View Full Version : Stress On The Road

Here's the thing, I left the office yesterday evening and was waiting at a set of traffic lights to make a turn. The stretch was long and I was on the extreme right lane around 50 to 80mtrs away from the lights, waiting to make a right turn. When the cars ahead started moving slowly, this lady coming from the left tried to make a squeeze and cut in infront of me. Eventhough the gap was like 10ft, which is nothing on the road, she tried to get in. Me, being the rascal I am, kept on moving and didn't want to give the b!tch a chance. Somehow she managed to get the better of me. I came out of the lane and stopped beside her car, wound down the windows and kept on staring at her. The woman had some paper in her hands and was pretending to look at the papers. Her eyes were like going to burst into tears any time. I kept on staring at her, never taking my eyes away for the entire period before I could move. She looked to her right, bit her nails and I wouldn't be surprised if she actually soiled herself in the car.

Here's my question,

1. If I were to walk out of my car, knock on her window and if she does wind down, tell her what a bitch she is for doing what she did, am I in the wrong?

2. If I were to walk out of my car, knock on her window and if she does wind down, tell her that it was not really nice to do such a thing and she should be more civic minded, am I in the wrong?

3. If I sat in my car and showed her my lucky and beautiful middle finger when she looks at me, am I in the wrong?

4. And let's say, due to my unfortunate luck, I get dragged in by the cops for road rage, can I get away by saying that she was the cause of me getting mad? Can I also explain to the cop that everyone has got a fuse up there and though the 'sizes' may vary with people, the fuse WILL snap one day?

I mean, I just don't get it. You make someone angry and when the guy blows his fuse, you say he is nuts!! Unless, these people believe they live in the midst of the prophets who are always patient and tolerant and atpeace with themselves.

I really hope some kind soul will enlighten me on these issues before I begin what I am destined to do in this life, KNOCK SOME SENSE INTO THE COWS THAT DRIVE CARS!!!!

Here's the other one that I did recently.

Was driving back home one evening and decided to turn into the road that devides USJ4 and USJ12. And just as I turned into USJ12, saw this long queue of cars infront of the school, parents waiting to pick their kids who are bound to be let loose 10 or 15 mins time. The drive was not too bad but suddenly it came to a halt, just a few mtrs from the main gate of the school. After waiting for a few sec, I got out to see what was happening. There she was, this fat b!tch in a Toyota Altis, parked right smack in the ctr of the road, hand brakes up, and would have cooly lighted a ciggy if she was the smoking type. Man, she was lucky that I was actually on my way home to get changed and go 'thani' and not returning home after 'thani'. And can you imagine this fatso staring at the school and didn't bother abt the honking she was getting from the other cars.

I walked up to her car and knocked on the window. When she turned (imagine me doing it very slowly, ok guys), slowly, very lowly showed her the middle finger and brought it to my temple(the side of my forehead) and knocked it a couple of times before showing the universal sign 'tarak'. And then walked back to my car. I can't explain the look on the onlookers around there at that time, but it was freaky, joe. I mean, I gave the indians a new title on that day, "Don't mess around with the black guys" would be my guess.

When I got back in my car again, I noticed that traffic was back at work and she actually bolted off after that.

Enough of scarry indian rogue stories for now. Just get me help on the above!! I seriously don't want to have a cardiac arrest in my car!!!!

Sometimes is kind of herd mentality.......mayb she saw someone doing it and get away easily.....she assume she can do the same.......but main reason is not the driver.......

I blame our authority who not strict on the traffic......why Singapore can and Malaysia not...........??? Just me pondering  ............

I noe who to call when I need to recruit mah chai for my axe gang.......u seem to be quite up to the standard....... :D ......but pity the lady.......she may have got her driving license from the JPJ who being tapau liao........nowadays......with money....u can even hire thugs to kill another person..........drugs can be quite damaging to our society and for few bucks..........our life almost like the dog on the road which being knock down and left to be run over by another and another and another car.........

Ever wonder why................ ;)

it has to be both. no police, all tibai emergency lane lah, cut queue lah, block lane lah. if there is police, wahh.. very angelic drivers, nak overtake pun takut.

if a driver THINKS he/she can get away with queue jumping, double parking or emergency lane driving, then it's not about enforcement. it's about attitude. most of the times, it's plain laziness and inconsiderate.

hmmm. the 2nd case the horizontally challenged b*tch deserved your personal attention .. they do it coz they get away with it and others let them do so.. so bravo :-).. she will be looking into her rear view mirror for you next time she tries that kinda stunts.

for queue cutter .. dunno lah.. i agree that when it is obvious queue cutting they are being rude.. but then again there are occasions when we need kind souls to let us in the right turning lane queue coz there wasn't much of chance to get into the "right" lane earlier. You've probably got that kind soul look.. lol.. and you almost made her cry.

