i quite like Myboat steamboat in USJ 9. it's got individual pots for everyone so you can dunk your food in again if it's not cooked enough. and the soup at the end of the meal is yummy!!

i've had friends bring small kids who'll actually eat as they like the play masak masak cook your own food concept.

haven't tried Myboat but will do next weekend! Have tried the Fragrance Steamboat at USJ21, the chily is superb! and the seafood stuff is very fresh too. it cooks side dishes and tai chau type of noodles, the wantonmee chau is good with minced meat n vege. Butter prawn is yummy, crunchy n tasty. by de way, anyone tried very good salted egg crabs recently??

I have always enjoy the wide array of choices at Yuen Steamboat (facing Projet Petrol Station). The chilli sauce is also great! The baked chicken wings are heavenly lah!!!! Only RM18.80 per head. Got ice cream, jelly and fresh fruits for dessert too!

I love Kimchi Chigae (stew). Will check out the Shabu Shabu King in SS2 to find out if it's as good as the kimchi stew served at the Korean Restaurant in Amcorp Mall. That one is heavenly - spicy and hot, make you sweat, sweat, sweat! Very good on a cold day!

Last Sat, I also tried the Mei Zi Shabu Shabu in Puchong's Bandar Puteri. Each person has your own pot to cook the raw food. So, in terms of hygiene, it's very clean lah. The sauces served with the food are also delicious! Check it out, be early or you may need to queue for seats.

Went to Yuen couple of times in Mentari Park but after seeing the queue, give up lah, from the time it was same block as Mcdonalds to current location. :(

Personally, I think all steamboat, provided the food are fresh, has the same flat taste lah, only the sauce makes the different. :)

If i'm not wrong, it has shifted to a corner shop lot behind Mcdonald's, very easy to locate by the queue if u go after 7pm..probably starve for the day n go earlier about 5 45 then u'll be guaranteed seats. By de way for those who hasn't eaten there before, it's a whack-all-u-want buffet style steamboat, i think first of it's kind in Subang,(that explains the long queue!) for about rm18+ per pax,12 for kiddos. Soup can be very nice if u add in crabs n seafood alike but it's always yummier at the end of de meal... :)

Actually, the steamboat soup at the end of the meal contained the extract of all the processed food such as fishballs, crabsticks, meat balls, sausages, hotdogs, etc that you boiled in there and u know what's in these processed food? Lye, salt, MSG, nitrates, and other undisclosed "additives". :p

Oh, pls don't mind me, I'm not myself today, hehehehe. :D

Happy Eating! :D :D

Has anyone, I bet someone has, tried Fatman Steamboat in a van parked outside HaDIY in Taipan? The only setback is you have to stand to eat..

It's actually not bad..you have to dip the meat on sticks to cook in a barrel of soup, and 3 different types of sauces to choose from (sweet, chily and satay)..

The sellers told me Fridays would be the better day to eat cos they get all the freshest kangkung and meat stuff on that day. Very friendly couple.

I like the 'si ham', liver, chewchow meatball, century eggs and kangkung. Conveniently parked nearby is a soyabean vendor. You could have a wholesome dinner just standing to eat!

Hahaha, that's what i did 2 nites ago. But it was kinda late, the soybean fella cabutted b4 i finished the Fatman lok-lok. The lok-lok is more expensive than the Satay Celup place in USJ21, u know that? 12 sticks for RM15, howzat? oh, u can also tapau some steamed paus or mantou from the van next to it too. :)

Fondue? Humm..a totally contrasting taste but could be nice if we like lotsa melted cheese (pulling type like pizza and lasagne)..Think wine shrimp fondue would be nice to go with french bread. But wouldn't know if it'll work for all kinda meat..wonder how the chinese would cook cheese in a steamboat kinda pot.. :p sticky sticky..

