I see you're against competition then...exactly what TM wants. You're just like a Microsoft evangelist claiming that Linux is the big threat...

JEFF OOI says: Competition boosts quality of service is a market force that none can put a stop to. Hence, I most welcome Jaring and even Airzed to come into Subang Jaya to serve the community. But I have personally suffered so many occasions of lousy customer service from Maxis (pulling out of dialup is one of the many) that I think they have to work double hard to win back my confidence. Maxis may think the cherry on the branch is low enough for them to pick in Subang Jaya. I would want to see how many are satisfied customers of Maxis Wireless broadband in Subang Jaya. Just put up your hands.

YOu don't have to repeat the same mistake others have made before you. Just ask around.

Jeff,
Another point for Maxis doing wrong..The advertising agent has planted
so many boards around SJaya.."MAXIS Broadband" but I do not see MPSJ permit number on it..have u seen it?
All adverts must have MPSJ kelulusan, as far as I know.

Satish,

I was told that the boards are actually not merely for advertising. In order to provide their wireless internet to homes, they must have these 2.4Ghz transmitters nearby. They look like little black softballs. I was also told that these transmitters haven't gotten any approvals from CMC in terms of how it effects the health of people who are exposed to it. Am finding out more about these. Later tonight me and some lads around here going to look at thos boards. Now too tired ... typing this almost made me pass out from fatigue. First day of Puasa is normally the worst time for me ....

Take it easy.. slow the heart rate down...1.5 hrs to go..u can make it..

I will also look out for the "black balls" too!
Don't get mixed up wz my wireless broadband dish ..m using 2.4 Ghz dish on top of my roof pointing to Wisma UEP. (But its not black, aluminium colour!)

Selamat Buka Puasa. :D

I wish they have done their homework before planting their advertisements everywhere. When I enquired about any service to USJ 12, they said NO. So what is the point of placing three of their mini billboards here. Should I take it down as what Satish said they did not have the permit and also for misleading information - making people syiok for no reason. I think their game plan is to throw a spanner onto the poor blue hippo. I spoke to the boss of Proxus Communication who happened to be my friend, (hate to say this but it looks like everybody is my friend eh) that he might throw in a surprise on top of the TM net promotion. I have studied the various packages and I consider the best package is the RM 66 unlimited access but you need to buy the modem which cost less than RM 180.00. Can also get secondhand one. The simple reason is in the event of a warranty claim, you can easily bring your own modem to your friendly neighbourhood IT shop (can be Proxus at USJ 9) and get a replacement without a hassle whereas if the modem is supplied by TMnet, God bless you man. You will have a 1Mb withdrawal syndrome for weeks.

This is not true. I bought a WAP (Wireless Access Point) on behalf of my friend when I signed up for Streamyx at Proxus USJ 9. The WAP went kaput in less than 2 weeks and when I sent it back for replacement, I'm told to wait for at least a week to get a replacement.

My dear members,
The thread is about the Streamyx do. I don't think JO meant it as a Maxis punchup. So everybody backoff the sidetrack please and talk about streamyx.

Ormuzh,
this is not evangelism. Speaking for myself, I assure you I am very much a Jaring supporter but since I got on to Streamyx, I have not had any major downtime. I can't complain. But I will definitely check out any alternative service. I am a consumer and I support the one that is best value for my money. At the moment, Streamyx is it. Tomorrow? I will see. This is consumerism - we have a choice.

Thank you Jeff - I will see if I can make it as well.

mackzulkifli
15-10-2004, 05:48 PM
It will get there. Trust me. They are emplacing it in stages. Heck, most of the cellular towers they have aren't even approved anyway. But then if we subscribe to the service, they put forth a motion to CMC that says the residents have given the product a great response, the commision will approve it and when a small party complains about it, minorities who are against technology trying to stunt a communities growth.

This is business strategy they don't teach at uni. And it's effective. I am sitting back and watching. It's good for a case study at the very least.

