This recipe is designed for the kids to be involved in making gingerbread cookies - perfect for Easter.
Recipe makes 15-20 gingerbread men.
Ingredients:
500g plain flour
10g baking powder
10g ground cinnamon
200g ground ginger
100g soft brown sugar
100g margarine
4 large spoonfuls of golden syrup
Method:
1. Sift flour, baking powder and spices into bowl (the older children can do this)
2. Melt the sugar, margarine and syrup together in a saucepan over low heat; pour onto flour mixture.
3. Mix with a wooden spoon to make dough. Tip onto clean, floured work surface. Check that it is cool enough to handle safely.
4. Kneed the dough well (older kids can handle this).
5. Divide dough into pieces. Give each child a piece to shape into figure. Or you can roll out the dough and use a gingerbreadman cookie cutter.
6. Bake on greased baking sheets at 350F or 180C for 5-10 minutes, or until goldern brown. Thicker shapes will take longer.
7. Loosen cookies from the pan while they are still warm. Leave to cool.
To decorate, use icing to apply the gingerbreadman's eyes, smile and buttons. Mix icing sugar with a little water. Use powder coloring, not liquid.
Enjoy!