I am just curious a little......when u show ur beautiful middle finger.....is it your palm facing down or up??............if down means u need some tongkat ali.........most probably the reason for her tears.........bolat liao.....hehehe :D .......

Anyway, like idolfan said.........we knew u to be a more patient and understanding soul........the next time u feel like bursting........just think of the words we lavishly throw upon u..........and for sympathy sake.......b4 we road rage..............think of the other party family..........and how bout the person actually ur wifey or sister or mader.........

Take heart that u have enuff patient to deal with such situation and ur fuse most probably made from superconductor........ :D ........God is great......so are HIS men.........

Look here, angels. I am not the road-bully type, ok. C'mon, I'm educated, smart, good-looking(this one is aboslutely rite, the girls always keep on saying this to me. After I buy them their cocktail, they leave for another guy. That, I have to sort out), live in an upper middle class hood, work in a not-so-bad joint!!! C'monlah, I'm never the type who throws crowbars and steering locks and blow punches in the middle of the road, man. I'm not into that hardcore stuff. I JUST PAY PEOPLE TO DO IT!!!!!

Bro, when they don't value other people's life, why should I!! Hey, heard of this one, "Do unto others what you want others to do to you"? So, I'm just REACTING to the situation created by the other person, period.

Let me ask you, seen any driver just get out of his car, walk up to the other car fellow and start smashing his car? No, unless the other fellow hutang with that fellow lah. You know which fellow or not?!!!

OK, you guys are doing great. I just hope you guys are practising what you preach. If I can change 10 dudes in this forum and that 10 convert another 10 and it goes on like that, in no time I'll be the king of the road!!!

On a lighter note...........I just scold inside the car..........and pretend that i am singing to the tune of my radio..........words that not heard doesn't hurt.........and the best thing is......me able to avoid any confrontation..........and to be honest just honk.........and in India........u can hear honk....honnkk....hoooonnnnkkkkk.....any minutes of the day.......except when most ppl already sleep liao........... :D

Taking the two incidents Lord has raised. Let me be the Devil's Advocate and put this to him and the rest of you. If instead of a lady in offending car, but four burly, muscular and huge men with tattoo on their arms which look like oak tree trunks, would you still either a) give a long piercing stare, or b) get out of your car and tap on the window?

A brilliant question, I would like to know lord's take on this too :D

Flying the middle finger is barbaric. Though, there were two incidents that I had to use the middle finger and the intimidating stare. I’m guilty as charge, but will never do that to a lady.

Perhaps, we should try to take these things easy and it would be easier on us.

i don't do the middle finger salute anymore. i did something that i've learned watching joey in friends. it's either fictional, or really done by the italians as a form of middle-finger salute. most of the times people won't realize that it's like a middle-finger salute, but i at least get the satisfaction of showing them one.

Honestly, I'm yet to encounter "four burly, muscular and huge men with tattoo on their arms which look like oak tree trunks". Seriously.

But should fate have it that I do 'bump' into them, I'll give them chancelah. I'm sure they are really in a hurry to complete some very important 'job'!! Get what I mean ;).

Joe, I think I have to keep up with the trend, man. Need to learn that new 'salute'. Maybe during the next TT session.

Joey's Salute - A step by step guide
1. Look very displeased .... a frown with eyebrows almost touching would do fine
2. Bring downturned palm slowly, very slowly ( the dramatic effect is awesome, bro .... a bit like what Lord did to the lady driver ) towards the bottom of your chin
3. Bring fingers below the chin with nails facing up
4. Place nails of fingers against chin
5. Now with a menacing frown ( with murder written all over your face ) move fingers forward like a catapult shot from under the chin ( and hope that you have remembered to trim your finger nails )
6. If you hear the sound like sandpaper brushing against coarse wood it means you have done the action correctly ..... wait a minute it also means you did not shave properly lah. Sommoe if the sound is like a scream it means you did not clip your finger nails lor, and the scream emanated from you lor.
JoeJ, this Joe oso watch Joey in Friends lor.

just to off track a bit on this issue, wud like to share my experience on driving cultural difference that i have experience while i was in india for 3 years. those chaps in india honks all the time is actually to inform other cars on the road that they are coming (no one feels offended if you honk), so pls watch out. unlike in malaysia, you honk bcs you want to inform the other cars that they are irritating you due to their bad driving habits/ skills or ways.