Oooops, I talked too soon and I am reading this too late. My friend vchong beat me to it and already replied to jericho. I am pleased that he has committed to resolve his problem immediately. If not, I will terminate my friendship with him! I am now at this outlet and finally signed up for the Streamyx service which I should have done ages ago. While here I managed to get some of my friends who also have the same procrastination attitude as me to sign up and they were all rewarded with a FREE Lexmark colour printer worth RM 188.00. Not from me but from Proxus. They are offering this printer to the first 20 customers who sign up the RM 88.00 per month package only. Current promotion is ZERO entry for a 1Mb (wef 1 November) always ON connection - No Registration Fee, No Connection Fee, No Installation Fee and they supply you with a FREE ADSL modem. You just do nothing except to sign along the dotted line. So hurry up to this place before the printers run out. I am leaving this place now.

PS: This posting is done using one of the terminals at Proxus premise

Jeff, you are the Boss. Whatever service provider works for you will work for us. Orchi has jest signed up for the RM 88.00 package. He gets Free Modem and a FREE LEXMARK COLOUR Printer. And this comes with a 1MB access. So Satish, minus the damn big dish on your roof that cost RM 488.00 or whatever you pay for it with a mere 512Kb or less access speed rate, EAT YOUR HEART OUT.

Quarterback, to answer your question, TMnet will charge you RM 75.00 wherever you want to move to except to Timbukto where you will get not only free relocation but a send off party.

To PC Yeoh, hope I am not bossing around :D

At this juncture xDSL seems to perform better than any wireless broadband technology that have been brought into Malaysia thus far.

Webbit has its initial problem in One Utama, Just because one nerd downloaded 5Gb of Kazaa in one day, it screwed up the entire shared- bandwidth network.

I have also been informed of a Maxis wireless broadband subcriber who can't get access in her house, Hope she has received her refund after one month?

I have used ADSL Streamyx in the last two years, problems-free except in early 2003 when there were teething problems.

Look at Satish, he's breezing with his Wireless Streamyx... but that's also because there were about 60 people sharing the wireless network... including TM Net CEO in USJ5... go figure!

I speak basically through personal experience and my readers' feedback via Screenshots. I am not trying to dictate anything.

But if credit is due - even to Streamyx, we must give it due credit.

But if you support Streamyx, please support Victor Chong at Clicker USJ9... your neighbourhood Streamyx CASO. Don't have to go elsewhere lah...

Err..abang Satish :) ...with the free printer(lexmark)...2 things possible....err...1st being having charity in mind....ahem....2nd being Orchi could also opt for not to use it at all.... :)

Err...as for the monthly charges...2 things....1st being...now Orchi pays 8800sens permonth..for 1Mb max...err...or relatively say normal speed of 900000bps...ahem..anything less than that would still be far out....than yours...

Ahem...2nd being....Orchi could choose to downgrade to paying 6600sens permonth....for 512000bps....plus Orchi would be sleeping soundly that Talikom...won't come asking for the free modem or the printer....back from Orchi....

Err..all in...Orchi would still be bragging(sp?)...for having killed a couple more birds with one >>-----> :D .....Eat Your Hearts Out!

Bought a brand new Lexmark Z605 at PC Fair on 19/4/2004 for RM 29.00 without ink & USB. Original color cartridge (No. 26) = S$48.00 (RM 105.00) and black ink (No.16) = S$35.00 (RM 77.00) at Sim Lim Square. Price of the replacement cartridge really kills. Some shops are also giving away the printer for free (PC bundle sale). On the plus side, print-out is quick & clear too.

My Speed test at ( http://www.bandwidthplace.com) shows 374 kbps which is fantastic. But actual up / downlink is so-so !!!

Looking forward to 1/11/2004 for TmStreamyx to upgrade to 512kbps foc next month (Unlimited package - RM66.00).

I was told by the Big Bird that all those MAXIS billboards put up do no have a advertisement permit. MPSJ merely fined them and the culprit is paying those compound using their petty cash. The question I want to ask MPSJ tomorrow is how often are they issuing those compounds and why are they tolerating those big boys flaunting the law? Why aren't MPSJ issue a demolition order (let us call in the Demolition Man). It seems that there are two set of rules here. I am also very curious how much is the compound. Must be not much as it becomes so affordable that I wouldn't mind paying rather than waiting for their approval.

