Do this means the real episode of 'War of the Worlds'? :D

10-08-2005, 05:21 PM
Oh yes
I hear it too the winds are blowing and I hear thunder..what sweet music..big hailstones too.. Sure God has answered our prayers :)

10-08-2005, 05:23 PM
Look out .... it's Hujan Batu!!!! At least here in USJ 2....

10-08-2005, 05:24 PM
Its cloud seeding, not natural rain. We're also experiencing rain in Shah Alam too.

10-08-2005, 05:30 PM
raeally? did hear or read of any cloud seeding exercise being done..

10-08-2005, 05:31 PM
Acid rain?

10-08-2005, 05:32 PM
Yes it is raining small pellets of ice over here in Bandar Sunway too.

Lucky they are only the size of M&M's Chocolate Candy, any bigger and all the cars would be damaged.

10-08-2005, 05:44 PM
The weather ppl couldnt forecast this rain..they said no rain till end of August. our weather ppl are set of goons I never rely on them...anyway in SJ its still raining but the air still smells foul.

10-08-2005, 05:46 PM
it is good news then !!
not only the haze problem could be relief, temp too more comfortable

10-08-2005, 05:51 PM
Check out the the M&Ms from the sky... Managed to grab my handy camera and took some photos.

10-08-2005, 05:56 PM
yah hail stones...i was outside carrefour n

10-08-2005, 05:56 PM
Aiyah, i think stopped already........

But, at least 1 hour of solid rain..........

And I couldnt care less if it is cloud-seeding, bomoh-induced, or whatever....as long as it is raining, good enough, can BREATH easier !!!

10-08-2005, 06:02 PM
It is raining rock at my place, my garden is covered with ice!!!

10-08-2005, 06:03 PM
hail storm in ss14 too

10-08-2005, 06:04 PM
It is a man made rain. An airplane carrying dry ice flew to a certain height - and find the biggest cloud in limited time. After that, they will drop dry ice making the cloud moisture a bit, thus making heavy rain.

10-08-2005, 06:13 PM
hailed in ss19 as well about 2 mins of hailed but its still as hazy as ever :( rained only about 10-15mins here..just a little cooler.hope they'll be more rain to come eventhough its man made but the rain and ice cubes are really of a dirty color though!

Here's a past article from www.bbc.co.uk pertaining to pollution, rain & cloud seeding... See how to identify rain caused by cloud seeding. ...

Air pollution stops rain

By BBC News Online's Damian Carrington

Urban and industrial air pollution can stop rain and snow falling, satellite data have revealed.

He showed that the pollution particles led to abnormally small droplets that were far too tiny to fall to Earth - the first direct evidence of how pollution affects rainfall.

Floods and fires

Professor Rosenfeld told BBC News Online that the new work suggested that the smoke from forest fires could prevent quenching rain from falling.

"Large amounts of smoke such as from burning vegetation might reduce the precipitation from clouds in some conditions," he said.

However, he thought it unlikely that clouds could be deliberately treated to prevent heavy rain from causing floods: "The clouds that are susceptible to the pollution are short living, but I would think that the most extensive floods are caused by long living cloud systems."

Millions of droplets

The reason why pollution stops rain and snow is that the particles allow the cloud moisture to condense into much smaller droplets than usual.

It takes about one million normal-sized droplets to collide and coalesce to produce a rain drop large enough to fall to Earth. With the smaller droplets, the chances of collision are much lower and drops do not form.

The smaller droplets are also slower to freeze into ice crystals, resulting in less sleet and snow.

Urban and industrial air pollution is a significant problem in many regions of the world, so Professor Rosenfeld's findings suggest that human activity may be affecting rainfall patterns on a global scale.

Poking holes in clouds

"In the past, scientists had to collect information by poking little holes in clouds from airplanes because you can't replicate rain-clouds in the lab," he said. "But now, new satellite instruments allow us to measure cloud precipitation and microstructure simultaneously over large areas.

"Water absorbs in parts of the infrared solar spectrum, so larger droplets absorb more IR solar radiation and reflect less back to space. Therefore, exact calculations based on the measured radiation by the satellite sensors provide information about the cloud particle size."

However, he also notes that in other parts of the world air pollution is more widespread and not as easy to distinguish.

Therefore, according to Owen Toon, of the University of Colorado at Boulder, the well-defined tracks identified in the study "serve as a Rosetta stone for the potential impact of more widely-distributed aerosol pollution on clouds".

Another impact of the new work is on schemes to provoke rain by seeding clouds from airplanes. These use large particles to attract water.

"With the new space technology, we can identify the clouds which could possibly benefit from cloud seeding and not just seed blindly as has been the case until now," said Professor Rosenfeld.

"Furthermore, we might be able to see the seeding effects on the clouds. In fact, observing clouds that were seeded with silver iodide, aimed at producing more ice, I was able to see the seeding signatures on the cloud droplets turning into ice."

What storm?..probably migrated to another area 20 mins ago..but glad there's rain!..thank God!

10-08-2005, 07:24 PM
Why lah, no rain in Old Klang Road.

10-08-2005, 08:47 PM
all the hail stones - bising saja ada. air quality still the same. can't believe it, school is still on tomorrow in Chee Wen  although KL schools ( with lower API index) is closed. might declare own holiday tomorrow if the situation persist. stay safe, stay healthy!

10-08-2005, 08:55 PM
Yes it was heavy rain with strong wind, but short lived. MY daughter and I was collecting tghe hails (ice) ;-) from our balcony. Since the period was too short, I dont think is going to do any good in helping to reduce the smog.

Hopefully no vehicles was damage by the hail, the biggest I saw was as big as 20 cents coin....anyone else saw it.

I think it was caused by the seeding (...thats what I heard but no official news whether they had done the seeding)

10-08-2005, 10:40 PM
i was driving at the road in front of USJ2 when the hailstorm happened! was pretty scary, the wind was strong and we feared that the hard impact of the pebbles hitting our car would actually break the windshield. I could see some panicky drivers, not beingable to drive in straight line, some even turned on their hazard lights despite the fact that they are still moving. :)

nevertheless it was a great experience being caught in a hailstorm in USJ. THe only hailstorm that i even experienced was in US few years ago. That was not as scary as this one!

cool! :o

10-08-2005, 10:56 PM
It is raining rock at my place, my garden is covered with ice!!!

could it be coz of ur nickname :D

10-08-2005, 11:04 PM
Err...sorry...when Orchi last prayed for heavy rain...ahem...Orchi wasn't that specific...so it was pouring in around SJ/USJ niah... :p

10-08-2005, 11:26 PM
so, orchi-san.

would you be fixing up the dents, nicks and chips on me car? :D

on a side note, the roof tiles are a wee bit cleaner now... 0.0001% cleaner.

10-08-2005, 11:32 PM
It is raining rock at my place, my garden is covered with ice!!!

Err...it's NO joking matter...was told that little Orchis were out to 'play' with them 'ice'...after the storm... :D

14-08-2005, 02:32 PM
Super dark clouds over SJ/USJ

Hopefully, rain kuat kuat lah........

1. Clear whatever haze residue
2. Fill up whatever low-level dams (else, we will be buying water containers soon)

Unfortunately, kids would have to go to school 2moro.... :D

14-08-2005, 03:09 PM
is this from cloud seeding?

14-08-2005, 03:09 PM
Err...rain is mother nature's way to rejuvenate the land...life begins soon after the rain....

Ahem...more than ever...rain is being much appreciated by man...of his wrongdoings...

14-08-2005, 04:13 PM
Just back from Ampang..its was raining cats and dogs and visibility was poor and as usuall string of accidents too, Malaysians dont know how to drive in the rain!!!Anyway has God answered our prayers? hope HE will the douce the fires too. ;)

14-08-2005, 04:51 PM
The change of wind direction have eased the haze in my area. Now my area has an API of 73, considered moderate by the jas.sains.com.my website.

How about Subang Jaya?
I heard there was no more haze?

14-08-2005, 09:01 PM
I think, God answered some of our prayers............... :D

Real heavy rain now.........

So long never rain. Now I am :D

Yah...I think the wind blows it to northern states of Malaysia..

14-08-2005, 09:29 PM
If not mistaken, ramalan kaji cuaca indicates strong wind and rain in Klang Valley, Perak, Penang.....2moro

So, hopefully, that will help us all

15-08-2005, 11:31 AM
ramalan kaji cuaca

Who are they? Malaysia has two kinds weather only, if its not raining then its hot, why do we need to rely on these blokes to give us this information and most of time wrong, its not diffuclt to forecast our weather.

15-08-2005, 06:46 PM
It is still very choking in Ipoh today. I got to stay at home bcoz of my sinus problem...

Arrr..ghh glad to be back to see the sun again after more than a week in China. Miss all the local hazy and hailstorm here but experience a different kind in Beijing. News flash all over tv of the coming 9th rated typhoon with rains and strong winds lashing the coast of Qinhuangdao from Aug. 7-10. Stayed indoors all the time to avoid any unforseen incident if ever these storm hit with its loaded moisture pouring. The only consolation is that Qinhuangdao is not on the direct path like Shanghai unless it changes course as it approaches.

Finally over on the Aug. 11th but with the full summer haze to contend with. Must be in the region of Api 100 to 200 with high 32degC temp n humidity. Surprisingly the locals don't give a blink on it . Even the kwailo's there get the drift of the malaysian haze and asked question where it came from. Perhaps it is a yearly phenomenon and they have accept it as part of the weather cycle. No sun visible but it does not have a burnt smell like what we got it here.

18-08-2005, 09:16 AM
Its being a raining this morning but air smells smokey..are the winds bringing back the haze again.?

Hello...just received an sms from friend it goes like tis..

..haze expected next week if fires in Riau, Sumatra are not put out and wind set to change in south westerly directions, says Met.Services Dept/STAR...

.. oh..oh.....................................

18-08-2005, 01:34 PM
Then I better stock up my mask...
