Hello there!

I'm a patient of Neurofibromatosis and I wish to sell t-shirts to fund my surgeries. Does anyone know any good and reputable t-shirt printer/suppliers in Malaysia?

I hope to get a low price because this is considered a charitable cause. Best if the supplier is willing to offer a low minimum print, so I can have the shirt in a few different sizes.

Please let me know if you have any leads. Thank you!

ank.. there was earlier thread couple of mths ago on sourcing T-shirt printers.. I couldn't find it, hope it wasn't hijacked to the Sahara...but in this case it would be trying to find a supplier whom someone here have close connexion with if its going be a fund raiser.

My neighbor Ben Ong does premium Tshirts (prints and stitch embroidery) for golf clubs and big brand names. But I think you can get the Tshirts at cost or without the brand/logo.

Mebbe you wanna give him a call at this number. 012-3046448.

Another place you can source Tshirts would be at Jalan Kenanga. (Near San Peng Flats. KL) The place is full of wholesalers and you can also get Tshirts as low as RM7 for basic/plain color - collared Tshirts.

Hello everyone, thank you for the feedback.

<b>Orchi</b> I wrote about my illness over here http://www.yvonnefoong.com/neurofibromatosis/

<b>USJ27Resident</b> Thanks for the contact. Seems like t-shirts are pretty cheap. It's the printing that is costly.

More feedbacks are very welcomed. I'm still looking forward to the good work of a graphics designer.

Hi yvonne... may I also suggest the freelance designers at Pertama Complex or Central Market... they do pretty good art works...

then again... what do you actually want/need...

Artwork and the cost of printing can be pretty expensive because it involves either stencils/program blocks for embroidery works and then if it is silkscreens - it would be cheaper...

Another alternative would be printwork... meaning using t-shirt transfer paper..8½" x 11" Inkjet Hot/Cold Peel T-Shirt transfer paper For use on white or light backgrounds! Iron on to T-shirt, mouse pad, coaster, book bag and a whole lot more using an ordinary household iron.Hot peel leaves a satin finish & cold peel leaves a high gloss finish. It can cost between RM 3.50 - RM 4.50 per piece depending on brand make and quantity. They also make the transfer paper for dark/black tshirts too, but that is pretty expensive. ....

Check out this site.... t shirt designs (http://www.proworldinc.com/index.asp)

Cheers...

Err... Yvonne... if you want... I have a Internal CD Burner... which I do not use. If you have a PC without one... I will GIVE it to you... it's plug n play... so you can burn your designs onto CDs and can pass on to your printers/suppliers... Would be easier for you with CDs than hard copies...

Lemme know...

I already have some people designing the logo for free, so let's skip over to the t-shirt aspect. The iron print sounds interesting. It's not in fashion anympre but that doesn't matter. The quality is not very good though, it comes off by the heat of the iron. I'm not sure about this, will have to survey around to see what people prefer. Then again, its not the quality of the t-shirt, its the fact that the money goes to help me that matters.

I want the T-shirt to be black, and has a pink heart on it. I also want an inspirational quote on either side. Something like "Live for others" or "Love one, Love all" or... something like that sort.

I tiold my friend to give Mr. Ong a call and she will get back to me with the details ASAP. I'm deaf you see, so I have to rely on my friends to do the communication work.

But when you talk about the iron-on thing, do you mean that we need to get our own shirts at wholesalers, then order the prints, and do the job ourselves? But I remember the iron-on machine is a very big chunk and should be expensive.

On the other hand, if it's silkscreens, the manufacturer will handle everything?

Hmmm... we'll see how the maths work for both.

Hey, and you know what? a CD burner is just exactly what I need. I've always wanted to get one, but more important needs tend to come along all the time.

I have been to PD & Cameron Highlands recently.

I wonder how those folks over there manage to be able to price those souvenir T-shirts sold over there at such lowly prices of RM5 & RM8 respectively.