I have a good laugh at Orchi. I can now consider myself as the greatest saleman second only to the guy who was able to sell a Singer fridge to a Pak Cik staying in the kampung with NO electricity. The Pak Cik is currently using the fridge as a wardrobe to keep his clothes and anxiously waiting anxiously for TNB to supply electricity to his kampung. For the Subang Jaya equivalent, you have Orchi signing up for Streamyx for his house when he doesn't even have a PC or notebook at home. So before the TMnet guys come to his house and burst out laughing (gila punya orang. Takda computer mahu pasang Streamyx. Mugkin dia ingat ini Honda punya kereta Streamx) he called me to recommend a notebook. Due to my contact, I could get it cheaper by another 8% off the advertised price but unfortunately it was out of stock so our friend just grab the Acer Desktop and swallow the bait which the other end of the line was held by a SYT.

By the way Cindy, we heard of two wrongs don't make one right. Also even a robber can sue the victim if he is injured while in his victim's premise robbing him. I have already filed in my complain and in 3 days' time, I will follow up with them. This one cannot tahan one. People not respecting the law.

Am I reading the post correctly that TMNet is upgrading the 384kbps to 512kbps FOC as at 1/11/2004. Is this applicable to existing users or do we have to sign up for this upgrade. My family is one of the earlier people who sign up with Streamyx, we are now paying RM77 monthly for unlimited access 384kbps. Yea RM11 more than the current package but the catch is that we are renting the modem from them and they are liable to whatever damage happens to the modem. So far TMNet has been very accommodating in providing new modem FOC everytime the lightning strike and toast our modem. This package is so good that they stop offering to new subscribers. :p

Hello Pets=Friends,
As published in Star n/papers last week, upgrading TmStreamyx from 384kbps to 512kbps wef 1/11/2004 is automatically done by them. Just relax and observe the increase in speed. If no difference, then call 1 800 9515 to inquire the problem.

You heard it right. Come November 1, the 384K access is dinosaur. All will be ugraded to 512K without doing anything or paying a sen. In your case, you do nothing and hey viola, come November 1, your access is 512K. There are 2 options open to you should you want the 1Mb access.

1) Keep the current modem and let TMnet to continue maintaining the modem but you have to top up RM 22.00 for the 1Mb access.

2) You surrender the current modem that is leased to you by TMnet and purchase your own modem (RM 99.00 for a USB connection) and maintain it yourself and pay only RM 11.00 more for the 1Mb access. In this option, you have the flexibilty to buy a router and configure it to support 4 users or even go wifi. Of course, this will cost more buy we call it Freedom to configure.

And here is my crooked way to have your cake and eat it. Cancel your current subscription (provided you have completed the one year contract) and sign up as a new subscriber for the current promo of RM 88.00 for 1 MB access with a FREE modem and a FREE printer. The downside is there will be a disruption of service. Call me at 012-2995330 and I can arrange with my friend Victor in USJ 9 who is doing the Streamyx promotion to kow tim you.

There might be some confusion on the streamyx speeds.

Modem speeds is in bits per second whereas most web browser programs give speeds in bytes per seconda and there are 8 bits to a byte.

Streamyx speed is given in kbit/s. Thus when your say your streamyx speed is 512 kbit/s, it is actually 64 kbyte/s and 1024 kbit/s is equivalent to 128 kbyte/s.

Huangaun, if you can give me a call at 012-2995330, I can help you resolve your problem. I have figure a way out. Recently, TMnet has increased their streamyx capacity and is now able to provide streamyx services very promptly. This also has to do with the company where you subscribed the service. The three friends I introduced to Proxus Communication which did their promo last weekend got theirs within 4 days counting weekend as well. In fact they are too efficient so much so that I have to slow them down. Look at what happen to one of them - the good old Orchi who got caught with his pants down when streamyx people wanted to install the service and our friend still does not have his PC ready. His other PC is eveready. Orchi is that kind of easy customer who will even buy an educational insurance policy for his kid even before it is born. Hold your horses all insurance agents, this one belongs to me.

