RM 51 million for landscaping and other works by a municipal council... Sheeeesh! and we freaked out when our MPSJ spent (or wasted ) RM5 million(??) for our Dataran fiasco....

What would irk anyone reading the news is these officials insistance that the expenditure is justified! Even good ol' cool Datuk Seri Rafidah can blow her top (!) off because of this...

Hopefully one day, there would be a law that would "execute" these so called officials for wasting or embezzling public funds... like in China! :D

I bet it includes the costs of those horrible multicoloured plastic 'palm-trees' I see procreating around town. Before I moved, they had only spread to Melaka, now I'm shocked to them in KL as well. Is there really no one left with taste? I haven't seen one in USJ yet, but when it happens I'll get my dad's chainsaw.

Upon north in Penang, it takes the form of the habiscus tree welcoming visitors to the Pearl of the Orient. Habis lah. I remember in Rawang there was a hue and cry about all these artificial trees when in Malaysia we are blessed with enough rainfall and sunshine to plant natural trees and let God maintain them. About 5 years ago when they landscaped the areas around Bukit Kiara and the SPRINT Highway, each natural oil palm trees (not even the royal palm) was priced at RM 3,500.00. Looking back, though it was a little too pricey, I think it was not too bad. I would have fainted if they were plastic oil palm trees.

PS: Isarahim, you don't need a chain saw to bring them down. Just a car battery and a wire will cut through the the plastic very easily.

hmmm... I can just see the headline by Tourism Malaysia... "Welcome to the land of plastic trees"... or that song "Malaysia...Truely Plastic"

There are still thousands of homes in M'sia with water and electricity. Wouldn't it be wiser take care of our OWN citizen than the tourist first? What will be the impression when the tourist are here and seeing those thousands that are suffering?
This reminds me of how Proton takes care of the Ang Mohs with higher quality cars, subsidized and extended 3 yrs warranty.
Sigh... it looks like Barang Naik govt is still biting the very hands that feeds it.

Precisely the point..... It is all boils down the stupid ADUNs and MPs that are more bothered to get their hands (and feet...) in the BIG CASH COWS and probably make something on the side than to see to their constituencies get taken care of, and to hold these Municipal appointees accountable....

Here we have parents of children and people who have to depend on the generosity of the public, appealing for donations to have emergency medical attention and heart/liver surgeries and we have bloody APPOINTED municipal big shots wasting money sinfully on decorative pots and plastic palm trees..... I'll bet my last freaking ringgit that if these councillors had to be elected, they would be very careful as they would be held accountable in the next local elections. It is downright wrong to see these so-called Council Presidents and cohorts behaving like its their little fiefdom and they can do whatever they like with the money ratepayers and taxpayers pay.

AL, Not a chance that they will be elected by the residents...I hoohaaed on this at a politco website and one of them asked me to enter ground level politics, work hard & worm/beg/lie/grovel/fork-tongue/cry/clown my way to divisional level and then get the first taste of politico-reward by being recommended to be exco/councillor of a district...after that, how knows, the sky is the limit...

I said "Ok, see you in hell" 'cos its shorter distance...:p

Hi Isarahim, :)
If that's not enough, how 'bout w'll get a few more! :) :p
This sure is getting ppl on their nerves... Wastage of public funds...
Huh! Never seem to have an end... Municipal Councils does not seem to be responsible to the ppl, and hence the spending seems to be at their own disposal, without regard to the needs of the ppl.

Fortunately BN still have thinking ppl (http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2005/6/19/nation/11262173&sec=nation)
