ and i am really fond of staying here, paticularly USJ, where i spent most of my growing up years in. :) Am really proud of it... my passion is for SJ/ USJ. :D

When mentioned Summit, USJ, most people will shun it  and some may think it's a sore eye... esp. when some equates it with Sg. Wang of Selangor... What do you think?

What do you think are the improvements needed for this 7 yrs old mall? Heard that they are doing some refurbishments here and there, like upgrading the toilets... improving the lightings of the carpark.. which i personally think it's bringter. and of course... hehehe... Fajar moving out... also heard they may bring in Metrojaya... and Cold Storage.... :D I think it's kinda cool to have it there.. then i don't have to drive all the way to Sect. 14... :p

More al-fresco concepts at the outdoor carpark area? Like what they are doing with Pyramid? I think i would rate it as a family mall.. very community based compared to the other malls around.. with loads of charity events.... what say you? do you think they are lacking in children development centres? ummm... prob more children clothing... i think Parade did fairly well in promoting it as a family mall... :D I like the booths along the Lower floors... can get quite a good bargain...

So! What do you guys think of Summit? :o

My 2sentences worth:
1. Summit tenant mix is like Petaling Street; imitation products, el-cheapo china stuff, vcd stalls etc. If I want these stuff, I will head for the 'originals' at petaling street. Methink, the complex owner/mgmnt got their target audeince all wrong. This is Subang jaya where a high concentration of residents are in mid-class,read as higher disposable income group (not necessarily spendthrift, but that anuther story :p

Check out subang parade and see the crowd..not many shoppers and with the exception of the supermart, most of the tenants have been there for donkey years...whats that say? ;)

2. the ingress is wrongly placed. It is too cumbersome a place to go. But thats a planner issue :D

Yang amat Bershopping lato tupai

I think they should be wiser in choosing the tenants. Maybe some brands and do without the stuffs you can get off pasar malam. Those kind things, you won't be buying in Subang Jaya.

I think the mall is badly designed too. There are some parts that are hidden unless you walk near there. I think the lowest floor is a bit too crowded as well. Sungei Wang is actually doing better. At least, they get the crowd there.

and I agree with tupai. The location is bad.

I like their DVD stalls too!

But don't like their pc software stalls. Charged RM8 for a piece when one can get them for RM5 in Sg Wang or Low Yat or even SS13's pasar malam!

In fact Summit has improved a lot in its retail offerings. When it was first opened, the choices of shops were very unappealing. Nowadays, I can spend my whole Sun noon loitering in Summit - shopping, browsing books in MPH or Popular, shopping, eating. Pity that Fajar is moving out coz I enjoy shopping at its supermarket. Lotsa good buy!

They need to upgrade their lifts. Poorly maintained and run down. Also the staircase needs to be cleaned up. Dirty and smelly.

Same here. I usually go to the cinema here. Parking is no hassle. Movies also much cheaper for me here during weekdays. 50% for senior citizens lah! And there is a very good food outlet just next to the cinema. The one closest is very good Malaysian outlet and very reasonable. Run by a family. We normally chat with Michael. The curry there is fresh and good. Sooo much cheaper than eating in Pyramid.

summit has definitely improved compare with 6 years back .. that's why their rental also start increasing ... regarding asking the management to be wiser in choosing tenant, i think they try to but i wonder whether they can achieve that without owning the shops. I dun mind the el-cheapo stuff, bcos if i want a branded stuff I know where should i shop.
Other improvement I would like to see there is a bigger MPH, or better still bring in Borders and also establish an IT corner like those in sg wang or pyramid  .

Agree with Patrick that their lift need upgrade and staircase needs to be cleaned up.

toilet - really need to improve or make it free, subang parade's toilet is free, and it is A LOT cleaner than summit's.
escalaters and lifts - shaking my head, sometimes the lift can stop at certain level for no reason.
car park - RM1 flat rate perhaps?
tenants - I think it is getting better. Would like to see bigger MPH. :)
air-con - It's usually very cold at certain spot and very hot at another spot, there was once I almost pengsan in popular bookstore.

Correct me if I am wrong, Summit is different from Subang Parade. Summit has very little control over the tenants because they sold the lots not rented out like Subang Parade. Therefore if the DVD seller bought the lot they will sell DVDs there instead of selling Bonia shoes. Same thing goes to Berjaya Time Square, they sold lots instead of rented out, and it has also become a high-class Petaling Street. Check out the difference between higher-end and lower-end shopping malls, you will know which one's on rental which is not.

Thanks Datin
Thats explains why The Summit looks like some back lane shopping mall.

Err...YAB lato to be precise...:D

Err...heard from the grapevine that a neighbouring giant may take up the existing supermarket space in the Summit mall...

Not surprised. That neighbourhood giant seems to have gobbled up most of the supermarkets in the valley

.

