It had been explained before and I'll do it again. Trust Jeff to choose a Japanese word! As I understand it Kan is equivalent to "see" while ban = "board". so, Kanban = notice board. It is a channel where Jeff puts up posts that require attention. He once used that to post info on thefts and break-ins.
