Hello fellow forumers.

I don't know if this is right so feel free to kick me in the butt if it's wrong to campaign here.

I’ve been nominated for the AYA Dream Malaysia Awards 2005. The award comes with a scholarship and I wish to resume studies. Please vote for me! http://awards.aya.org.my/cast.php

What is the AYA Dream Malaysia Award?

The AYA Dream Malaysia Awards is about our future - and the people who are farsighted enough to invest in it. The Awards is in line with AYA’s objective of building tomorrow’s leaders today and to create a better and brighter future for Malaysia by inspiring, inciting and inculcating responsible attitudes and actions especially – but not exclusively - in the hearts and minds of our youths.

This Awards serves as an encouragement to emerging individuals and responsible institutions to persevere in their dreams of improving the quality of life for themselves and for those around them in spite of the difficulties and obstacles they encounter.

Through “The Most Outstanding Youth of the Year” Award, we seek to give due recognition to young individuals whom have overcome and may still be overcoming obstacles in their lives in order to be where they are today. These ordinary individuals with extraordinary spirits need not be rich or famous but their attitude towards life coupled with their sacrificial contributions has made a real impact among their family and friends. We want their stories to tell the world that though life may not always turn out the way we expect, there is always hope.

Life College is sponsoring a scholarship worth RM 16000 - RM 24000 to the winner of The Most Outstanding Youth of The Year.

I believe that this award will further raise awareness of Neurofibromatosis, and I really look forward to continue my studies. If you think that I deserve this award, please vote for me! here (http://awards.aya.org.my/cast.php)

I went through the write-ups of all the nominees for this award. Frankly, I think all of you deserve one award or another as everyone was and is an inspiration to the youths of this land.

For this particular award however, I believe you will win with some competition coming from John Ling and the gal with 8 siblings. If this contest is wholly about one's fight against great odds to better one's life, and to set an icon for others to emulate, you are a league above the rest.
In Fact, as far as I am concerned, you are already my Winner.

The only problem standing in your way is voting in cyberspace...don't quite trust it yet. Btw, I can't scroll your write-up...

ADMINISTRATION, May I suggest this tread be moved up and pinned at top 3 treads...a must click on type thing, so that we have more forumers participating on this vote which may otherwise be lost to pg 3 or 4.

May The Good Lord Bless you Yvonne, and the rest of the nominees.

Hey everyone. Thank you SO MUCH for your support and kind words. I'm truly touched. I don't post very often here but yet, I receive so much support and concern from you guys.

penangkia, as promised in public over here (http://www.johnling.net), if John wins, he'll give me the scholarship. And as a good friend, I doubt he will forsake my cause, either.

We really don't want this to turn out as a popularity contest, but the outcome solely depend on votes, unfortunately. I agree with you that the rest deserves the award too, because everyone strived for bettermen in their very own ways. Oh well, I'll just have to focus my mind on how much more I can do with the award, the extra awareness on Neurofibromatosis, and the chance to pursue higher studies.

Hmmm... so being humble isn't always a good thing. We really have to go all out in order to make a difference. Maybe the voting system is to encourage us to be proactive.

Thanks again for everyone's support!

I don't really understand this part re above. Please kindly explain?

Well, I'm brought up in a chinese family, and the elder generation always taught me to be humble. When you're offered something- reject, because it's a part of humility. Even in the newspaper, we sometimes see people declining awards. But in actual fact, there is a lot of positive thing that can be done with an award like that. They'll do more good when they receive the award.

Haha! Sorry to confuse you, Penangkia. When I was typing out that previous entry, I was actually thinking aloud. When you were telling me how worthy I am for the award, how the forum can help me with the votes, and all that... at once, I got reminded of the chinese value of humility. Why go all out just to get an award? Shouldn't we be humble? But then, we might not be able to make any difference if we choose to remain humble all the time. What do you think?

The final decision for The Most Outstanding Youth of the Year would be based on votes (either online or by sms). All votes must be submitted on or before 7th November 2005 (1pm). • The Award is considered based on the facts given or obtained of an outstanding spirit (attitude) and not on the abilities for sports, skills or schooling (unless these are the by-products).
• The judges’ decision is final and no objections will be entertained.

Please read above and be mindful about the closing date. Now you can click below to vote for Yvonne Foong. I just did that.

You got my vote, Yvonne!

Why go all out just to get an award?
About getting the award, of course, it depends on your personal reasons. So people want fame, some want the scholarship, yada yada yada. Only you yourself would know what you want from getting the award.

Shouldn't we be humble? But then, we might not be able to make any difference if we choose to remain humble all the time. What do you think?

From what I see, a lot of people seem to think that humility and self-confidence can't co-exist together. But why not? Being humble doesn't mean that I have to go "I'm ****ty at everything because I'm humble and therefore I can't step up to the plate and face resposibility". That's extreme.

Being humble means that you know that for all your strengths, you know that there's always someone better out there and that while you SHOULD be proud of what you have, you SHOULDN'T be a know-it-all.

It's kinda ironic that the truly humble people out there really wouldn't never admit to being humble. That's like standing up on a podium and shouting to everyone "I'm the most humble guy here!".

<b>MKEL</b> Thank for voting!

<b>choon1980</b> Thanks for voting. As for me, I would like to return to studies. But most importantly, my attempt to spread awareness of NF and to advocate some social development issues, would be taken to the next stage. Like currently, I'm making plans to advocate the importance of accessible toilets for the disabled.

Oh! You struck a chord there. Being humble means not to boast? Hmmm...

Good news everyone! I won! Thank you all for supporting me! I am SO happy!!

For your info, the award comes with a scholarship by Life college and 2 airtickets to anywhere in Peninsular Malaysia for 2 person. Yay! Finally, a self-earned holiday escapade!

Okay, some people might say, "why not save the money for surgery". But look, it's not going to cost a bomb to have fun locally, and I need to give myself a break too, right? hehe...

The dinner was altogether exhilarating yet exhausting. I'll write more when I have the photographs with me. You might wanna keep an eye on my blog (http://www.yvonnefoong.com) for updates too.

Thanks again!!

Congrats Yvonne. I'm glad for you ..... :)

I read about the event in the Saturday NST which has a good write up on Yvonne Foong and her dream and even prepared an SMS to be sent to her on Sunday night at 11.30pm to enquire who is the winner. But unfortunately, I never get to send it as I fell asleep.

Good for you Yvonne. I find that the other two contestants are never near you and therefore I am very confident that you will win hands down but with many clicks of the mouse by all of us at usj.com.my as we are all behind you. You deserve to win that scholarship and yes, why not pampered yourself with the tickets that came as a prize.

14-11-2005, 01:02 PM
Congrats Yvonne!! :)

14-11-2005, 01:31 PM
I saw the photographs in today's NST! You were looking very beautiful..Congratulations to you, dear!