Whenever you come across these rude drivers, be they the “ONES” who think they can get away with it, or “4 TOUGH GUYS” who will get away with it.

Do one the following,

If you are religious, recite your favourite prayer at least 5 times.

If you are an atheist like some people I know, I recommend taking out your wallet and start counting your money. If there is too little to count, be angry with yourself for not earning enough and if you have too much to count, say to yourself “Damn! I am so lucky”

You’re welcome Alex.

If we can prevent a fellow forumer from acting out of anger and frustration in any stressful situation it would be good.

There are really too many instances of road rage that positively changed the lives of perfectly normal human beings. In the final analysis, it is really a lousy price to pay.

Sorry to hear about your rage.

One thing I learn about "queue cutter" is if it's a girl, somehow they do not know how to do it intelligently, fast, clean and responsble. I find them not able to do it efficiently and not to interupt others. I have witness young girls who suddenly rush to cut queues and end up causing slowdown in traffics. Even though I hate queue(I being a queue cutter sometimes), I do respect some of the guys (and some ladies) ask politely using hand that they want to cut in. Is this a gene thing?

Actually I didn't think Robert was trying to be funny but his words rang true. How many times was it that we were angry with others because of our own frustration and deep-seated (but perhaps unconscious to us) anger that the whole world has been very unfair to us? Then we went out and took it out on others. I think - and I speak for myself - I would not mind so much about the young girl cutting car queue in front of me if I know that my family is secured for life as Bill Gates has made a US50 million transfer to my Maybank account and that Penelope Cruz wrote to me and said that she loved me and me only. On the other hand, I would be giving her the middle finger, stared at her or get out of my car to tap on her window if I am behind in my house and car payments to the bank and my boss has just chewed me.

Err...just the other night...when wifey reached home from work...Orchi summoned her to find out IF she had experienced being given the middle finger treatment by a handsome guy driving a car in a possible tussle of Q jumping on that particular evening...

The fact that she answered NO...Orchi breathed much easier...

But not until she added that...she might have been greeted by the sign language...instead by an ugly looking dude driving a car while she tries to squeeze thru a jam enroute to pick up little Orchi...

Then Orchi raised voice to ask her further...about how many times she experienced being shown the finger sign...n was suprised to hear that she has gotten it often from time to time...

Once in particular was from a fellow lady driver too... :D

Orchi. It just goes to show that there are many people in SJ/USJ who are frustrated with their own inadequacies of life and are taking it out on others. Or perhaps that is an over-generalisation?

What if you are a man and it is the lady who shows you the middle finger whether pointing up or down, what will be your blood pressure reading? And what if she was in the wrong? It could push you to smash her windscreen. That was what I felt.

Last week, this thing happened to me. The stretch between the Sekolah Kebangsaan USJ 12 to the end of the USJ 12/1 is a one way street to enable a smoother flow of traffic between the hours of 7.00 to 7.30 in the morning and again 12.30 - 1.30 in the afternoon like you see in most schools. The traffic warden placed a NO ENTRY sign to prevent people from going through. I was sending my two primary school children to school at that time when this lady driving car with registration number WFD 618 went against the traffic flow. When it was my turn to face off with her, I stuck to my gun wanting to force her to reverse out but I was on the losing end as my kids were complaining that they might be late for school if papa continued to be stubborn. So I gave way eventually but what raged me was when she drove past me, she showed me the finger! She should thank God that three things were in her favour. She was heading in the opposite direction, I was running out of time and I had two children in my car. If you are that lady, don't do that. You will turn a nerd into a monster or a pussycat into a tiger. She may not realise that if she using that route everyday, I may be there waiting for her and vent my revenge on her but following Robert's advice, I will say my favourite prayer "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.........."

pcyeoh,
i liked the fact that the moderator did not remove the plate number of the vechicle that you have put up in bold. If we have roughly about 5,000 readers on this forum, there is a possibility some of us may know the owner of the car or have seen the car around. Shame on her for showing the finger without probably knowing the meaning. And if she was my neighbour, I will probably grin at her everytime i see her.