For RM 3,000+ for a Pentium 5 processor is damn bloody cheap especially when INTEL has not made any announce of any of its Pentium 5 microprocessor. What people have is just called 15 inch wide monitor but for Orchi, his is 15 inches long and was let down when his LAN is only 10/100 Mbps. So long yet so small. Aisay man, are you talking about the computer monitor or something else which in both cases, I shall give you a standing ovation. You are amazingly not in the stoneage anymore. You are out of this world. I know Orchi is in trouble ..... real trouble when the SYT was trying to sell him the Acer PC. She went for the kill and floored poor Orchi after just 10 minutes of sweet talk. I knew he was not paying any particular attention to the PC specs when Orchi asked her "Are you sure you are only giving me a 15 inch long monitor." I nearly rolled on the floor with laughter but luckily got the hell out of there before the SYT gave him two tight slaps. Luckily he managed to diffuse the situation by confirming his order and now poor Orchi got a lot of explanation to do when the wife sees the PC which is going to be delivered tomorrow. The wife is going to demand "And may I know how this "15 inch long" term come into the picture in describing this simple monitor?" Poor Orchi

Intel Pentium 5 - 1 (One)Mb Cache 400MHz HT Technology supporting Processor

How do you read above if you are well versed in IT? We read it as "Pentium 5 dash (the dash is use to separate it from the number 5 as you now on want to describe the 1 Mb of cache memory. The numeric one is re-emphasized by spelling it as One within bracket and we understand that this processor has a 1Mb of Cache memory and it is running at 400Mhz using the HT technology. So who is laughing now. If you want to trick us, you should phrase it this way.

Intel Pentium 5 - 1 with 1Mb Cache 400MHz HT Technology supporting Processor

Want to trick also must know how lah but at 12 mindnight, you are excuse lah.

Ahem....then again...how sure are you that Orchi hasn't gotta freaking tiny PDA..or notebook enbedded into Orchi's anatomy....err...which was exactly as you have nicely described how Orchi...err....would connect it to the modem to access...the internet?..

My vision very good..except now..its giving me Panaroma view as a temporary measure..shud be back to normal in 4 weeks.

I read the specs as Pentium 5 ..wz 1 MB processor cache..FSB of 400Mhz
inclusive of HT...I thought itu processor belakang rumah sendiri bikin punya! even Intel pun tak ada..

Itu modem is for fax use hah...?

yr setup too expensive for me..that specs can get for RM1.9K at Lowyat Plaza! but yrsone is ACER woh...!

All things being equal, how fast would a 1MB line streamyx (amidst sharing with others) line be? For example, how long would it take to download a 4.5MB MP3 song? Thanks.

kwgoh
22-10-2004, 02:07 PM
Hi Cindy,

If you have streamyx speed of 1 Mbit/s that is 2x512kbit/s =1024kbit/s and you can download 128kBytes of data in 1 second. So if you download a 4.5MB of MP3 that is 4.5MBx1024=4608kBytes of MP3. Time to dowload wil be 4608/128= 36 sec. if speed is perfect and constant at 1Mbit/s (not sharing, one user on the line)

But for Orchi's calculation, it could be 1MB = 1 MByte/s and of course 4.5MB of MP3 = 4.5MB xMP (3)= 13.5MBMP=13824KBMP=1415576BMP=4.5sec lah! Right Orchi?

For those who wants to know whether your area has Streamyx service or not, SMS me at 012-2995330 your fixed line phone number to me and I can get my friend to check it out. Please bear in mind that not all Streamyx must have a fixed line. If no line, subscribe to the wireless one. But don't sms me your hand phone number lah bruder. I understand the wireless one is available to residents in USJ 2 -11. Arrgggg, mine is USJ 12 so a little bit out of range but they said if I still want the wireless like satish with a wide smile as his is 512K and came cheap, I need to move my house just 25 meter nearer to the main road dan baru dapat signal. I could have tried but looking that it is a big hassle, I decided to go for Streamyx via my fixed line and they are coming tomorrow after having submitted just 5 days ago. Efficient service.

Hello Romi O,
Welcome back, I think I have not seen your post quite some times already, about 4 to 5 months?

