You need not register your business as a company. You can register your business as a sole proprietorship. The start up cost is lower than a company. For a company, you need to incur annual audit and secretarial fees. To register a company, you need at least two shareholders.

For registration of sole proprietorship, you can go to the Mall opposite PWTC to register the business yourself or you can use one of the many shop lots offerring business registration services

It's relatively easy to register a sole prorietorship business in Malaysia.

But the Registrar can also de-register it (revoke the registration of a business and cancel the Certificate of Registration) where he has reasonable cause to believe that the business registered under the Act is not being carried on or not in operation.

The conditions under which the registrar will revoke the business registration under the Act are as follows:-
a) The Certificate of Registration of Business has expired;
b) The company is not carrying on business or is not in operation;
c) Reports from the SSM investigating officers shows the business has ceased operations;
d) others (read the Act)

If your business is small and 'low profile', it's a good idea to AVOID using a 'SDN BHD' as a vehicle.
