Hi...I am a big time nasi kandar fan from Penang, one pcs daging, 2 kacang, half telur masin is the best combination for me. What about yours? :D

I like the Nasi Kandar in Chow Yang SS2. Haven't been there for a while.
Usually will take fried cabbage, Honey Chicken and some ladies finger (found in the curry fish head).

Heard Chow Yang in SS2 has closed shop....any clue anyone?

And also heard that the Nasi Kandar boss opened a shop behind the old Chow Yang. Would anyone know and able to confirm this?

Yalor, Chow Yang now known as LIM MEE YOKE. The KAYU nasi kandar now moved to the shop behind....their shop now is bigger than Chow Yang...lawan tauke!!!

That's Kayu nasi Kandar, previously ChowYang Restaurant. Behind Lim Mee Yoke. They have a branch in Taipan. Love their Honey chicken and telur ikan! :)

That's the Nasi Kayu Kandar you're talking abt...opposite Bee's Bakery. Yeap, the telur ikan is excellent but find it too pricey...std for me is the honey chicken plus std vege & telur ikan...they normally charged me RM9 for that!

My best nasi kandar, other than old Kayu in Chaw Yang and now in Taipan is in MPPJ car park, near the roundabout, just before Club Syabas.

Name is Zainur Nasi Kandar. This is the second generation operating the stall. The fried chicken is very good. Give it a try.

The most authentic Nasi Kandar is Yassin Nasi Kandar situated at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman , K.L. opposite the Cycle & Carriage showroom. There is a bus stop in front. Try their curry ikan bawal and black chicken, sotong and mutton.

To enjoy it, order curry ikan bawal and the rest drips of all sauces of sotong, beef, chicken, etc and do not order prawns. Add fresh green chilli and egg.
to me there is no subsitute not even kayu . The rice is so nice to go with the curry and sauces which kayu cannot offer. Go before 12.30pm otherwise long cue. Teh O limau ice to wash down.,

AFAIK, there's one ingredient of spice that's often used in Nasi Kandar curries which for one reason it's tasty and could be addictive. Its kas-kas aka poppy seeds.! Gives it a nutty taste as well as a thickening agent.

The irony is that the best nasi kandar is found in Klang Valley..Penang no more!.Even Kayu got a shop right smack middle of Penang Road. Might as well eat here!.

no no no....only eat Kayu in Klang Valley. In Penang, you can go to any roadside stalls and the nasi kandar are much better than Kayu Nasi Kandar.

For the Kayu in SS2, if you queue to get your the food, the price is around $6 or more (depends what you take also lar). If you let them serve you, then be prepared to pay a lot.

I don't think that's the case with the outlet in Taipan.

I would say Kayu serves the best nasi kandar. Even our current PM used to send his driver to pack for his family when Kayu was still operating from a stall.

However, I lament the fact that the current batch of workers manning the nasi area are not properly trained. The owner (Buruhan Mohd) and his lieutenants used to mix the curries very well, but the current workers seem to have no idea on how best to mix and match. Often I had to orchestrate the mixing of curries to my taste, which was how Buruhan would have made it during his hands-on time. So I would not be surprised that newbies to Kayu in recent times would give it less than a thumbs up.

The owner of chow yang coffee shop gambled evrything away even his shop. Nasi kandar was just renting from him at the back of his shop with a small stall and the people queing up just to bungkus frm him or to eatthere such good business. Then when the tauke of chow yang lost his shop the owner of the nasi kandar bought over frm him n opened the one now thats at the back of chow yang now.

He was betting on World Cup soccer but I am not too sure which World Cup he lost everything. Most probably 2002 as 1998 would be too long ago. I believe the owner of the Kayu in SS 2 is the OR ( 'original recipe.') I asked him how is he related to Sirajuddin, the man running the Taipan outlet, he said that is his cousin. In all the police functions at the USJ 8 balai polis and at the Shah Alam police adminstration district where we were served food, Sirajuddin will be there. But if you want good taste go to the SS 2 Kayu.

I've tried both Kayus in Taipan and SS2. I would say SS2 for me anytime. Somehow the one in Taipan is a poor cousin to SS2. Doesnt taste the same......Also the one in Taipan more expensive......

Yummy or not, I've given up patronizing any joint of theirs..they're of no value and a rip-off at their asking prices.