Earlier on, i've already posted in here, anyway, the porridge is actually the soup based for steamboat .. very nice .. dun worry so much, jz go try it .. basically the rest is the same, u juz need to order those stuff that u wanna put into the porridge and eat .. of cos they also serve normal soup based .. but their specialty is the porridge :D ;)

I've already tried once in Jln Pudu there. Since they've already come to subang no need to travel so far to try it ..

makan there twice, first time we burned the porridge in the first 3 minutes boiling it. we turn on the fire/heat too high and porridge burn very easily.

2nd time, clever already, we did not fiddle with the fire setting, let it boil on it own and it turns out not bad.

yah...it's definitely too thinly sliced for anything else..but of all the meats, the beef was the most delicious, unmarinated. I would rate it 5 only. Price not too cheap either, about 50 bucks for 3..That's why, no more for me. :)

All this talk of beef is making my keyboard wet with saliva already. Too bad it is on the pricey side though...else that'll b my dinner tonite :D

Well yes, i was supposed to try out that fondue house steamboat thingy...unfortunately, didn't try that one.

Went to Sri Hartamas. Parked the car and went looking for this fondue house. Decided to give up after about 20 mins walking in the hot sun. So, settled for Korean food instead...no regrets there! :D

On the way out only found the fondue house which is in the other building block...the newer one across the road.

i quite like Myboat steamboat in USJ 9. it's got individual pots for everyone so you can dunk your food in again if it's not cooked enough. and the soup at the end of the meal is yummy!!

i've had friends bring small kids who'll actually eat as they like the play masak masak cook your own food concept.

I guess the steamboat story can go 4ever. steamboat now is mushrooming everywhere...just like all the internet cafe, then medium-cost steak house (or i should call cafe, restaurant, shop....), then u hv dual-soup, then herbal and tomyam came in, follow by Szechaun Spicy (taiwan spicy soup). Now...u can even find porridge base. What's next? marmite soup?

let me see, i been to sri petaling, been to cheras (lotsa of them), pudu, kepong, now USJ...it have become a all-year round food...enjoy your steamboat...LOL

Have you guys tried out Coca? it has outlets in Subang Parade and Pyramid. Steamboat at Coca is good but a bit pricey if you're ordering ala carte. The afternoon buffet on saturdays for RM35++(?) is worth it though. Best part about Coca is probably their chilly sauce.

For steamboat lovers... please becareful... there is a type of chemical available in the market now. A drop of the chemical can make the soup taste superb, better than you boiled with bones. However, too much of that chemical will cause cancer (as reported by a news article recently).... So, is better to eat home-cooked steamboat.

I think it is the called Senomyx where it is being developed and soon major food and beverages would put the miracle ingredients from drinks and food. It has been determined to be Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) under the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, administered by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). S2383, which was discovered and developed by Senomyx, is an extremely effective enhancer of the high-intensity sweetener sucralose which is apparently known as potential danger for .
As whether it causes cancer, well, your guess is as good as mine. Cancer in Cigarettes was proven to be inconclusive until recently where class suits actions were filed for umpteen years. MSG meanwhile was regarded as excitoxin which has array of medical complications from obesity to cancer side effects, is being recognized as safe for public consumption.
Now, these claims of the newest X factor generation of artificial flavoring Senomyx would cause deaths? Well, we have to wait ...... Meanwhile, the major corporations like Nestle and Pepsi is going to incorporate the " Take the Challenge " taste in thier food and drinks product. :(
All these while, the corporations is always looking ways to cut costs at all expenses at your and my expenses.

Well, GRAS - generally recognized as safe as the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. :p :p :p

I stumbled on Flame City Steamboat Buffet at Jalan Puteri 1/4 in Puchong (non-halal). Great stuff there, the soup is fantastic. Quality is above average. price is cheaper than Grand Steamboat Garden (GSG) in Taipan. Operated by a Chinese national and local. Plenty of China dolls eat there too. :D :p

However, GSG is now having a promo, every fourth person eats for free.

Don't understand all that hype surrounding Taiwanese food either. Started with bubble tea, I think. Why don't you try them out and let us know how good it is?

