I have live in USJ putraheights for almost a year now and my hometown is in Penang. My wife and myself really have trouble looking for night hawkers at night. We are so use backhome to come out at night in Penang and easily we can eat a nice hot soup of koay teow theng , wan tan mee, fried oyster, carrot cakes anywhere. Its easy because travelling to those places is close by and varieties.

Over here we have to suffer a bit. Taipan has two restaurant providing hawker food but their food really not good at all. Other places are more a less Cooking Dishes. Puchong has more ,but way out.

sunway also have a few but not good. We were surprised that mamak conquers the night scene but not the chinese hawkers. :(

Its not good to eat too much before you sleep.

There is always 7-11 and instant noodle.

haha instant noodles even worse......better read the ingredient first....my recommend......go to Subang Jaya near the taylor's college / inti .......they have many hawker stalls there open up till quite late......sunway yup....opposite Pyramid got one .....not that tasty but certainly pack with customers.......across the street I mean the one directly across the Pyramid Lion Head.......u wll find hawker stalls there too....but beware...I've seen many pros & ah kua...there cari makan.....

then again.....Puchong.....u will find like what Xweird said...restoran ramai there......used to be quite happening...got one u cha ke store which really taste so good.....but that place ah.......cool down a bit since last few months almost evry day MPSJ raid them for illegally selling fake stuff and overcrowding till covered the road.....what a shame on u MPSJ......always kill people cari makan......no better work to do ah???

Oso u can find one opposite Tesco called Medan Selera .....is a covered legally hawker centre......no roof lah...but have fencing around the entire centre....or else go to Puchong Utama...they have one there too........

Or maybe u want to try Taman Megah, PJ food court.....my fren recoomend there b'coz the environment with all the coconut trees....like Hawaii.....but the food just so so.

 Franky stop eating too much Maggi...no good for hair and health..concern buddy....no insult....just an advice :o

First of all, putraheight is essentially a "dead isolated town", far from shops.
My friend moved out from USJ to puchong jaya because one of the reason is the bad food there in taipan.

Puchong jaya/Puchong kinrara/Tesco area has quite a lot of chinese hawker centres which opens quite late and is much tastier compared with taipan or sunway. I suggest you move to one of those areas if possible. It is nearer KL and you can even go to sri petaling for additional variety.

Puchong kinrara has a few shops that are cheap and very tasty and since the population is mainly chinese, you get a lot of chinese shops there.

Don't buy those places such as Puchong utama, saujana etc as they are too far from shops.

one of my friend living in Subang Jaya for the past few years told me that the reason Subang Jaya was clean and different from other places like PJ and Puchong was because of the controlled hawker centers.

To be frank, Subang is alot much better than other places. I have seen big rat and cockroaches running around the drain in PJ , Penang etc and even worse people are sitting near to the drain to eat.

But in the end , i don't know why Singapore can handle much more better than us. Why?

1) Rules are good
2) governement did a great job providing good amneties like dustbin and strategically located. I guess many more i can't describe here
3) People behaviour. Too many Foreigners came to work in mamak store nowadays and they are bringing in their own cultures. throwing rubbish and not observing proper hygene.
4) and because of the tidak-apa attitude of the government dept.

Many hawkers are not wearing hat and also smoking . So where are the enforcement?

But anyway the new food court in Metropolitan college should be the first to have all the proper amneties around but hopefully it will be built at other places as well .

Hackwire,

The singaporean government is much more efficient than the malaysian govt, this is a well known fact. Another fact is that their society is richer and can afford more manpower to regulate.

If you want to have clean food etc, go to the restaurants. Personally, I don't think much of the food in taipan, expensive and not tasty.

Surely, you can't expect to have clean food but very cheap food, right ?
Cleanliness has a price to it. Nobody in malaysia wears a hat just for 3 per bowl. Some don't even clean their hands after handling dirty dishes.

If u r not sure whether the food u eat is clean or not.......cook at home and set ur mircrowave oven to 3000 deg. celcius....all kind of living organism will evaporate at the touch of a button.......worth trying but not so enjoyable anymore rite...??? :D

I myself seen the way they cook.....put the ingredients beside the smelly longkang and oops.......they accidently drop the fish onto the road.....guess what.......they put back the fish into the frying pans and serve it to u ....who thot wah smell so nice......taste so good ....and the sauce so thick........... ........sure u want to try the fish ??? hahaha :p just act donno and continue eating.....went back home n ur stomach crumbling.....u say wahhhhh.....y the heck so painful one ah??........must be ur stomach got air or something...........after few days u went back to the same store and saw how they cook.........ahem.........sure u dare to go for another round of chup....bluop....putt....dupp.....at your nice shining toilet........n u spend the entire day.....scrubbing your toilet bowl for that........hihihaha :D :D .......

Think again

Anyway.....s long s the food taste good.....i don't really care how the food was cook.......just act stupid...... :p .......think of it cook by the high class restaurant chef...who while cooking his hand was holding a cigarette butt and the ashes falls into the food he cook.....then he kind of want to lau sai liao :o and go to the toilet and make cokelat kek.........then come out from toilet he straight away continue cooking without washing his hand......(just remind me of a case when I happen to witness a mamak stall roti canai maker whereby his hand full of tahi at the fingernail and he selamba buat his roti canai.......make me vomit immediately....ueewwwkkkkk  ).....then he told his partner........I cook this dish veli nice eh......people alwiz say ho liao.....just wondering which people he meant.....his family ????

