Err...hoping that Orchi could get some assistance to solve this problem....thanks... :)

Err....lately while surfing....the monitor would show fine lines or dots all over the display....n most times followed by the system would be hanged completely...where Orchi would have to reset it to reboot again....n the same problem would come back again n again.....

Err...did some checking on the system properties...under system resources....it would normally happens when the percentage is lower than 80%....

Err..Orchi's PC running on Window 98....only got 127Mb of RAM only.....does this have anything to do with it?.....harddisk are constantly being scanned and defragmented....without much problem....

Err..Orchi has also tried many times to check for virus....but none seems to pop up.....

So....what could be wrong with the system?

First thing that come to mind is the possibility that you have a hardware problem with either the mother-board or the graphic-card.

By the way, I hope you know that you need to update the virus definitions file before scanning because new viruses can't be detected if the definitions file is out dated.

Have you tired AdAware? I have given instructions to Brown at another thread. Sometimes spywares do cause display problems but not common.

Err..dear Chang...thanks for the reminder....Orchi has exactly what you have ordered for Brown....it is working like a charm...ahem....as far as ridding adwares or spywares is concerned....no problem.. :)

Then again...come to think of what you mentioned also...the problem started when Orchi installed NAV ver 2004...which might be RAM hungry...err...is it possible that the system is short of RAM....?

Later Orchi shall try to uninstall NAV...n reinstall with GriSoft free anti virus software....to see if there is any improvement or changes or not....

Thanks again.

brother orchi,
before u uninstall NAV2004, before u install grisoft antivirus, pls note that grisoft is going to discontinue the support for AVG v6 free version from 31/12/2004, this includes the update of virus definitions.....

Is you VGA running well? Is it plugged properly in VGA / PCI slot?
How about your monitor? These are the thing that you have to confirm before you can proceed to the next step.

NAV2004 is not adviseable to work with Windows 98 especially your RAM 128MB. What can I guess is your RAM specs is PC100. NAV2004 definitely will hogging your memory (eat your memory)

My suggestion is to "Clean Uninstall" that software that is remove it from registry as well. Further more can you give me the reason why you install NAV2004?

Hrm..I think you should try Mc Afee. It is more better than NAV2004

P/s: My personal rate to NAV2004 is 3 out of 10..easy to kill, easy to hacked. Just because the name, people keep in using it.Soooo pity.

-i am just newbie here, correct me if i am wrong- :o

Is your PC full of cards? Memory upgrades? Harddisks?
Is the space inbetween cards and harddisks small?

Most probably is hot and the cards/memory giving you problem.
Make sure your pc is well ventilated, inside as well. :D
