With so many new vehicle launches that have option for safety accessories now , which would be a better choice . ABS with EBD or DUAL AIRBAGS ?
Of course the best would be both option in. But some vehicle only comes with AIRBAGS. Why not ABS? Which is more important ?

air bag and abs is important. all modern cars shd have it. we shd not compromise our safety. having a harder body does not compensate for non having proper safety equip in our car.

Yeah! both are equally important. If I rate it ABS 1st and Airbag 2nd. Why?

Airbag will only deployed if impact from the front! (from my car manual)

we are a third world country. ABS and Airbags are consider as accessories. What a shame!!

ABS is a must for emergency braking esp. in the wet. Airbags are life saver then your ABS couldn't save you to avoid a collision.

Choosing between ABS and Airbags is like choosin between your mother and your wife. Tell me which one?

Err...in many countries...these are standards issued for safety compliance on new cars...where folks there pay averagely much less than what malaysians suckers pay for their new cars...due to ridiculous taxes(direct n indirect...or over n below) generally...

Many even made the safety belts usage for passengers at the rear...n side airbags for front n rear passengers...compulsory safety standards issue...err...still the prices are lower...

EBD or any traction control or transmission control devices are optional devices...granted...

Vehicle's front...rear...side...n roof panels n even the windscreens n windows are to meet certain level of impact resistance or retardant n safety features or guidelines...n outer body impact absorption crumple zones n internal stiff passenger safety cage...are accepted as standard passenger vehicle designed...by world class manufacturers....

Still...the prices of these features included...these vehicles are being sold cheaper elsewhere...

Since buyers here can make a choice because the car launch here give them or don't give them what is supposed to be standard firstworld safety package. Should they have to come to that choice ...which one should they choose? Leave it to salesman talk? Or is it akin to choosing from mother or wife ?

Maybe another factor to be considered is the maintenance after 5 years...airbag - RM500 plus each vs ABS...

I can't believe that air bags and ABS aren't standard on all cars anymore, but, if I had to choose one, I would go for the ABS. ABS helps you prevent accidents, air bags are for damage limitation (injury limitation) in the event of an accident... so, I would prefer to avoid any accidents at all. However, if you are a very confident and skillful driver, someone who never slams on the brake even in 'emergency' situations, you may be able to get away with it, but I don't recommend it.

I have ABS even on my scooter which was bought CBU overseas. It is standard in some high-powered scooters (not superbikes!) like the Yamaha T-max 500cc or the Yamaha Majesty 400cc scooters. It works and honestly, I have been saved from skidding a lot many times. ABS II was on my first beemer bike the BMW-K100RS back in 1994. Which is more important - ABS or Airbags? For bikes, where to install the airbags???? :D Maybe got safety latches like those pilots in fighter jets - ejector seats c/w parachute??

Err...it would be difficult to get Orchi to buy new vehicle...n would be impossible to get Orchi to buy any potong leher(new models proton?):D

Or...any new makes or models of cars...IF the distributor offers them as options...one might as well forget about buying the vehicle...simply because...modern safety n drivetrain efficiency features...are NOT so called after market add-ons...instead they ought to work in synergy as an integral unit...

Imagine the car having the inboard diagnostics system...is programmed to detect any malfunctions...in the coooling...lubrication...braking(ABS, pads wear)...firing...injection timing...n other critical systems...such as ARS(airbags)

Ahem...how the heck one is gonna get anything good out of paying n adding those freaking so called optional add-ons...?...puzzling isn't?

BTW...CCY:)...which freaking car are you referring to?

Err...back in 1996...Orchi bought wifey an imported CD5...fully CBU mind you...with low mileage...which came with ABS/Airbag/CruseControl/4AT/All wheel Disc Brakes/Fuel Injected 2L DOHC engine/original tuner(Japan Channels:D)...top speed tested 185km/h(cut off)...without AWS only...from a local BIG finance company...after the car been repo-ed...n the previous owner failed to payup!...err...guess for how much...?

Used it for 3 years...the cardi NEVER lets out a hiss or a miss...n finally Orchi sold it for....err...guess how much....?

What is Orchi trying to jive at?....Go figure lar!

Need any help?....well let Orchi tell you this...that's freaking 9 years ago...the car came from J-A-Pan...with all them safety features...!...err...why the heck...so many folks still wanna put up with those freaking new car nonsense?!...being suckered...lika big timer...:D

N guess what...paid less than 100k eventually for a fully imported CBU-CRV...n wifey been having it since 1999...got ARS/ABS/AWD/4AT+overdrive/Fuel Injection DOHC Engine/+ all the goodies in the spacious interior for 5/n can load 3 carts full of groceries from Carrefour(at the back mind you) ...without even wispering a word of dissatisfaction...EVER!...until now...still could do 185km/h(cut off) any day...!...TOP World Class built quality...no pissing or cracking noise this far...!

Err...all this was due to ONE man...by the name of...the Late Soichiro-San:)

Ahem...the tough to beat history itself is worth...your trust n investment of your HARD earned sweat blood n shiit bricks money...

if you really really had to choose - ABS would be my choice. No car should come without it.

On the subject of airbags - in Malaysia, if got 2 airbags, we damn impressed already. Cars in Europe, like the VW Golf (which is now available here) come with 12 airbags!! And these are small family cars - bread and butter models, not expensive executive / luxury cars! That would be like saying that the Gen 2 came with ABS and 12 airbags!!!!

With or without airbag or ABS does not make any difference to mere mortals like us as far as our lives are concerned. This is what the gomen thinks. The leaders are being driven in luxury cars or buy luxury cars with all the extras but couldn't care a hoot about us. Our leaders ( or so called leaders?) should all drive a standard plotong and then we'll see if they make any noise about not getting airbags or ABS.
