This is NEWSFLASH regarding OPEN BURNING of a large scale happening at this VERY moment in Bandar Seri Subang (opposite Sunway Piramid)

This is the forth time in the last seven days that the fire department has been dispatched to the scene. And while other concerned citizens alongside myself have approached the media countless times, we have been largely ignored.

Yesterday I called NST, The Star was also called. None showed up. The NST pushed me over to the Malay Mail who conducted a 'phone interview,' merely sending over a photographer to collect the photos I had taken when the fire was raging in earnest. I had hoped that what I had revealed to the Malay Mail would be revealed in their paper today, pointing at the possible culprits and getting the authorities involved.

WE have no resorted to use the web to hopefully lure interest. I ask for all you help to read what has been written (http://alanbates.blogspot.com/2005/08/newsflash-open-burning-happening-now.html) and to let others know about this plight. It is affecting all of us in this area. Thank you. I appreciate the effort.

The Article with photos is here. (http://alanbates.blogspot.com/2005/08/newsflash-open-burning-happening-now.html)

This is scandalous. It just goes to show that there seems to be an orchestrated smokescreen (pardon the pun) that is being put up right now. A deliberate attempt to "blackout" all news about local pollution that might be contributing to the smog perhaps except those that are too large to be hidden (like the fires in Dengkil & Batang Berjuntai)?

Indonesia, while being the major source of the pollutants in the air right now, makes a convenient bogeyman for powers that be that would rather not be accountable to their own mismanagement of affairs and lip service towards sustainable development and environmental protection. Looks like a lot of us fell hook, line and sinker for it?

You are right Bob. I didn't strike me to why no one was botehring until you mentioned it. With the ever so little coverage of the lcoal fires I think you may be right about the "blanket ban" The news hasnt said anything thus far, but even Terengganu is experiencing haze. And i think thats a FIRST!

For thso who read the post when I first put it up, I have updated the post a little bit. New photo and some "updates" as the event came to a close last night.

Well Done alanb.

These photos are superb evidences. Now that we are in a state of emergency, perhaps these pictures be forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs..hopefully they can do a better job that the local council who obviously did'nt give cow spit about the whole affair. Better too for MHA to handle this...local council will fine this bastard RM 500 and let him go saying....not so big fire lah..small fire nobody complain one..
I too, am getting out mt digital camera and do my bit.

oh yes, trust our mass media to report something important...yea thrust them alright

it has all been forwarded to the Department of Environment. Been a few days, not even a reply yet. But are we all that surprised actually?

The Star hwover has responded somewhat. You can read their article here.