This is something new to me and I think a number of you share my thought as well. Now that Yvonne is thinking of doing something to raise funds for her treatment and such, can I suggest that the good people of this forum do our bit too to help our friend.

I start the ball rolling by suggesting a car wash drive. I'm sorry if it sounds shallow, guys. It would also allow more and more people to know about this disease and allow USJ/SJ residents to do their bit for a needy 'neighbour'.

Any other thoughts are most welcome.

Don't mean to hijack the thread. Just something that crossed the mind.

<b>Pak Kadok</b> I wonder. Or maybe the manufacturer is trying to dispose them, so they don't mind loosing money instead of sending the shirts to the dumps. I don't know... Just a wild guess.

<b>lors</b> thank you! any form of help is greatly appreciated. help spread awareness about NF as well.

Having gone to Yvonne Foong website, I would like to expand on what our lord has proposed which I hope would resolve the problem that Yvonne is saddled with. Yvonne is a living example of this illness called Neurofibromatosis. She has been undergoing surgeries every year since she was first diagnosed. Not only did it bring her a lot of pain, it also introduced her new perspectives about life. It gave her the opportunities to see the world and meet people from different cultures.

I like the idea of a community car wash which we can organise for a good cause and at the same time brings the community closer together and have fun. Since Yvonne is very concerned about cost, let us as usj.com.my organise this car wash to raise capital to print 1,000 T shirts for a start. We can then outsource to any supplier who can supply good quality Tshirts and print them at a cost of not more than RM 10.00. We will then price it at RM 25 and the buyer can choose to pay more if he or she likes the design, is comfortable with it and have a nice thought that the money is going for a good cause. The profit margin will be even greater if we can get a corporate sponsor to chip in and the sponsor will get the privilege to place his company logo on the Tshirt but without any slogan as we do not want anything else printed on it except the design as seen above that was so chosen by Yvonne.

I like using the Tshirt to raise fund for the medical expenses for Yvonne as we can also use this Tshirt to create a awareness of this illness called Neurofibromatosis. For all the negativity that Yvonne has to go through because of Neurofibromatosis, she does not wish it will be the same for others. Hence, this Tshirt I hope will create the awareness of Neurofibromatosis in hope that more people will know about it.

I invite the rest of the community to put forth their two sens worth of thoughts how this commnuity can rally to help her to achieve what she set out to do.

Your ideas needed for talkshow
Yvonne Foong blogged in Projects and this is what she appeals

Dearest readers, I’ve just received an invitation from NTV7 for an appearance this coming 14th September on “The Breakfast Show”. Because of my deafness, the host will talk to me by pen and paper while I will speak aloud in reply. This is a golden opportunity for me to reach out to those who did not come across last week’s article in TheStar newspaper.

I will be talking on topics pertaining to my experiences with Neurofibromatosis for 20 minutes. I’m free to talk about anything regarding NF, but what matters to me may not be a concern to people in general. So dear readers, please give me some suggestions on topics that you would like to hear from me. TV viewers are usually clueless about NF so I don’t think its a problem to sound simple. So friends, give me your shot!

Won't make us any richer or poorer to do so.

Fingers crossed now :) ... hopefully something good news comes from this...

Yvonne. I will be back on the 14th.. 15th I leave for Jakarta (day trip) and 16th I am heading for Seoul, back on the 18th. what about a charity sales alongside with the car wash? we could sell food, 2nd hand clothes, 2nd hand furnitures, etc ...

lord
13-09-2005, 09:51 AM
good idea there, blackgammon. I think it will be a good community do for all of us. If we can gather to kick the gov's ass for a police station, I'm sure more will come to help another human in 'pain'.

To donate money is easy. Open your wallet and just give what you feel like giving. But to participate in a event to raise the money is a totally different thing. I've been there, read the book, bought the t-shirt. Believe me, you will live to cherish the thought.