Hi Orchi, I am new and I think my age is not too far from yours, are you pretending as you don't know anything about PC? Still curious where and how you send your post if you don't have a PC at home. Maybe you are someone next to an PC expert (I mean stay next to), hehehe.....
AC point? just buy an extension cord with at least 4 gang, recommend the one that has lightning protection!
Don't forget to send your first post to USJ.com with your P5-1! :)

Interesting thread.
Actually as a long time 384 subscriber (with 77 package, leased modem) I would be interested to upgrade to 512 (and hence the 1 MB free upgrade) but not to the RM99 but for the RM88 and willing to get my own DSL "modem". Last time I asked at a Streamyx promo, TMnutz refused my request for a switch. Perhaps they'll allow it this time? Or perhaps I'll contact PCYeoh ;)
Btw in Subang Jaya, I am experiencing a "downgrade" with slow connections. I guess Terrorkom is "tweaking" the Streamyx. The main problem is very slow upload time and lag when surfing. There seems to have been an improvement the last two days.

Palmdoc,

Am also a 2 yr old "RM 77 package" with Streamyx.

Visited TM clickers @ taipan, and was kinda upset that new customers would get the 512 package at RM 88 with a FREE modem, when customers like us - the old once - would have to pay RM 99 !!

The price of loyalty !!!

The option suggested by the counter - cancel your line - lose your username - and apply again.

palmdoc
23-10-2004, 04:08 PM
Yup. Pretty ridiculous. I am not asking for a free modem, just a switch to theRM 88 and I will get my own modem. Why force us to switch to the RM99 leased modem package instead?
Pretty inflexible I think.

I was at Clickers this morning to get my modem and I have checked and counter check with them about your problem and this is what they told me. Those on the RM 77 + modem leased by TMnet is allowed to migrate to the RM 88 service for 1Mb access but they are not getting the free modem. Streamyx promotion of a free modem is for new subscribers only.

In the case of palmdoc, he can opt for the RM 88 package with 1Mb acess but he has to return the modem to TMnet and purchase his own which he said he is more than willing. TMnet will have nothing to do with your modem after that. So why not contact Clickers again and quickly convert your existing package to the 1Mb access.

In the case of Simon Tan, the RM 99 includes the modem which is fully maintained by TMnet. This means that for an extra of mere RM 11.00 a month, TMnet will provide you with a modem everytime it fails or struck like lightning. Those new subscribers given the free modem will enjoy the first year maintainance free (under the warranty scheme) but the following year, they are on their own. TMnet will not offer their maintenance service even if they want to top up. On a different note talking about rewarding loyal customers. Just look at Astro. Their first batch of custmers paid RM 1,450.00 for their satelite dish and today's promo, it is only RM 199.00. They are screwing their 8-10 years loyal customers

PS: Clickers is at USJ 9, the Subang Business Centre and NOT Taipan.

Hi Satish,
Thank you very much :)
Do you mean you don't need a Telephone line (copper wire) and you don't have to pay for the phone rental? Your modem is connected directly to the Microwave that point to Telekom, but from your PC you still use the Erthernet RJ45 or USB to connect to the modem?
As far as I know some telephone is using the so call RILL access (Radio In Local Loop) that is your telephone will connect to a "black box" and from the box it connect to the antenna, that "black box" is actually a "transceiver" like your mobile phone (but operating on different system and frequencies).

If I know there is such service from TMnet Streamyx, I think I should disconnect my phone line and save RM26+5% tax. I retain the phone line is because of Streamyx connection.

Hi All,

I was, I thought the lucky few but now I think the unlucky MANY, who signed up for Streamyx. RM77 with modem, what a bargain! The modem they gave me is branded Kasda. So I happily bought my WiFi router and connected everything. Arrgh the modem doesnt work with my Prolink router. Called Prolink Customer Service, they said they never heard of this brand of modem. Suggested that I change to ZTE. The rest of the story is all too familiar. Called Streamyx "Don't Care About" Customer Service.

Me: Hello, I cannot get your modem to work with my router.
Streamyx: Sorry, sir according to out T&Cs, blah, blah, blah, we are only responsible for the modem, if it works, too bad! Router is not our problem.
Me: Dont your subscribers use routers in conjunction with your modem?
Streamyx: Sorry, we are not aware of this! We are only responsible for the modem.
Me: Can I change the modem I received just two days ago to ZTE, which is proven to work?
Streamyx: Sorry, you cannot change. Please read our 100 page T&C.
Me: So what do I do?
Streamyx: Sorry we cannot advice you. We are only responsible for the modem.

