I would like to share this recipe that my father's friend from Shanghai taught me. It can be served on the side as an appetizer.

Cucumber Salad
==============
2 large cucumbers
5-7 chili padi
5 cloves of garlic
1 teaspoon of salt ( more or less, less to begin with )
3 tablespoons of white vinegar
1-2 teaspoon of Sesame oil

1. Finely slice cucumbers into thin slices.
2. Add the salt and vinegar to the cucumbers. Mix the cucumbers and salt thoroughly with your fingers. This will "marinate" the cucumbers.
3. Mince the garlic and chili padi and add to the cucumbers.
4. Add 1-2 teaspoon of sesame oil

Taste the cucumbers frequently as you make it and add more of each ingredient. If you want it spicy, add more minced chili padi. If the garlic taste is too strong, put less garlic in there. The salt and vinegar acids help the cucumber to absorb the flavors of garlic, chili and sesame oil.

Once you're satisfied with the taste, chill in the fridge before serving.

Eeeh Monty, my mom also adds a small teaspoon of sugar for extra taste... ;)

That's interesting! I'll try that the next time. Thanks for the tip.