I wonder if this is a great idea, but from now on I hope to see more people daring to put up the Car Registration Number of queue-jumpers, finger-saluters, illegal-parkers in this forum. And being one of the drivers around USJ area, I wouldn't ever want to see my own plate number here. So, I'm determined to be a better driver from now on. :D

I am also preparing to state the car registration number of this blue Toyota Altis driven by the mother of a student in SMK USJ 12 for nearly killing a student two weeks ago while the student was crossing the road. This irresponsible driver should have stopped as it was RED for her at the pedestrian traffic light. She just ignored the red light. The near miss was seen by many students and it was my son who related this incident to me. He also mentioned that at the school assembly, the school made the announcement for the driver of the car to own up. I need clearance from the school as I did not witness the near miss and to be fair to the lady driver, I shall stop at this point. I will check if this has been resolved. I hate people ignoring red lights to allow pedestrians to cross the road

By the way, I called MPSJ and they have rectified the timing of the lights here as it was functioning as a normal traffic light when it should be manually activated whenever students want to cross the road.

And poor me who can afford only Kancil.........one lorry which carrying a few round of aluminium roll accidently skidded and the cargo just drop on the road.......it smash the tar into a hollow ground.......

And if u confront one fella.......the whole consortium of lorry drivers will come after u.........once I saw a kontena just fell from the trailer and the car beside penyek like hamburger.............

And the best thing is......they never bother to follow the traffic lights...........b'coz all these are hardcore drivers........taking drugs and lack of sleep...............early morning when I drive to work.......have to look left and right even when the traffic light showing green.......u never noe when one joker will just ram his vehicle towards u and ur car just overturn 3-4 times............. :(

And imagine the frustration of drivers who stuck there for 2 hrs for no reason.............

Lately there are many drivers who just don't bother if their car is stalling the road although obvious reason is vehicle breakdown..........but shudn't he/she put up some kind of indication so that others can help to tow the car to nearest workshop???............or they afraid that ppl will just beat them up for this ....so they stay inside the car pretending nothing happen until help arrive???

feeling stressed out today due to the traffic condition this morning on my way to work. The traffic jam was mainly caused by people 'creating' an additional lane along the emergency lane. As the drive fast past us, they even honked us to give way. About 500meters after that, they started merging back to our lane because the road got narrower! how mad i was!

does anyone know how or whom should i make a complaint regarding this? This happens every morning and i am getting really sick of it.

If instead of a lady in offending car, but four burly, muscular and huge men with tattoo on their arms which look like oak tree trunks, would you still either a) give a long piercing stare, or b) get out of your car and tap on the window?

:D

my kisah benar:
1. 4men in a 2door car jumped my q and when i honked, driver gave me the 3rd finger. I snapped and went after them...they stopped 2 cars ahead at the red light, i came out with a 'something' and prepare to whack the first guy,any guy, who dare to come out from the car. chicken driver saw raging tupai coming, twisted his steering and jumped the red light. i failed to whack the saluter.
2. 1 man tail-gating me at 7am in fed h'way. And after an all-night working session, i was in no mood to play games. !diot overtook me and BRAKED! right infront of me. I ended up with 3 adam's apples. I slammed brakes,he pulled away. !diot made a mistake to turn into Sjaya (my territory lah). I chase and caught up him at Sparade traffic light. I emerged and went straight for him...stoopid !diot came out and saw a knuckle sandwich jammed to his face. I bitch-fought (pulled his hair lah) and jammed his head between his car door and chasis while delivering some knee jabs to his ribs for good measures. Some Sunday morning drivers pulled me off and I warned the guy against pulling such stunt and it was his bad luck he met me instead of a meek lady driver.
3. a lady in a bmw shot out of a USJ junction and caused me to take evasive action...being on 2wheels, i felled. B!tch didn't stop but i have her numbers. This lady better be watching out and if she were to take a lan-si attitude with me when i get to confront her...i WILL slap her and if her husband/boyfriend or anyone were to interfere, i WILL make it their business too!

OK, while such graphic description? Its merely an advice that sometimes, more often than not, most victimised drivers WILL give way, count their money and pretend nuthin' is 'appening....But consistent bad attitude and bad driving habits will one day meet its retribution.

Mark my word.

Same warning goes for this lady in a white honda accord who jumped my q a few months ago...next time, i will stop u and then I WILL SLAP U and prepare to face (and maybe regret) the consequences later.

To the !diot drivers out there, I have not reach the level to turn the other cheek yet.

