Hi guys,
Can I add on to that question? I wanna build a door to my utility room. There is an opening in the wall just right to fit in a door, so I just have to get a wooden frame and standard size plywood door to fit in.
Does anyone know the frame and door costs? And how much it will cost to install and paint it?
Thanks!

Hi there , when u stated there your door has already gone out of shape , as in colour or the door.If the door is broken i suggest u change it as it might be dangerous.
For your grill , its better u sand paper it , so that the new layer of paint will stick well. Before u apply a new layer of paint , make sure u apply a coat of anti rust paint to protect the grill then proceed to the next step that is painting the grill.
just my 2 cents :o

I change my bathroom from wooden (rotted away) to a plastic one for less than RM80 inclusive of installation. The hardware shop at usj14, next to 7 11.
For a wooden door, u really need to sand before painting. If u use varnish or shellac, do thin the paint before painting. Use a wide brush.... my mom's door was a disaster and I leard a lesson :)
There is also a resident DIY guy. Check the usj wiki pedia... his name alan cheng I think

That's really cheap! I've been asking for quotes to fix up a door for my utility room (which has an door opening, but no door), and the normal plywood door and wooden frame can easily cost up to RM500-RM600 including installation and painting.

There's a good bargain at Jusco Home Centre, single door solid wood for RM99! But of course, don't expect a good quality. For that price, it should be the lowest quality, probably Grade 3. But if it's for utility room, don't see any harm going for that.
Please also check if the door is meant for lacquer or normal paint because the quality is different, depending on your option. To either paint or lacquer it as well as installing the lock set, you can actually get the hardware store to do it for you (since it's just a small job). No point getting skilled workers for that because their wages is based on each trip (eventhough it might be just a small job like fixing a single door!).
If you're thinking of DIY, there'll be different selection in terms of paint or lacquer too. So, do make your choice!

It's still cheaper than the quotes which you got earlier (RM500-600?), right? :-)
There're always ways to trim down unnecessary costs...if you have your own transport (eg. MPV, SUV etc), you can save transportation cost. Otherwise, you can also consider to tumpang friends/neighbours who might be around the area...
Don think you can save the installation part unless you have the tools to DIY. Lockset won't cost you a lot especially if it's for utility room. Local made quality is sufficient. Try to check it out from a locksmith shop located at SS15, few shops away from old GBH showroom.
But you definitely can save on the painting cost. You can simply grab a can of lacquer (few ringgits) and start varnishing it during weekend or whenever you have the time. Consider that as a form of exercise, so you'll find it fun while painting it!
I painted my own bedroom door...it might not be perfect but result is still acceptable. Using lacquer is definitely easier than paint.
What Jusco is offering is definitely cheaper than a lot of places. When I was doing reno for my house, I've checked from a lot of shops (even shops in Klang!) What I have installed at home is grade B quality, slightly better the one in Jusco but mind you, I paid ard RM300 for each single door.
Another place where you can shop around is a warehouse-like hardware store located at the industrial area near Giant. You can find plastic doors, wooden doors, household utensils, tiles...list goes on.
Happy hunting!

Well, that quote included the door frame, install and painting as well... :P
But, I guess the solid door is worth it!
Thanks for the helpful tips!
