Ski,

R u the adventurous type? If yes, perhaps you wanna consider making a slight de-tour (either when you reached Perak border or leaving Perak) to a small town named Kampar (half way to Ipoh)...been there couple of times with friends and below are my recommendations:

(Morning Wet Market cum Food Stalls)

1) Char Koay Tiew - search for the stall which is runned by a couple. The husband is the cook and he used a really BIG wok for frying. He'll be sitting on a tiny wooden bench, frying koay tiew non-stop, as early as they start business.

- The noodles are fried with nice texture & color; not too dry or soggy and not too dark (ie too much thick soy sauce) either.
- Taugeh, "kow-choy" & egg added in right proportion.
- Kerang is fresh & not the packet stuff.
- Overall taste is great esp. when he used charcoal to cook plus "lard" is added to the noodles when frying, which really brings out the aroma.

2) Sticky glutinous rice (Chinese called it "loh-mai-fan") - this particular stall is located outside the wet market food court, more accurate to say in the centre of wet market.
- Rice is tasty esp. when it's cooked together with dried prawns.
- Std packet is just a small bowl of rice but char-siew & kacang will be added on top for extra taste.

3) Chee-cheong-fun
- This is wat I called authentic CCF. The noodles is the long, thin, & flat type with dried prawns & kow-choy added.
- The stall is located not too far from the char-koay-tiew stall.
- CCF can be eaten with either "home-made" curry or prawn paste (ie the black color type, the type which u add to assam laksa).
- I'd recommend eating it with curry esp. when you add the fried foo-chok, curry fishballs, it's just so YUMMY! ;)

4) Assam Laksa - go for the stall which is only opened for biz in the afternoon. I think stall is along Jln Idris (if I rmbr correctly), at the end of a row of shop houses...

5) Air-batu-campur & sotong kangkong - check out this coffee shop, "Fong Mun Kee" (something like that).
- Authentic ABC with gula melaka, if that's your preferance. Just like wat you seen in Phua Chu Kang, served by Ah-Ma. :p
- Wat I like abt the sotong kangkong is the sauce, which is different from the sweet sauce used in Subang/USJ/PJ/KL. Yhis coffeeshop will provide you 2 different sauces; sweet sauce & chilli paste. Blend them in the correct proportion & add-in the peanuts provided...you definitely won't go wrong with that!

Happy eating!
