Dear all,

I'm looking for a compact digital camera and after going through all the availability in the market, my personal choice is Panasonic Lumix. I'm a total newbie in photography and my choice is based on the sample photos that were shown to me. Perhaps I'll be able to obtain some valuable feedback from here.

I use an old Lumix (2 megapixels). I find the colours have a slight bluish tint. However it would only be obvious if you compared a photo taken with another brand of camera. It just so happened my brother took a similar shot with his Canon and I found the Canon pic to have warmer colours and gave more accurate skin tones.

Other than that, I have no real complaints about Lumix.

Will the current model will inherit the slight excessive coloration? I've checked the Canon (photo samples), to me it was just normal without the "wow" factor and and the Lumix is just simply irresistible. BTW, the Lumix model which I'm looking at is DMCFX7.

Thanks.

Which CANON model are you referring to? From waht I read in photography mags and reviews, CANON normally score quite high for their cameras but not PANASONIC. This may be due to the reviewer personal bias.

Well, a camera is a camera. The purpose is to take photo. Since it is a compact, it would make much different to average users. As long as it takes clear pictures, should be ok.

With software like Photo Element and Photo Shop, you can do anything with a photo....

The most important is, it fits your budget, you like it and it does what you want.

Another important factor it the printing, if you go to one who does not know what he is doing or colour blind... then your photos will be crappy.

If you dont mind paying 69cents a copy then I recommend Canon Sephy SP600 photo printer. You can PS or PE before printing. Like that you cannot blame the printer technician :D

There are many compact digicams in the market. It depends on what you want or how much you willing to pay for it. The FX series from Panasonic is not bad, leica lens and OS.(optical stabiliser). I hv the Ixus 40 and am very happy with it. Small and compact to be slipped in my pocket. The new Nikon S2 is also not bad with all weather body. Or the Konica Minolta X1, 8mp with AS(Anti Shake). Best is to go to the camera shop and have a feel of those cameras. Check out the features as well, if you like to take night shots, some of this compacts might not be able to do so. Hope this helps.

I will give a recommendation - get your self a Canon and have fun for a year.
I then give you a web-site www.dpreview.com and read all their forums & review . You will be so confuse that you will not end up having any fun

Well, its actually the person behind the camera that makes the picture look good or not.