Then the customers ask him.....what ho liao u put inside .....taste funny but beh pai............taste once want another time lo........if only that fellow noe inside story.......so what the difference btween hawker stalls n high class restaurant.........or both just the same but the packaging itself seems more reassuring that nice big restaurant certainly provide 1st class cleanliness!!???

Is that so :p ???

For u to choose

ng, the price concern has nothing to do with how clean the food is prepare or served. Every country has their own currency different but doesnt mean that Singaporean Food are more expensive than ours thus they are better in maintainance.

Not all Singaporean are rich too. I think the city part is clean but the outer part also the same. I believe is the level of education in school and the place people came from. So actually the choice is ours to make and to complain it to the right authorities, worse of all , avoid it. that is why this forum is great to locate good food.

kidding lah , im not a pro but my experience in food started long time ago in Penang and I have been a food conneseiur myself . I love food so much and observation is my skill. i have ate at the dirtiest corner before ..want to know ?

i have seen dogs peeing the bowl and plates left on the floor next to a tree. this is the habit of the kopi fellow when the hawkers did not clear the table for him.

oh so gross!

you sure u want me to tar pau from penang , my friend? What do you want to eat. I will do my best to tar pau for you. But cold food won't be that nice anymore lah.

There are less Chinese hawker outlets operating late nite these days coz the culture is to hang out at mamak stalls!

Notice the differences in culture between a mamak stall and our usual Ah Lim Kopi tiam??

- In Mamak stall, you can sit till wee hours of the morning, with one order of teh tarik! In Kopitiam, you will definitely get a glare from the Towkay-soh if you occupy their seats longer than necessary. Or some customers would be waiting behind you for you to finish up that morsel of kerang in your curry laksa and once, you stand up, they instantly grab your seat!

- In Mamak stall, one usually dine alfresco - out in the open air, under the starry sky with cool evening breeze blowing away. Most of the time, kopi tiam has their tables in the shop - too cramp or warm for one's comfort! Except for Ming Tien in Sunway lah.

- In Mamak, we have the huge TV screen displaying the soccer game of the nite! That's why we hang out there! Can cheer "GOAL!!!" loudly and no one will complain!! Kopitiam will have Wah Lai Toi programmes on most of the time!! Unless one is a fan of HK TVB's drama series, one would be lost watching it!

So, see why Mamak stalls are mushrooming!!!! Becoz they have all the better environment to draw us there lohhhhh................

hackwire from Penang. Waaa...so many Penang eh-lang! Looks like all of Penang has migrated to SJ!! Perhaps PC Yeoh should start a Penang Association here in SJ. Sure get plenty of support one.

Anyway, hackwire, no night hawkers good what. Like Franky said, you'll probably live more healthily! I know lah you are looking for something like Love Lane. Plenty of stalls and eat, eat eat. Everytime I go back....very bad. Tend to overeat and afterwards really dont feel very good. Nowadays, I have to control like mad when back in Penang.

Hihi :D Roly,

U may be quite rite on this but then again:

Hawker stalls:
1) Also have big TV screens nowadays with Astro fix up. Hence, if u really r into football, then just tell the owner that there r live football matches n u really luv to watch. I bet they will not hesitate to bow down to ur request.

2) Boast of various different food n snacks.........u might not find it in a Mamak stall.

3) I doubt that they really will chase u off if u stay too long.......since they have no right whatsoever to a particular table or chair....since it is own by the entire centre.........i think u mix up a hawker centre n a hawker stalls inside those restaurant.......am i rite here???

4) As what u said, Ming Tien at Sunway and maybe Medan Selera Everyday at Puchong,.......it is already a norm to have open air hawker centre.....those u found inside shops usually don't open till late night.....so it should not even be called night hawker but day hawker ....notice this two places I mentioned usually start up during night time.......pls tell me if i m wrong.....

5) In case that u still prefer mamak stalls......then pls make sure u belanja all of us during the next TT sessions.....hehehe :D :p

Food for thot

Patrick .......u might want to visit those victims from yesterday earthquake ..........cut down on ur food n donate some of ur monthly salary to them.......maybe it is good for ur diet........

In the time of good fortune......one should alwiz think of the poor and not lavishly spend on oneself since life alwiz runs through a cycle ................who noes when things don't go good on us.......out of a sudden someone just extend their helping hands to us.........it may seem like a lifeline......... a quote from my fren "The more u spend (on others), GOD will send"........pls remember beauty is not on the surface but deep down inside ur heart.........

if u can do that u have truly achieve success.......the greatest happiness is like Heaven and the greatest misery is like Hell.......so it means all of us have gone through Heaven & Hell....... :)

gnehkgnep, your assumption "must be a mirror image of u when u r young except than I look better" is probably correct. Too bad I dont look as good as you! ;-(

However, as for "y not spend some time doin some volunteering job"...ha ha...gotcha there. I probably have done and am still doing more volunteering work than you have done in your lifetime! ;-) Ok...ok...for the record, yes I do quite a bit of welfare and community work. I hate to blow trumpet, but take my word. I do, do.....ok?

Rgds.
