The USJ Residents' Association membership is opened to all residents living within USJ 1 - USJ 27. That is the only criteria. The membership fee is there is a one time joining fee of RM 4.00 and a yearly membership subscription fee of RM 6.00. Membership forms are available at our registration counter at the meeting place this coming Sunday. You can sign and pay up there and then. Normally we collect 2 years subscription since the BGM is held once in two years.

Now, you may ask why should I become a member and what is the benefit of being a member. Basically the USJRA is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) and like any other NGO, it is also a non profit organisation. The USJRA wants to play a active role in representing the residents interest in dealing with the local authority in protecting their interest. There are times when the RA has to put pressure on the Local Authority to attend to the grouses of the residents. We can only do that if we have the numbers. Our MPSJ today treated the RA lightly. We wanted to amend our constitution to automatically make all USJ residents as members so that we can be proud to be able to say we are an organisation of 250,000 members and that will make the difference. The USJRA is the only legally registered body representaing the residents. That is why we could undertake to do a fund raising campaign during the recent Tsunami disaster.

We also want to promote neighbourliness and this role is complementary to those Neighbourhood Watches found in many precincts. Example: we actually invited IWK to explain to our members why we should settle our IWK bills. Also we have organised a seminar on security three years ago by inviting senior police officers to give a talk. The USJRA also play a role in organising a health check and community dinners. We hope that with these activities, we can promote a better lifestyle in the USJ community.

Unfortunately, during the last few years, the USJRA role has been neutralised or diminished by the creation of the JKP system by MPSJ. We were perceived to be rather inactive and impotent lately. It also looks like the RA is not being recognised by the local authority who by right should be working together with us to deliver a better service to our members who incidentally are the tax payers. They have never accepted our invitation to them to attend our BGMs and we have also given up hope on that. But we hope that this coming BGM will see new blood that will bring up the RA to its glorious days of yesteryears. We need your support for that.

Thanks PC, :) for the introduction to the Residents Association. Sad to hear that it is often being ignored or rather confused with JKP, which translates to Residents Exco.

With the understanding that the RA is completely unrelated to JKP. It should be more relevant as a focus point for Residents to voice their concerns, and provide a platform for raising that voice.

I had to be out-of-town yesterday last minute, and only back today. Unable to make it in time to the BGM. Any highlites of the BGM to share?

Any one attended the RA BGM?

Who are the office bearers? Any idea? What activity is being planned for the coming 365 days?

Anyone care to share?
