PETALING JAYA: All schools in Kuala Lumpur and the districts of Klang and Kuala Selangor in Selangor will be closed Thursday and Friday due to the worsening haze.

i guess that answers your question?

You forgot to add

As for the other schools in Selangor, he said they were monitoring the situation and would announce more closures if the situation warranted. which is the answer that was sought. It means school is still on in subang Jaya/USJ unless notified.

oops. didn't see that.

I heard a verbal confirmation that SM SS17 is closed though.

Schools Can Be Closed In Critical Haze Situations, Says Hishammuddin (http://www.moe.gov.my/tayang.php?laman=baca_akhbar&bhs=my&id=349)

Sekolah terjejas teruk jerebu dibenar tutup (http://www.moe.gov.my/tayang.php?laman=baca_akhbar&bhs=my&id=348)

The way Hishammudin put it, it's up to the discretion of individual headmasters and informing the Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah beforehand.

Saya serahkan kepada kepimpinan sekolah untuk membuat keputusan dan mereka perlu bertanggungjawab sepenuhnya.

He's is good! Agree yet not agreeing. Pure politician. Shifts responsibility to the headmaster yet at the same time, puts himself in positive light and yet allows an escape route out.

edit: i believe most chinese schools will remain open though. ;) reason being Standard 6 pupils already have classes on Saturdays and UPSR just around the corner.

Can it be more ridiculous? Why only stop KL, Klang & Kuala Selangor schools from operating? Isn't API levels >300 is already considered critically harzadous???
These levels are also apparent in both PJ, Subang & Shah Alam (perhaps other unidentified areas too).

Should we all still wait for Govt direction, or should we based on the facts & our sensible senses?

Do we have to face children admitting into the hospital before we take action?

Puzzled...

Why KL and Klang only? Isn't Subang and PJ in between these 2 areas, and the haze equally bad? Gosh...can Hisham do anything sensible? Common sense is all he needs, and he doesn't have it.

Up to district education offices he may say...does that mean he has no control over them? Meaning he reports to the said offices rather than the other way round? My oh my...he should resign honourably (as Rafidah should have too) rather than making a fool of himself. The haze is not gonna cloud his ugly face from the public.

HI
If not mistaken he said that he left it to the discretion of the head of the schools to close or not

Indeed, and it doesn't sound very intelligent coming from him. Here we are facing a National Crisis (funny the govt doesn't call it as such) and it's the best time for him to shine as a resolute politician but too bad he fell flat.

Arising from the indecisive act of some politicians we parents are now in a quandary as to whether to send our kids to school or not.

This morning the phone line of my son's school was engaged all the time! I finally got thru' at about 9.30 am and managed to speak to the school's administrator. I'm sure all the schools in Selangor are having the same problems now as parents are unsure whether school is on or off. Don't the politician know that most primary schools (sekolah kebangsaan) here don't have any active websites available where we parents can surf to find out the latest news on whether school is open or close for that day? We all have to rely on the single phone line of the school and common sense will tell you that the line is going to be inundated with calls.

Anyway for my son's case, I have already made up my mind not to send him to school today and tomorrow with or without the school making any announcement or decision. I called just out of curiosity to find out what is the decision of that particular school. The administrator of this school told me that the school is open and all teachers are there (doing their own work but not teaching!) but they have advised school children not to turn up for school today due to the bad haze. So students who turned up are advised to go home. Was told that not many students turned up today. And when I asked how about tomorrow, I was told that we should look at the weather tomorrow. If there is a good rain tonight and the sky clears up by tomorrow morning, then tomorrow is a normal school day. However, if the haze persists then we parents can be rest assured that tomorrow is also an off day.

Wow, first the minister of education delegated the decision to the district level then it was delegated to the individual school HMs now it is finally delegated to we parents who will have to look into the sky and make a final decision for our kids! Malaysia Boleh! what more can I say... :D

I loath to think what will happen if our country is threatened or invaded:

BN Minister: "Erm...i leave it to the military to take-lah whatever action necessary to uphold our nation's sovereignty. Inadequate supplies? I urge them to consider the situation and do whatever deemed fit. Heavy casualties? I urge Malaysians to arm themselves to fight the invaders in the name of patriotism. The Indons are the ones attacking? What nonsense is that...they're merely coming over to say hi to us. We should welcome them in the full spirit of brotherliness"

Called on SK USJ12. According to the school PKs, school will still be in operation since some students are still going to the school today. However, only one fifth of the school population had turned up today & lessons will be minimal for this week.

I don't know whether my daughter's school is closed or not (SK Sri Selangor USJ4). But, I don't send her to school since Wednesday, probably until after the school holiday.