My apologies to forum members if I have sounded frivolous. My main intention of posting the above is really to illustrate the old Chinese saying, Ee San Pe Ee San Kow (or something to that effect), meaning there will always be somebody whom you come across one day who is not going to be cowed by you. Anger begets more anger. Hatred begets more hatred. Violence begets more violence. There is no end to it. The only way to end a spiralling down of events is for us to take stock of ourselves and remember another Chinese saying that for those who seek revenge, be prepared to dig two graves, one for yourself and one for the enemy.

Err...that would be one of the more sensible suggestions to reconsider...

N most likely coming back in the evening...normally by 5...one would have to leave or retire by the end of the daily working time...

While one might be asked to stay back for a bit of overtime work...he or she could always tell the boss to shove it...? :D

CK One, that's the most ideal case but please bear in mind, not all companies (even larger corporations) exercise such flexibility...

You might say watever you wan or even bring it to the labor court, but in certain organizations (even multinational ones), they only consider your attendance to work based on the official working hours stated in your employment contract...

Personally, yes, I agree that work performance should only be measured by productivity & result accomplished despite whether you work from 7 am till 4 pm or 9 am till 11 pm...! ;)

Rachel. You are right, of course, that employers expect us to stick to our terms of employment. It is just sad. In the end, the companies lose out. I am blessed with a boss who is not only a great thinker but one who thinks outside the box. I can even work from home if I do not feel like going into the office. Well, because at the end of the day, I am measured by results - and that is profitability of the company. He will not hesitate to give me the boot if I show a profit of RM121.40 at the end of the financial year.

Not only that. Do you notice how certain people suddenly become all 'interested' in work after 5 pm and when the boss is around? Thus the poor fellow who works like mad from 9 am to 5 pm is considered as disloyal to the company because he goes home at 5 pm when the boss hangs around outside in the general office.

Err...dear Robert:)...like what CKOne:) implied earlier...few got the money in their wallet...rest here got lack of it in theirs...so to begin the day with...those with little money to count on...they would stare out 'empty' thru their cars' windscreen n windows...in search of what others could be lacking also...

But instead...they would normally faced with sparks from others that would trigger each other to vent their own frustrations at one another only...nothing to hold back to...

Only in my 4wheel :D otherwise, i am the meekiest of all the meeks. :D

Most drivers are soooooooooo moderate & forgiving (read as pretend to tune radio, eyes cast downwards, think of family, count money etc) that rude drivers (inclu gucci-glassed aunties with 3rd finger salute) get away with bad manners for lack of enforcement & worst, parental upbringing.

The shock value of potentially meeting a 'road-rage/bully' will hopefully prevent the THOUGHT of being a 'bad driver' BEFORE actually becoming a bad driver....

I have met you personally before and you did not come across as such a person.

Thought some “bug or alien” got to, or into you and changed you completely.

I do agree that there are quite a number of inconsiderate drivers on the road, be they q-jumpers or plain arrogant people but they are still a very small number.

Think about this for a moment:

Do you expect everyone driving, to be absolutely 100% correct in their driving ability everyday, every week, 365 days of the year?

Sometimes it just happens to be an “off” day for whatever reason and we make a mistake whilst driving, does not really make us bad drivers, it just makes us human. So don’t be too harsh on your fellow driver.

As for the arrogant and inconsiderate drivers, imagine if a few of them should meet each other one day on the road. God bless their souls.

good morning Robertec, aiyah what can a 4ft6in, 49kg & not-wearing-underwear-tupai do to anyone. I am a storyspinster, Oops! spinner lah...

But u know in Australia, old ladies in stationwagaon WILL chase you down and give u a good lecture (on couteous driving) should you turned without signalling? Or private homes have police cameras mounted in their fenceless garden to take snap shot of speeding cars (50kph). the house owners maintain these cameras. Or in Germany, should you overtake a car on the wrong side, he can report you and you will get a ticket for reckless overtaking...man, I can go on where 'careless' driving mistakes can bankrupt a person. "thank goodness" this country lacks the enforcement and the drivers' don't-care-attitude.

Guys,

I just want to warn you to be careful of guys tailgating you, not because they might damage your car, but because this is a little known modus operandi for hijacking your car and robbing you.

I have more than once encounter experiences when someone seem to be tailgating me, and after we go through the usual, "you'll never get past me and I'll go around and block you games" the guy will follow you and when you are on a lonely road, he will corner you and rob you.

Fortunately, I knew of this tactic long ago, and I 1) never leave my car to argue with anyone tailgating me. 2) will not hesistate to use the "pit manuever" to wreck the other car and defend myself, 3) am always willing to sacrifice my car and use it as a battering ram to escape these heinous criminals even if it kills them.
