Lovers of Melaka satay celup... You no longer need to travel all the way to Melaka to taste the Melaka specialities of satay celup. There's one open in USJ. Located at one of the cornet lot shop houses near the abandoned project of New Gate.

Today, 26th February 2005, is the official launching. Everything is on the house except beers. I've tasted it. YUmmm... Perfect. Exactly like the one in Melaka. Any lovers of satay celup out there?

Absolutely, its definetely worth every penny. I need not to pay a single penny yesterday. Viola!!! Apparently, everything is on the house yesterday. Guess what??? I happened to pass by the area. Nothing was mentioned that everything is on the house. Being a fan of satay celup, upon seeing the banner, I immediately go for it. To my surprise, when I asked for the bill... they told me FOC.... What a day. I thought my ear play tricks on me.. Where got such thing in the world eating for free OOOO

Hi Orchi,

I luurrvvee satay celup, its a must whenever we go back to Melaka.
Now regarding the sauce.......lets put it this way, most people are responsible satay celup eaters. This means...only dip the sticks in to cook then take out and NO dipping in when you've taken a bite.
On the other hand, the sauce is on a fire and is permanently simmering (like steamboat), so whatever germs there will not stand a chance.

orchipalar
28-02-2005, 09:04 AM
Err...In:)...aahh...so you only dip the satay n stuffs into the sauce to be cooked...exactly like steamboat?...but Orchi didn't notice the stove? :)

BTW...one more posting from you...you would receive new recognition liao - Budiman...but Emy has got a lot of catching up to do :D

Yay !!! I finally made budiman after 3 years!

Hi Orchi. The stove is under the table! There's a hole in the middle of the table, with stove at the bottom and a pot full of sauce on top. If you haven't tried it before, then you MUST.
Regarding emy.....he's too engrossed with his online games. Notice that I only post from work and not from home? He hogs the PC at home!

Does anyone know the price....eg: how much does one stick cost? So it's pretty much the same like 'lok lok' except that they use satay sauce?

samurai
28-02-2005, 10:11 AM
errr, KL people call that lok-lok right?
Thought I saw a van in taipan at night selling that.

Anyone know where the mentioned shop at? Near that Pantai Medicare blue shop? Magnum ?

HTH

Me and my wife always wanted to head to her hometown for a stick or two. We normally went for the shop in Jalan Ong Kim Wee. But now, it's in USJ, we can have it everyday!! woohoo!!

I heard satay celup in melaka has a competition of who ate the most stick (anyone can confirm this?). The record was, I think, 60 over sticks. And you have to tell the boss, you wanna break the record. If u broke the record, then it's FOC for you. True ah?

Samurai, it's different from lok lok. In lok-lok, u dip the stick in to a boiling water or soup. In Satay Celup, u dip it in boiling satay sauce. Don't know whether they served roti in the USJ wan, u dip the roti in, and let it absorb all the sauce in...wow!

If u r coming from the main road, it's the second right, then all the way to the end, the corner lot.

HTH, malacca's Jln Ong Kim Wee have 3 stalls and their servings per stick is RM0.60cts each. I was talking to the owner of the shop in USJ, They are gonna charge RM1.00 per stick  but the servings will be twice the size

So if you are gonna start a satay culup eating competition, Firefly here gonna go malacca, I will beat the USJ record easily.... :D

Hey Orchi... not garbage disposal unit lah...including the sticks!!!!

If the servings per sitck is anything like the opening day, you will never get near breaking the record of 60 sticks.BTW, in Malacca, 40 sticks in one sitting per head is quite normal.

Abang samurai, they start by giving you a fresh pot of sauce everytime you start, they then start replenishing the sauce. So no running dry or out :D

Also no need the soyu sauce and wasabi. It's spicy satay sauce lah.

Wah, must be damn long already we didn't go there, 3 shops already? last time there were only 1, almost at the end of the road, and it cost only 40 cents per stick leh.

RM 1 per stick ah? I would prefer smaller portion and lower price, coz can take on more variety mah.

