Just when I thought of adopting a puppy, the authorities came out with the proposal on “Meaningful Licence and Canine Citizen Relationship Programme”
Can someone tell me what exactly is this thing?
Day-course?
How much ?
It is a pity that the few rotten apples created a big headache for the rest.
Personally, I think this is just to make life difficult for dog owners.
Hi,
A canine good citizen is a course to train our dogs being well behaved and friendly to people and others pets around. You can register yourself with MKA for the course, it is a 10 weeks course of one hour duration per week. The training ground will be at padang merbok beside Jalan Gasing. (usually sunday 4pm-7pm) you can have a look and get yourself an idea before register.
The course is RM 100 for purebred and RM120 for mixed breed. It's compulsory you have to register as MKA member to take the course.
After 10 weeks your dogs will go trough 10 tests :-
1. accepting friendly srtanger, showing no aggreassive.
2. accepting friendly patting/ touching from stranger
3. welcome being groomed and examined
4. out for a walk on loose leash (Heel work)
5. walk through a crowd showing no aggreassive and under control by the owner.
6. friendly to others dog
7. coming when called
8. stay in place when command
9. reaction to daily distraction
10. supervised separation
CGC is the most basic course and you can start training your puppy when it reaches 6 mths old. The course not only train the dogs but will also educate owners being a responsible dog owners (i.e pick up your doggie poo), besides your dogs can social with others dog during training time.
I personally very argree with this suggestion. Hope my info helps.
:D

Thanks for the reply.
Actually, I wanted to get a puppy for my son.
When the pup grows up, hopefully, can help me 'keep an eye' on the house.
Now, correct me if I am wrong:
If my future dog is trained (under this MLCCRP) to:
1. accepting friendly srtanger, showing no aggreassive.
2. accepting friendly patting/ touching from stranger
Then, I think the issue of dog helping the master to 'jaga rumah' is defeated.

I guess the thieves and the security alarm company is laughing their heads off when they know this. Somehow I got a feeling that these two groups are working hand in hand.... just like the computer virus creator and also anti-virus software company.
hey Jordan,
I have dogs myself and I love dogs very much. Just my knowledge, even your dogs had pass the CGC course, dogs will still bark on stranger if they come in their territory (Our house), what they trying to do is to train our dogs more behave on public. :D
To make your dogs being more friendly in public is also another way makes your life easier. You no need keep on walking with your dog on pulling the leash. I think every dog need some training. They have many levels, CGC is just the very basic course, being been trough the course I found my mongrels easier control, and I can even bring them to any dog events. However, in home, they are still my guard dogs. haha :D

As long as I don't end up with:
Sending a growler to the course and ended up with a whimper!
I mean, nowadays, people keep dogs for various reasons. Companionship, show off to friends, enter dog contest, whatever.......In any case, that is their business.
For me, I just want a dog to help me jaga rumah.
I just hope these people know what they are doing................
Jordan,
Don't worry, if you get the right breed (like : rotweiller, german shepherd) most likely even they pass the highest stage (obedient class) still they can jaga rumah. :D Because house is their territory. ;)
