Residents get together for clean up effort
THE USJ13 neighbourhood in Subang Jaya has always been a clean and well-maintained area.
Despite this, residents still took pains to organise a Clean Neighbourhood Day on Sunday at the community centre located opposite SMK USJ13.
The event, supported by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), was organised by the USJ 13 Rukun Tetangga (RT) and Residents’ Committee (JKP) Zone Three (USJ 12-27).
USJ 13 RT advisor Loo Chin Oon said the event was organised with the objective of having a clean and healthy community.
“This gotong-royong has been organised yearly since 2003,” said Loo.
More than 80 families took part in the event that began at 7.30am.
After being assigned duties by team leaders, the participants went around the neighbourhood to collect discarded rubbish, clean up drains and also clear places with stagnant water that could be breeding sites for dengue mosquitoes.
Nasi lemak and beverages were served to participants after the event ended at 11am.
Some of the participants also took home hampers that they won in a lucky draw while others got goodie bags sponsored by Sara Lee Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
Ridsect sponsored T-shirts for the participants while Matrix Valley Holding Sdn Bhd sponsored bottled drinking water.
MPSJ councillor Yap Yun Fatt said the event showed how much the residents cared about their neighbourhood.
“The USJ 13 RT has successfully reduced crime in the area since it began conducting neighbourhood patrols in the evenings four years ago. Since then, it has also been active in organising other community activities like family days,” said Yap.
Also present was Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng, who contributed RM2,500 towards the event.
Lee said such events not only helped to clean up the neighbourhood but also bring about closer ties among the residents.