Conclusion: This is the reason why Streamyx users should switch to Maxis or whichever company that tells the Upper Management to actually use their brains to understand the market and how ppl user Broadband.

I bought:
Prolink 4 port/Wireless - RM230
DLink NIC Card - RM26
Prolink Wireless CardBus - RM70

You can get DLink 714+ (with Print Server) for RM30 more and get 22 Mbps instead of 11 Mbps.

These are 802.11b, if you have a bigger budget go for the 802.11g, sort of overkill unless you need the speed and can achieve it. :)

a) click on Start (bottom left button on screen)
b) point mouse at MyComputer (option on top right column of popup menu)
c) click on RIGHT mouse button when pointing at MyComputer (=rightclick)
d) on the popup menu that appears, click on "Properties"

The info box that appears will tell you what system yr Pc is using eg Windows XP and whether it has Service Pack 2 (this is actually important to have for better security against virus attacks). Right down there you should see some info on the processor for example

Orchi...
one more thing. Since your PC is an Acer, it means the WinXP is legal. If you see a popup that asks you to register WinXP, please do so. I don't know if it is any different now but in the past when XP was first introduced, all users need to register online within 6 months otherwise yr Pc stops working ! Happened to one of my bosses who ignored the popups until he got locked out after 6 months. Furthermore, Norton Antivirus is operational for 3 months for free. After that you need to pay to get an annual licence for future upgrades.

I presume that yr PC is set to check for upgrades online for NAV and Windows. If the updating is not automated, please confirm that you agree to any updates for WinXP especially. You will need to accept the fact that Windows will need constant patching online whenever Microsoft finds any loopholes in their system. By the way, you will get SP2 through this online update system but that is a big download. Since you are having 24hr and 1 Mb/s Streamyx, no problem lah.

One warning, until you get SP2, yr Pc is open to online abuse from trojans and viruses. One aspect of SP2 is a better firewall for WInXP which prevents trojans from creeping in .....

Ahhhh.... just when you thought everthing is peachy, there are a lot of things to worry about when you get online to the web. There are monsters out there on the net worst than yr regular snatch thieves in USJ. ;)

Furthermore, Norton Antivirus is operational for 3 months for free. After that you need to pay to get an annual licence for future upgrades.

There is a way around this limitation. Uninstall NAV and manually delete all NAV and its related registries in the registry (at your own risk) and also directories of NAV and Symantec. Reinstall NAV and you get another 3 months of usage.

Man, that will be one big belanja if any one of you want to learn how to do that !! ;) Anyways, it isn't so expensive to pay for the good services of Norton.

Orchi gets his Streamyx PC

Wah Orchi..so now yr Pentium 4 containing Hyper Technology..! can play DVD one..u know..!
Sound can come out frm 4 speakers..2 in front nn 2 at the back..

KWGoh,

My wireless Streamyx does not use copper lines..From my PC..containing a network card..it goes up to the roof box using lan cable. There is a transceiver working at 2.4 ghz sending/receiving data from the telecoms network at HSBC Building.

KWChang is rite..I cannot use this link to call/talk to others on the Telecoms PTSN exchange. Therefore u can get this Streamyx service even if yr hse does not have a telefone line.
Hope that clarifies the setup.

CHeers!

Hi Satish,

Now I am clear regarding your wireless srreamyx, thank you. :)

But beware the router may/may not work with your modem.

:) Fatalshak,
Thank you for providing information on routers. I actually have a Aztech NA3000 with 4 ports (cable) router connected to 2 PCs and an old notebook, due to I have some cables with me and 1 of the PC and my notebook have the LAN connection, I just bought this modem.
Now I bought a notebook with WIFI and 1 regret why not buying the router with both cable/wireless port.
I advice those who plan to buy a router, even you don't need WIFI at the moment, it is recommanded to buy the one like Fatalshak use, just different of arround RM30 - 50 and you won't regret. :)
Of course if you buy those wireless router with 802.11a/b/g will be the best, but I think for home use 802.11b is good enough and 802.11b is the most commonly use at the moment.

