A Banana question

What is the punishment when a forumer is gifted with a banana..he/she allowed to continue to posts or given time out to stop posting for a period.
I still see ppl still posting in spite of receiving the banana :confused: Kwchang, some clarifications on this matter please.

- Skidding off the thread?
- Fried by the spectators? (pisang goreng)
- Acting suspiciously in sync with another poster? (like B1, B2)
- Posting in pyamas? (nobody asks what I'm wearing or not wearing when I'm posting)
- Being caught singing 'Yes Sir we have no bananas' at a certain roadside stall?

Ski, perhaps you took a vacation when we introduced bananas on the Forum. Thanks for asking and I shall oblige with my reasons for choosing this fruit plus what happens to the consumer of this galant fruit. Let me post this while you wait for the complete story.... ;)

In the past when we started moderating the forum, we needed to issue warnings. Warnings were issued live on the forum besides the less painful message by PM (where the warning is not public). We need to warn in public to inform the other members of the offence as well as to educate others what not to do.

How do we warn? We issued Yellow cards just like in soccer matches. Administrators had the facility to add the word "yellow card" under the names of the member when they post, so they carry the yellow card until the sentence is over. The sentence can be very short or maybe over a few days to a few weeks (when I forget to remove the shackles ;) ).

Since it was only a warning, none of the member's privileges are removed. Hence they can still send emails, send messages (PM) and post to the Forum like before. The only disadvantage to them (besides the publicly visible shackles), the offender can be banned if he/she misbehaves the second time while yellow carded. A ban will be equivalent to a red card. In the banned state, all privileges are removed and the offender is sent to Coventry for a period of time unless it is a permanent ban. With our new forum engine, we can ban for fixed periods of time and it will be automatically reinstated by the computer (hence no fear of me forgetting to unlock the shackles).

At one stage I was getting the feeling that "yellow card" sounded too clinical and equates to a strict reprimand. I was then looking for a softer approach but with the same effects. At around that time, someone posted a thread about the goodness of bananas (for health). As if to ensure I did not miss it, Orchi started to post on a thread and mentioned the Banana currency we had during the Japanese occupation in Malaya. Apparently such banana notes are now very valuable although at the end of WWII, anyone who had stashed away the banana notes were only holding pieces of paper which even the newspaper recycler refused to touch! Like a message from above, my prayers were answered.

The Banana (yellow fruit) became my Yellow Card. Hence I'd hang a banana under the names of those who strayed and bent our rules. Other members started to say that these people were sent to the banana plantation for hard labour. When someone did get a red card finally, I gave him a fried banana (pisang goreng). I was amazed how nicely everything fell into place.

I hope this explains the way we handle crisis over here. If anyone of you ever see a banan being issued in other Forums, do let us know - I'd like to see how far this has caught on. ;) :p :cool:
