Curious to know too. Apparently it is also reported at SJ and Puchung on the way to USJ. Central KL at 4.30pm seems bright and sunny.

Wow...I just knew that this thread would be up! Am choking my lungs out here in USJ South of the Border...nostrils burning and its so hard to breathe!

Dad said visibility was very poor when he was returning from Cheras/Kajang area.

Early this morning around 7.30/8.00am I could smell a very strong chemical in the air and the whole area was overcast. The smell continued throughout the day and almost immediately gave me a migraine.

Around 4pm it was really bad over here. I couldn't even see three doors down from my house!

Really wonder what caused this? My first thought this morning with the chemical smell was that factory somewhere in USJ 20 or thereabouts thats releasing toxic pollutants into the air. But this really smells like something chemical is burning now.

Hope we get some news soon.

Chermaine, drive safe, if you are really worried maybe just hang around a mall or something nearby until the evening coolness lifts the haze a bit?

Or maybe they are clearing more land in Bukit Cerakah

No need to worry. The situation seems to be better now. Just drive slowly! Use highway :)

Just saw the news..apparently peat fires in Cyberjaya. They said it could have been started by some migrant workers cooking.

Aarrghh...

apparently situation going to be bad for the next few days.

Sigh...pity all asthmatics!

For those who wants to read the English version atBernama (http://www.bernama.com.my/)

The news report does not say anything about burning at Cyberjaya hence i am curious how did the haze creep in so suddenly and left just as suddenly as well (suddenly, not slow dissipation).

SunwayKid
02-08-2005, 08:49 PM
Maybe it is MPSJ over-fogging the area for mosquitoes?!

Very likely both lah, and plus maybe some over-fogging of aedes in Subang or maybe more land clearing in Bukit Cerakah. Or could it be a fog that just get blown away so fast. :)

Went out to get bread at 10pm and I was immediately hit by the stench of smoke outside my house. Visibility at USJ much worse now than at 6pm. Looks like the peat fires at Cyberjaya has gotten worse. The weather is just too dry. There is not enough ground water to prevent the peat from burning once it started. Now I'm hoping for rain but the weather report said "fine", so no relieve for now.

jand

let's hope this haze does not herald the return of another financial crisis like the one back in '97.

Heard on MixFM this morning that fires in a plantation in Cyberjaya is the source of the haze. Wondering why the authorities must point the finger outwards first...blame others first, correct later :D

Just read today's NST page 2. Says that the Cyberjaya Fire & Rescue dept operation officer Shuib Sulaiman expected the soouldering peat fire to stop burning by Thursday.... so I expect some haze today. He also said that the cause of the fire could be some angler may have started a small fire to chase away mosquitoes!

That small fire can effect whole of KL/PJ meh?

God helped us out by giving us rain last night/this morning. If not, the condition would have been worse with yesterday's haze accumulated till today :)

for those with asthmatic background (like myself), do take good care, and don't go outdoor too much.

Hey Rachel...there was a very heavy rain this morning around 7 a.m. in SJ/USJ. Didn't u know that? U mean u r staying in KL now  i thot u r from USJ 9 mar :p

Anyway... yes, we better pray hard that tonite it will rain heavily again as the skies are looking very blurr again. I can see from my office here in KL that visibility now is only about 2-3 KM only.

At this point of view, can Malaysia do something out of it? Can we sue those who has caused the haze as compensation for harming our health?

if there's any strong findings of haze(air quality) vs health, DOE should be doing more fight backs on the issue firmly.

I think it's pouring though, don't think it's from the water sprinklers on roof of the building...

No rain here this morning...only very strong strong wind from 7am to 7.30am. After that it was clear until noon when everything went dark, smoky and white again.

sigh.

No wonder Rachel missed the rain, she left so early in the morning...

I guess I must consider myself fortunate as I take the KTM Komuter to KL Sentral and from there I take the LRT to work in KL. In so doing, I save not only on petrol but also can afford to leave my house later. I normally reached the KTM station in SJ at around 7.30 am and still can make it in time to work in KL and don't have to leave so early like what Rachel does...

Oops..Vixey must be from the other end of USJ and that's why no rain for her this morning. Know what? SJ/USJ is such a big area that weather conditions in different areas are not the same!

Anyway, glad to hear from KelvC that SJ is now pouring. Over here in KL it is now only drizzling. Hope it turns heavy soon and clear the mess in the sky.