The parking is already at a flat rate of Rm1 for weekdays and Rm2 for weekends and hols. That is reasonable compared to Subang Parade and the stupid car park at Taipan, which is unreasonably expensive.

maybe weekends and public holidays also make it RM1?
Like one utama, so much better than summit, only collection RM1 throughout.
(well, I heard that hourly rate will apply at the new wing starting on 15/nov though, well, even so, for years since one utama exists, they have been collecting RM1)

Actually Summit is not as run down as some believe. Although i do agree they need more credible tenants but my favorites so far are

GSC Summit
THX, do i need to say more. Marge Simpson could be sitting in front of me and it wouldn't block my view.

San Francisco Coffee
I swear the staff over there are friendlier than other outlets. American breakfast is reasonably price, nice place to hang out on a saturday morning.

Penang Assam House
For the budget savvy student, this is the place to eat. No frills, fast service and big serving.

Fitness First
Ah yes, convenience for the work-out freaks. Its nice to have 2 in the area.

Popular
Only when they have that annual warehouse/clearance thing going on.

Pirated Games CD/DVD
Unlike movies, picking up a new game CD/DVD requires time i.e. going through pc requirements/compatibilities etc. So having a nearby place is not a bad deal, you can also take it back for exchange in case the cd is faulty. Now imagine driving to sungei wang for just that....eeek.

Its not that bad... for those staying around here
A place you can do most of things, from bowling, archery, movies, books and schools books, coffee, dvds and occasional events. Shopping ? Anyway said shopping ?
Though they should tidy up and brighten up the place, especiaaly the dim dim corners and the card park.

Agree with kensu. The place needs to be spruced up a little. Somehow it lacks some class due to that. Location is quite good, with entry and exits from the front and back. Other than that its got things most other places do.

i hope Giant take up the fajar space...better than any metrojaya :)..no need to go carefour keke...

if i not mistaken , the Pc software and game software in summit is the last one still open . Ss15 subang square and pyramid pc software and game software closed already..due to the high monsoon season outside..:(

Maybe they mushroom back after the monsoon season..

I'm ok with Summit...don't mind going over just to walk around while getting my car washed at Cars International..San Francisco Coffee is a nice place for food and to meet up with friends..GSC is ok..movies are up to date...
close to home..no complaints.

Hey, I work in CARs International. How do you find our service in Summit USJ? Actually, I'm incharged of the KL branches, but it's good to hear feedback about other branches as well.

Hey PianoMan...your guys are always very friendly to me...:) ...towards others I don't know huh but I'm sure they're ok.. well, they're quite efficient too..not too long a wait cos I normally get my car washed on weekdays..I'm a satisfied customer, that's the reason why I'm a regular ever so often..like once a week the least. :)

Err no problem Orchi..if I ever bump into you..the old man with the old briefcase .. doing nothin' but wiping old watches..sorry, old broken watches, I'd walk up to you and we could have a cuppa coffee together...like an old couple...we could share 'teeth' too if ya don't mind..share a plate of fettucini..and maybe after that, we could walk over to Piano Station..and i could play you a romantic love song on the piano..:) Deal?

okie okie..I was just kidding.. :)

I would only like to ask the management to run maintenance just ONCE on the lift near KFC. Those who take that lift regularly should know what is wrong with it.

A side note here..Piano Station in Summit has a variety of secondhand pianos but I feel the environment is a bit too clamorous for 'real' tone testing..unless if you could go very early before the crowd flow or very much later..after 10pm perhaps..just a suggestion if any of you are seriously considering purchasing any of their pianos..

summit is ok with me ..normally i go there for movies and pooling...anyway,the worst thing bout summit is definitely the lifts..it seems to take ages for it to reach the basement and when it reaches, its pack 2 the brim...then have to wait again..that day juz went into a lift with no lights at all..can u imagine that? pure darkness..another thing they have to spruce up is the darn staircases, mann its so dirty even a beggar wouldnt wan 2 stay there... thatz about all frm me.. :D :D

Hey Orchi, How come I never bump into you either? Strange!!! I go there quite often too. Movies, computer shop, hair cut and I too like to hang around the piano. Strange that I should do that when I already have one at home. Ah well, maybe like they say the grass is always greener on the other side huh? ;-)

Err...dear Pat:)...that could be the problem...for one...Orchi doesn't go there for movies...secondly the last computer shop Orchi visited...was way back in 1985 or 86 in Imbi Plaza...:p

Err...the third one is obvious...Orchi doesn't need to visit a hairdresser to pay for a haircut...Orchi gets them for free...outside of the Summit...:p

Ahem...as for pianos...you could hang around there more often...n perhaps ya might catch a glimpse of Orchi there...

Err...however...should you decide to drop into the particular watchshop selling them old vintage n antique watches on weekends...ahem...ya might find Orchi there easier...:)

BTW...talk about the valet carpark service right in front of the Summit...err...used to be...'enforced' for those parking bays which are partitioned n painted in White lines...but now one might experience quite often...the valet parking service boys...would be 'preying' on folks who would park their vehicles on them parking bays which are partitioned in Yellow lines too...asking the folks to payup for rm6 or so per vehicle parking entry...

But next time anyone experiences being approached n asked to pay the 'hijack' sum again...ya can use your best hand gesture...n tell the valet parking boys to shove it...n stick to collecting valet parking charges...only on them parking bays that are partitioned in White lines...