As I said earlier, the car wash thingy could be a shallow idea. If anyone else has a better suggestion or any suggestion at all, let's toy with it. I'm sure, with all the good folks we have in this forum, we can do something for our friend and neighbour Yvonne. :)

Good suggestion but not so practical. We need space and a lot of planning and cordination. The reason why I supported lord's idea of a car wash is that it does not involve much logistic and preparation. We just work with some key car wash centres but we will volunteer to participate and create the festivity mood. And I believe in staying focus. And this wash is needed by everybody who drives a car. If we should do one thing, let us do it damn good. We will set up a committee to plan in detail. Meantime we need more ideas to spark up this car wash. Forget about getting our girls to wash in their bikini or in wet Tshirt. I have thought about that and I know this will sure hebuh but it may not go down well with the authorities.

This objective of this car wash fund raising is just to raise the capital to print the 1000 Tshirts for Yvonne to sell. Of course we will use our network to help her push it. But first we must get the buy in from Yvonne before we start the ball rolling.

May the Good Lord bless Yvonne and let her lead a happy and meaningful life. Amen.

Dear Yvonne,
I wish to donate by having a t shirt when it is ready.
I wish to send my cars for washing when it is possible for me to donate for Yvonne.

If anyone wish to upgrade Ericsson/SonyEricsson phone from USJ area, I could help and you donate and I send to Yvonne.

Reading about the NF2 make me feel 'terharu'. I could only pray today for Yvonne. May you have the strength.

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for all the support. Subang Jaya is indeed a fantastic place to live in. I had a long day today. The whole morning was spent in the hospital for a speech recognition test. Someone came over with sponsored NF brochures while mom and I were away to check out where NTV7 is.

Don't forget to catch me LIVE on NTV7's The Breakfast Show, 9am tomorrow (14th Sept '05)! This will mark the start of my NF campaign.

And thank you all for the fundraising suggestion. I am fine by anything as long as everyone is happy and no one gets hurt. I've put aside RM3K (donated by my friend) for this t-shirt project, so sponsorship is not neccessary. Also, I decided not to use that pink graphic as design. I have some folks helping out by creating a more generic logo and we should get some results pretty soon. I suppose t-shirt printing takes at least a month, so I won't risk the time looking for a sponsorship, so let's use the RM3K I have.

My surgery costs more than RM100k, and the hearing aid (the auditory brainstem Implant) that I need, alone costs another USD30,000. It's expensive, I know. But it would be good if I am the first person to bring this technology back to Malaysia. It is really the only hearing aid that works for patients of NF2.

That's all for now. And hey, I dont mind washing cars with you guys!

p/s: the t-shirt promotion and sales alone can become a BIG PROJECT. By the way, the shirt would be black and won't have a hint of my name on it. Some people don't like advertising for me, you see. :-) I've also received comments that people prefer buying a good quality shirt even in this case. If its bad quality, then they rather donate the whole sum to me without the shirt. What do you think?

it borders on the 'that's incredible' for me to spend time watching the idiot box, let alone at such ungodly hour. Having known that a young SJ resident is making a guest appearance to briefly make known Neurofibromatosis, I set the buzzer and did the incredible...

Yvonne's short appearance in ntv7 opened my eyes to NF. This young lady's is a true personification of the Boleh spirit. Syabas Yvonne and to her friend too. The bond displayed is a true blue friend-in-need fashion. Having such friend is a precious rarity. You are a gem to Vyonne.

Count me in for any fund raising activities (wash car/bikes, food fair etc) and travel break permits, I'll be there to assist.

Yang Akan Berusaha lato tupai

p/s Methink from a communication point of view, I agree with the idea of not using the heart & the message 'donate to yvonne...' If the objective is to raise awareness of NF and using that objective to raise funds for Yvonne, then the graphics or typo or design should be NF related(?) and the sign off: ...'design inspired by Yvonne' in smaller print size by the corner.