Agree with BS. So now when and if I want to eat at Kayu, I make sure I eat smart. But I realize the guy sometimes give me a dirty look because I just order rice, one egg and kacang! And sometimes just one piece of beef and kacang. How much can he ripped me off? Ha ha!! Refused to even order drinks. Even papadam, I wont ask for more. Then eating halfway, I go ask for more!

Way to go Patrick! You're indeed a prudent man!
I've switched to patronizing a banana leaf restaurant in Sect 11/PJ (hint: 2nd one). One gets 4 types of vege (Kayu stingyly gives 1tbs of cabbage), a heap of rice (Kayu stingyly gives hardly enough to fill a child's stomach), superb and most powerful tasting Chicken Varuvel (Kayu gives chicken that's probably as hard as wood), a generous amount of choice curry, 3 types of crackers (including poppadam), side bits chili garam & achar, cuppa of rasam and morru, last of all FOC ice cold water in a tumbler. Then eat like there's no tomorrow!.. Ma'plair!...tambah lagi poppadam, nasi, vege, curry, air sejuk!..and the waiters come rushing to your place in no time!. Best part is it all costs RM7/nett!..no more, no less!. Kayu will likely CHARGE for ANYTHING it deems as extra!...beware!. I kena before with extra 2tablespoon of plain rice, that looked like only half cup that the waiter considered full..I nearly stormed out of the shop!.

If it rains, there's waiters armed with umbrella's to walk you to your car!.. EXCELLENT!. :D
Since I've been a regular there, now I just sit down, no need to utter my order, it all comes to me like I was king there!..in less than 3 mins. :D
OTH, I wouldn't recommend the BL joint at Taipan! The service is atrocious and quality not up to expectation.

I've also made it a habit NEVER to order drinks from other places as I'm not agreeable to the likes of them charging nonsense taste chinese tea or plain water in dirty looking plastic containers at outrageous prices. Its not the money or affordability issue..their asking price is outrageous!..so I'm for one who will not support their blatant profiteering.

Anway, the value and service at Kayu is a very pale comparison to where I usually frequent now. Its overhyped and unreasonably priced in my view, the same amount of money spent can get better elsewhere for sure.

Kayu is nice, the other one I also like is banana leaf restaurant (not quite sure about the name) behind lisa de inn hotel, on top of the hill facing to junction going into SS2.

For Subang, I normally go to Pelita for Nasi Beriani.

I love it....

Maybe I'm just lazy or fear because of jam, parking or packed placed, to Jln T.A.R. opposite former Cycle & Carraige site, there's a famous NK there. Think some of you folks would be familiar. I heard is very good..price..unsure.. :o

However, I used to patronize one few doors away (Restoran Sithique now closed down, probably sold out) from Globe Silk Store. That NK was very original taste, especially their black curry ayam or daging.

Why so quiet one ahh??..no-one interested in NK ahh?
Here goes my most recent encounter with NK.

Last week I took a detour into Bukit Puchong like 6km further in..where I know Zainul Nasi Kandar has a shop there. Oh well, almost the same food but less the pricy items of prawns, crab, sotong..just mere basics..RM3.50 for rice with curry and a peha ayam...ok ok lah..can't beat the one at PJ.

Hahahah..the irony is..your petrol could got you Rm3.50 to & fro..
Its quite far in turned off from the Kajang/Cyberjaya highway..8km estimated all the way in. Zainul PJ could be a wiser option in comparison.

I've been going to Zainul NK at Puchong Putra Perdana, next best alternative to their PJ stall. Met the proprieter and he said the place will be open 24hrs during the World Cup match days... I'd probably go lepak there for a change..with good NK.

BS, give me a hoot huh? If available, would luv to join you for a NK lepak. Or you want to try a new Nasi Briyani Gam? Just after you get out of Jln Kewajipan, turn left and head to towards the toll house. Do a quick U turn and there you are. Branch of the one near Putrajaya.

Will hoot you soon, my friend..should I go there next.
I've passed by that NBG you mentioned but many a time don't look busy to me?..hardly or almost no customers there. Nevertheless..I'd already intended to try it out one day, after some friends did hype about it.

It seems its open only after 12pm. But the place is a bit hot lah just like the one in Putra Jaya. That's the snag.
