I am here to seek your opinion and advice on the problems that I am facing in my apartment. I purchased this second hand apartment (Goodyear Court) 2 years ago and for the past 1 year and 8 months, I have been haunted
with the water leaking from the upper unit into my toilet and bathroom ceiling. For numerous times, I complained to the owner of the upper unit and the management of the Goodyear Courts, but to no avail. The mgmt told me that the warranty has lapsed and they have no obligations to do anything. Then, I informed the owner of the upper unit, the inconsiderate and
uncivilized neighbour said they would never pay a single cent to fix the problem for me. They even shut the door immediately after seeing it was me again!!
What should i do now? The water mark on wall has emerged and spoilt the wooden ceiling board too! I can't stop the water from leaking into my place unless i get it fixed upstair. Sometimes, after my complaints
the upper unit made a lot of noise by dragging their furniture so that i could hear through my ceiling. I can't bear it anymore...

Need your valuable advice immediately... (i am so regretful to have purchased an apartment!!)

hi wsp,

may i know which goodyear court u in? im frm 5 n have the same problem last time but manage to settle it with some help of the mgnt office personal.

maybe u could ask the mgnt office to help u talk to ur upper unit. if they r the actual owners they might want to do something about it as in the long run it will effect their unit too.

as for the noise, u could complain to the security guards. if this cant help, complain to the mgnt office in written and ask for feedback of what is happening in the unit.

hope this help...

hv a nice day

Hi stefanie,
thanks for your reply. i m fr crt6. for the past one year, i hv been complaining to mgmt. they did come over and did something but did not work. it still leaks .. :( they fed up with me too and i feel the same. then they pushed away the responsibility saying that they hv no obligation to do this as the warranty lapsed. the owner is one kind... i don't see that family face to face anymore...
by the way, did u pay the mgmt? how many times they came to your place to fix it?

Thanks for your advice :)

hi wsp

when it happened to my unit, i ask the mgnt personal 4 help too. same ... they got fed-up with me after many times too cos its never ok. later i've manage to ask the mgnt personal to explain the situation to the upper unit and they argee to fix it. i didnt pay a $ cos they went to the upper unit to do the repair and not in my unit.

if confirm they r d actual owner n not tenent then its easier. leaking into ur unit = leaking in upper unit too, meaning the upper unit is also damage and have to be repair sooner or later. have a word with the mgnt personal, ask them to HELP (not b responsible). OR ELES... i think there is a newly form residents community in court 6... dont know if they are helpful but u can try asking them for advise/support too.

as 4 mgnt fees... got 2 pay every month (3mths bill onces). court 5 different mgnt company oredi since oct 2004 mah. so... no pay = no car sticker+tag = no parking.

do hope u manage to solve the problem soon... ;)

Hi, Stefanie,
this morning i went to see the mgr who is in-charge of the maintenance and he agreed to ask his staff to look into it after CNY. If the upstair owner does not want to co-operate then he will help me to issue letter to him. I hope everything can be settled after CNY.

Oh, u hv heard that a committe has been set up in my court. yes, you are right! I attended the committee's meeting too. So court 5 is now on your own and no more under the GYr mgmt? Is the monthly pymt lesser than what u used to pay last time? How is the upkeeping of the compound? efficient?

By the way, happy holiday.. :)

first of all, welcome to malaysia! and share your problems with us.. :)
u are absolutely right..in every society there are some irritating ppl around, it depends on how 'lucky' u are.. most of the times, we can't change them, that's a very frustrating fact! it takes time to see how this evolves...
for the rubbish on the balcony, maybe u can inform the mgmt or write a note and put it into the neighbour's letter box... (i am not sure whether it works or not...)
by the way, how long hv u been in malaysia? i believe there are still some pleasant experiences too, right? :)
