Wait till PC FAIR...you can get a very cheap notebook.

normally I just check out the ads on the newspaper. Do a comparison on the specs and price. If u have a budget, try to get the best spec out within ur budget. :)
Side track a bit, it's amazing PC Fair is gonna be held in KL Convention Centre (KLCC). I got some work there, and I m not sure whether they'll (KLCC) make it!!

It depends on your specification, do you always need to carry it along? If you use the notebook for so simple personal work, like surf net, check mail, not much of programming work and do not mind of the weight, the normal one you can get is around RM3000-RM4000.
The things we always look into and compare is the processor, brand, hard disk, weight. There are always good deal to buy at PC fair as the price will be more cheaper and will have more free gifts. Go for more booth and ask for question you do not know, you will also learn from there. After comparing with different booth then you can make decision more easily.
I would buy a Compaq 15' centrino 1.6, 512 DDR2 RAM. It's all about performance. You can get one for RM3,299

Dear, I would prefer Acer, as their service is good here (Ipoh). Some more the part is cheaper compare with Compaq. For "Basic" use, RM2699 (jun 2005) can get a celeron with 15",wifi and combo drive(dvd+cdrw). :p
Anyway the most important is - Alwayz get/buy the "Extended Warranty" as an insurance for your NB! Watever brand is it, it cant guarantee that all parts will be running fine within 1-3 yrs!

i'd say toshiba, the glenmarie svc center is pretty good, did a hdd change fast in lunch hour. (cos i dropped the lappie) :D company mostly using toshibas , noprob..i also have a personal toshiba.
buy branded like toshiba/dell/compaq is better than going for those no-names. battery availability 3 yrs down the road is one thing...good service also important