Normally I can only take about 15 sticks only, if really really hungry, maybe 20.

Actually there is also another satay celup at Old Klang Road. It's at the old cinema (now converted to food centre) in front of Yaohan. I don't remember the name.

The stall is on the first floor, and opens from 6:00pm only. Price is RM1 per stick. I think it's a bit high. Didn't have the chance to try, as I was there at about 5pm and they were not open for business.

One time saw a roti canai eating competition....a guy by the name of arnold chew down 11 plain roti canai...on another occasion...the same guy finished first after eating 5 packs of maggie mee(curry)..one pack after another!

60+ sticks of satay celup is amazing...can you see anyone eating 60+ sticks of the conventioanal satay alone?...even that is too much liao... :D

It's in USJ 21. Go along the Persiaran Kewajipan towards Puchong, go straight at the traffic lights at the USJ20-USJ17/18, pass the abandon (?) petrol station with KFC restaurant, then make a left at the first junction (into the USJ21 commercial area), then turn right at the second junction. tried it yesterday, good and comparable to the Melaka's one, but a bit spicy, which we liked. :)

They served new pots of satay sauce to new patrons. In Melaka, it was one pot for all. The restaurant is clean, and spacious. But I think the stove under the tables are a bit dangerous, it was exposed and only fixed with chains.

I agree with concern!!! that the portion is the same as melaka wan, and a bit pricey at RM1. But if u go for the squid, u untung! They skewed the whole squid!! The blackie thing, I thnk that's the kacang. Maybe burnt kacang.

Not much of a variety yet, but i m sure they will add more as they progress. And it's non-halal.

So are we returning? Definitely!!

Having said that, if you think from the other point of view, in another way it might be consider cheap too. You do not have to travel all the way to Melaka to taste satay celup. You save on petrol , tols and not forgetting our precious TIME.

the shop open from wat time till wat time? if i go late, will they serve me with the left over
There's definetely be leftover. I think they start operating from 06:00 p.m. and end the business at 11:00 p.m.

If you go by the price per stick, it's pricy. But the content per stick, then i's ok.

I find their sticks too long. so only 3/4 gets dipped into the sauce to cook thus you end up having to dip it in again  to cook the last bit... spoils the fun.

Maybe should suggest to them to lower the price and shorten the contents per stick.

Still no ice kacang or cendol :(

alamak, we went back yesterday, and they cut the squid to smaller pieces. he he he...Previous nite, they served the whole sotong (white).

but last night, they have cockles! and prawns!

Well, maybe not matching Melaka's price but I thnk if the price is lower and smaller portion, we would be more encouraged to eat more and have more varieties also.

actually the price in melaka is RM0.60 per stick. must understand, overheads in subang/usj/kl is much higher as compared to melaka and you are rite, jadewhite, you do not hv to travel all the wayto mka for this - save on toll charges, petrol...it's not an every day affair as well. you may probably have it like twice a month. i'm sure as stay celup lovers, this is sap, sap sway, man!ppl are willing to pay RM1 and above for lok lok by road side (very low overheads) and dip only in boiling water, whereas satay celup has a special, aromatic peanut gravy which is specially prepared. so, pls, all you satay celup lovers out there, lets continue to patronise this place so that it will stay and we don't hv to go aaalllll the way to mka....anymore

yea, i really sweated like mad last nite, luckily i was sitting outside the shop. Went there last nite, overall was quite nice, except that the price was too pricey :o . i found that the squid(white color) was horrible, guess it wasn't fresh, after dipped in for quite some time, the squid was still very soft. :( somore i took 5 sticks, forced to swallow them all.....wasted rm5 for that. i suggest they make the gravy thicker and more spicy, it was a bit watery  , then will be really 'EAT ji bang' :D . anyone went there last nite, i was sitting at the noisiest table :D .

Does anyone know whether this shop is the same as the one in malacca  coz according to a fren of mine, there is one Capitol in malacca, the price is 80cents/stick  . but the capitol in malacca is run by chinese. i dun think the boss here is chinese, looks like portuguese

Where is "New Gate"? Thx.