Discovered Bee Ho (Pulau Ketam) Steamboat in SS15. Quite to my liking and it cost RM13.50 per person. Not buffet style but you can add on additional stuff if you want. Best part is non-halal cos got pork strips. :D

It looks like Taiwan sounds like but not lar. Only the ads like taiwan. Food locally source and sauce multinational. Even got Hawaiian sauce. Hahaha I never taste the sauce in Hawaii when I was staying there.
Just something different! Worth trying rm13.90 set lunch

Some Taiwan food are really nice, e.g. Three Cups Chicken (in Mandarin, San Pei Chi) or Beef Brisket Noodles. There is a nice Taiwanese restaurant in The Gardens called Foong Lye, located just across of Borders. It's a Taiwanese Restaurant and the food is really yummy. It has just opened an outlet in Sunway Pyramid, same row as Sushi King, facing the skating rink.

There's a Taiwanese Steak house newly opened next to True Fitness Gym in Taipan. Heard that this steak house is very popular in Taiwan. The chefs are brought in from Taiwan. Has anyone tried their steak yet?

For me it was quite disappointing. We were in the wilderness for some time until we started venturing out of SJ in search of Steamboat. It was when we found the hugely popular Ho Ho in Sri Petaling (non-halal). However, recently they hiked the price from 13.50 to 14.50.

I stumbled upon Flame City just recently.

I suppose it is non-halal?

I think it's not halal. We didn't order any pork dish that day.

The set meals are very worthwhile. 4 of us ordered 3 set meals. All set meals were served with rice, double-boiled soup (tang tong) and 3 small side dishes:

1) San Bei Chi - Three Cups Chicken
2) Beef stir fry with spring onions
3) Steamboat Sea Food - this is very very tasty and the seafood was aplenty

We also ordered a big bowl of ice kacang that came with lotsa red beans.

Our total bill came to RM88 for 4 pax.

We didn't order drinks though coz it was expensive. A teapot serving Chinese tea (various choices available) for 2 person cost RM12. Additional cup is charged RM3 each. So we skipped ordering the drinks.

All in all, I would say the meal was a very satisfying one. I had been frequenting Foong Lye in The Gardens for over a year. Each trip there has been a satisfying meal. Worth trying. But gotta be early coz the place is always filled up by meal time. The restaurant placed some comfortable sofas outside the restaurant for guests who are kept waiting. Guests are also offered drinks while they wait. Very good service. That's why I keep going back there whenever I am in Mid-Valley. :p

If you like Ho Ho style of steamboat, there are 3 in Puchong: one opposite IOI mall, one behind Tesco and one in Bdr Puteri. The most popular is the one in Bdr Puteri.

Ok, will try to direct.
1) Opposite IOI mall - forgot name of shop! It is behind the area where Boulevard is located ie there is a main road separating this shoplot from Boulevard. The shop is opposite Pizza Hut/Leong Nga, behind Taiping Lang. Corner coffee shop style.

2) Behind Tesco - I think the shop is called Pulau Ketam steamboat. Located in a quiet row of shoplots facing the Malton houses. Used to be the first steamboat in Puchong and in its heydays, people come from all over. Now rather quiet with so many competitors. However the crab dishes are still good. Can try the fired fish beehoon.

3) Bdr Puteri - shop is Bo Bo steamboat I think. opposite Giant ie not on Citibank side. It is on Bumbu Bali side, behind Station1. Crab dishes not so good except the fried crab bee hoon or fish bee hoon.

My personal fav is the one in SS15 Pulau Ketam. Reasonable and nice, especially the fried lala beehoon or fried crab beehoon.

I think the "Pulau Ketam" branches seem to be at a lot of places - I remember the one in Bandar Puteri (as mentioned by lly) - the Bo Bo Steamboat is also "Pulau Ketam" or is the name being abused like "Chan Sow Lin" Kepala Ikan ....
