Umno division leader charged with assault

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno leader, who is a Datuk and Justice of Peace (JP), was charged with assaulting a housing developer.
Datuk Roslan Mat Darus, 46, is alleged to have voluntarily caused hurt to Muhammad Nasaruddin Ab Rais, 39, by punching him on his head and pushing him down.
He is accused of committing the offence at Restoran Mydina in Jalan Pinang at about 1.55am on April 30.
If found guilty, he could be jailed up to one year or fined a maximum RM2,000 fine or both under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
Roslan, who got his Datukship from Malacca recently, claimed trial.
Magistrate Aizatul Akmal Maharani imposed a RM1,000 bail with one surety on Roslan and fixed March 23 next year for trial.
