Has anyone noticed that censorship on ASTRO is getting intolerable nowadays? It is so, so bad. Everything is cut. Even words like ass and God get slashed. Entire scenes are removed! What's going on? Has there been some directive from the govt on this?

I am so sick and tired of the puritanism the people in power of this country always exhibit. It is bad enough that free-to-air terrestrial television stations are subject to indiscriminate censorship, but i expect some leeway as a paying customer of ASTRO...

I have to sympathize with your frustration but this is Bolehland!.We are the mercy of vendors like these that may not return satisfactory value for the fee. I fully agree with your view of somewhat illogical & indiscriminate censorship to the point of the program being un-enjoyable.
Why not give them a call..speak your frustration to someone senior there..no harm ya?..most he/she could do is slam down the phone..

OT, I've vented my dissatisfaction a number of times to these establishments and they DID respond by a phone call and conversation to resolve the issue at hand.
examples..
1. Alliance Bank (via email) over defective ATM machine and lousy service at branch
2. Nestle (via email) sudden non availability of a product item
3. Friskies cat food (via email) poor product quality (manufactured in Thailand rather than Aussie.)

& NOPE!..they didn't bribe or give me any freebies thereafter..

This is the reason why DVD piracy will remain unstoppable...

Censorship at Astro is even worse than 8TV. I watch Desperate Housewives both on 8TV and Astro. The episodes on 8TV is one week ahead. I can really see the difference, as Aimless said, on Astro, there has been instances where whole scenes are cut.
Astro was previously more 'lenient', but there was some hoo-haa about Astro being too lenient (which I think is nonsense) and since then its been snip snip snip.

I am seriously considering cancelling Astro if the censoring continues like this. Getting really stupid when the story/movie loses it's meaning. Saw Pat Adams yesterday on Astro ( have seen it before on DVD ) and they cut out the last scene where he exposed a little of his backside after receiving his degree. Outrageous maybe, but nothing vulgar or obscene in the context of the story and of the character of Pat Adams. And this was suppose to be a true story.

Will they censor the crucifixion of Christ if they ever show the movie The Passion Of the Christ on Astro because it is gruesome, cruel, ugly, violent and inhumane? What then will be the purpose of this movie which is also a well known story of Jesus???

I say, we should all protest strongly to Astro and the Ministry for again behaving like self appointed moral guardians which we all despise.

Pas has again tried to be holier than thou by imposing rules on live performances. Let hope their opposite image in umno will not resort to distorted measures to prove they are on even higher moral grounds.

Most parent they find Channel 71 and 72 most vulgar with provocating scenes, nudity and lyrics....and these are the shows teenagers love to watch. So if the authorities are snipping on lewd language how about these musical videos and not forgetting the Bollywood videos too, you know what I mean!!! psst.. I have no qualms about these programmes, no children in my house. eh eh!!