!everybody! lets go "Streamyx"

Err...Jericho :) ...longtime no see...yes..you are right...this is supposedly be a max. 1 Mbps access offered by Streamyx...n you are right also...the guys from Streamyx who came to install it...n later claim that it is supposedly be 1 MBytes per second...must have been obviously mistaken :D

Err..Satish :) ...ahem...lasttime Orchi owned a personal computer..personally..err...it was something lika 23 odd years ago...ahem...antique wat..priceless! :D

Ahem...here were the brief specs under the hoot...

Nav200x is a very bad AV product. Try switching to the corporate edition (version 9 latest atm).

If you find Norton to be a real hog, you could always try the free AV from Grisoft
http://www.grisoft.com/

ps: All 'Intel inside' fans here. What about getting some 'Authentic AMD' too? :D

Disgusted

Is it possible that your setup was mis-configured? Best get a tech to look into it before writing off your investment or paying more.

One must understand that telco service provider is focus on delivering their service which is their core business. Hardware integration of equipment at customers' site is not their core strength. They cannot be like Baskin Robbins offering you 31 flavours. Can you imagine the task of supporting such flexible broadband ........ in this case I would label it as rubberband service where customers start to mix and match with multiple hardware vendors and then expect TMnet to make it work. TMnet is right in answering the way it did. They only have to be careful and at all time answer it in a polite manner and explain to the customer about their constraint rather than citing their terms and conditions stated in the contract.

In the case of fatalshak, if you are not going to be a single user and if you know down the road you would want to install the WIFI, then you should opt for the package without the modem. You will then have the freedom to choose the best of breed router/modem. In this case, the only way out as I have posted elsewhere is return their modem which in anycase is not working for you and go for the 1Mb access by paying RM 88 (an additional RM 11.00) and buy your own hardware. BTW, all the so called router/modem brands that you mentioned sounds alien to me. Brands like Cisco, 3Com and Nortel are the Superbrand followed by Astech, DLink, Prolink etc and finally one made in Kepong with FATALSHAK name on it. Any name on a hardware is a brand. Don't just switch to MAXIS. They are not much difference either. When they want to court you, they will go to the extend of putting up all the love messages everywhere in Subang Jaya/USJ even without the MPSJ approval.

Err..KWGoh :) ...IF you had bought a ZX81 meaning you have gotten it from Imbi Plaza...err..retailing at RM295 or something like that...but need to pay more for a flimzy tape recorder or a thermal printer..hehe...so tiny!....or from one of the dealers...hehehe...Clive Sinclair was a 2 time bankcrupt before he came up with this ZX81...n later ZX Spectrum...err...the later is legendary...in one aspect only...ahem...the rubbery keys are favoured by...err...roaches :D ...but it got color display on color TV!

Err...those days...we have other choices like either going for apple...apple or apple!....man...missed those pacman n tank game? :D

Back in 1986, the Sinclair ZX with 16K RAM was selling for RM 795.00 just for the console. The first model with its rubbery keyboard (even our Casio RM 20.00 calculator has better keypad than them) was selling for rm 595.00. I think I still have the receipt. Oh yes, I still have the Sinclair ZX and its games with me. One of the teh tarik session, I will show it to you all. They expect you to use your own tape recorder as a floppy drive (CD ROM was unheard of) and your good old 20 inch (the largest at that time) colour TV as a monitor. The options like the joysticks and speakers were very costly. My first two VIP customers were the Chief Minister of Penang (Tun Lim) who later bought one as a state birthday gift to the then Tun Hamdam Sheikh Tahir, the then Governor of Penang. And just because of these 2 VIPs, the state computer centre who was providing support to the IBM mainframe (IBM 4431) had to come to our office to learn the operating system of the RM 795 gadget!!! But that was the entry level machine to learn computer programming called BASIC. By the way, a little bit about how this gadget came to our shore. Tun Lim was visiting UK way back in the late 80s and at that time Penang was known as the Silicon Valley outside US. When he was taken on a tour to the Sinclair production plant, he invited Sir Clive Sinclair to set up a plant in Bayan Lepas. Sir Clive could have wonder where the shiit is this place. I think, the guy must have asked Tun Lim to buy one first. He asked "But where can I get one?" And Sir Clive then pointed to Malaysia then to KL and then to Penang, his own backyard and then finally to me (up and coming salesman) and the rest is history.
