Do U know?

Astro is in the process of sending to customers a "new improved security smart card", during the 1st week of September.
The old "dumb" card will not work after 30Sep04.

Coming with this new card..is a Astro Subscriber agreement.
If you go to the link below..You can see that you are tied to ASTRO for another 12 months, beginning from the activation of the "new" card. If you decide to stop the service from ASTRO after the activation of the "new" card..you can be charged RM500!
Some customers have used Astro for more than 12months..but now the 12 month period starts again, after the activaiton of the "new" card.

Don't you call this daylight robbery!

So if you decide to go to MiTV say in a few month's time..tough..
you are tied for another 12 monts wz Astro!

Better start making some plans b4 activating the "new" card.

CHeers!:(

Few of my friends complained about the same problem. they do not want to be locked for 12 months.

most of them wants to terminate their services as a protest and they didnt watch that often anyway.

heard the reason doing that is to avoid their customer going to MITV which will be launching soon.

i couldnt be bothered, even when i was offered once free everything but locked 12 months.

Heh gang..

When I hilited that Astro is coming out wz new card and new
service agreement..it was meant for all Astro subscribers to note.

It was not meant to be a topic to distinguish the rich from the poor!

Its up to the person to decide if he want to continue or to decide otherwise, now that he knows.

Thats the idea of participating in a Forum, where the person can get to know things that he did not know on the first place..

I read from Jeff Ooi's Blog that the matter may have been resolved, that is, there would be no new agreement.

Yes Cindy,

I hilited the issue of the "new card" on the 27Aug04/10:03pm..
Jeff's web-blog on same issue was first dated 28Aug04.

[Forum works faster than web blog?].. :D

JEFF OOI: A responsible blogger is expected to verify facts, and put the arsenals in place. :D I have to arrange for my friends at FOMCA, Pemuda Umno and Utusan to standby at their positions before I fire the shot!

So slight delay than Satish, but still ahead of the Press.

Hi Jeff & the gang,

Good for verifying the Forum posting b4 making the news
national. :D

My little bird says there might be some more surprises in the issue of the new card, as far as "security" is concerned, but lets wait and see.
Only a few more days time.

Mr Jeff Ooi should be commended for his relentless pursuit in getting Astro backtrack their agreement...Kudos and thanks for getting justice done.

Even after ASTRO has denied linking the new 'smart card replacement' to the subscriber agreement, I received this letter from Mr David Butoroc that came with the new card.

It clearly says at the bottom :

"Use of of your new smart card means you agree to the terms and conditions of the enclosed Astro Residential Subscriotion Agreement".

Referenced Letter

So after you insert the new smart card and activate it, you are still bound by the Astro Residential Subscription Agreement, which they have printed on the other side of the page that shows you how to change the "smart" card. (They think we are dumb enough not to be able to change the card.

Astro should send a fresh letter to all subscribers to cancel the earlier letter, if they really mean that activation of the new card does not make you bound to the agreement.

I know I am going to request for one, before I will activate the new smart card.

CHeers!

Got some news from a small bird at ASSTRO.

Due to the new cards have not reached some people,
the old cards can still be used for approx one more month..October 2004 and not up to 30Seo04, as they were saying tru the media.

CHeers!

Satish.
A thousand apology for being out of topic.
Are you the one who posted Radio Amateur stuff sometime last year. I need to verify something about Penang Police frequency which was trespassed by an intruder a few days ago.
Thanks
