That's drastic! Well, not a surprise. The near-empty coffers needed to be refilled.

All I could say is the event and such short notice of increase in duty is another pernicious policy..I can think of nothing else in its intention.
Please lah...IMHO, not right to associate or further confuse the issue with health matters or personal hate or liking for the cigarette. That's entirely separate from the tax policy and how its so sudden or seen as unprecedented.
Open another thread if one wants to debate ills or liking of cigarette, pipe, vaping, etc. Same goes for people who insist or like to consume alcoholic drink (whether occasionally, casual, moderate, don't matter) VS the Pious who think its sinful, must be abhorred, or an unhealthy habit which may lead to all sorts untold. Go somewhere else and debate that till the cows come home, I will not participate. Didn't someone once say, Live and Let live? or is that wrong too?

I think it is also good not to overthinking everything.

I’d say that one very common and destructive thing is that they think too much.

They overthink every little problem until it becomes bigger and scarier and it actually is. Overthink positive things until they don’t look so positive anymore.

Or overanalyze and deconstruct things and so the happiness that comes from just enjoying something in the moment disappears.

Now, thinking things through can be a great thing of course. But being an overthinker can result in becoming someone who stands still in life. In becoming someone who self-sabotages the good things that happen in life.:D

I know. I used to overthink things a lot and it held me back in ways that weren’t fun at all.

If there's any Smoker vs non-smoker topic with them testing and wayang wayang their personal ego, I can easily perceive...NO END WAN!...I rather go listen to my worst sounding CD on my hifi.
My concern is the TAX POLICY and I see it as pernicious in this particular case. They know better isn't it? Same with highest duty on imported cars and then culture them as luxury vehicles. Fair ah? How much is a Mercedes C200 in USA or EU?
1997 or somewhere there, International passport fee to RM300 from RM60 to discourage more people going and spending money abroad. Fair ah?

Why worry, I do not go near it, you do??:confused:I do but going to try drop the habit cold turkey sometime next week! Wish me luck. My family has been complaining for the longest of time. Guess the time has come. Goodbye ciggie.

Today's report in a local paper.

The new price of cigarettes announced by British American Tobacco (BAT) on Tuesday will cost you the same as 6kg of rice or four servings of nasi lemak.

OK...the internet is abundant with believable and logical info on the ills and dangers of nicotine and smoking cigarettes..period! Its only a matter of one's will to realise and fully accept its damaging, thereon to kick the habit forever if its possible, that's all to it. That's all I'll say.

Its a free world... these smokers are burning their own lungs and their own money... they are adults... and I am a smoker... leave us alone and we will leave you alone. Try and tell me to stop smoking when I am smoking in a smoking area, just be ready to get a big glass of hot teh tarek over the head...

I remember I was with a USJ forumer at a restaurant near USJ2 and smoking at a table outside the restaurant on the road.... away from everybody and a lady came sat next table with her non-smoking boyfriend and start waving her magazine like a fan towards us to keep the smoke away.... hahaha... she won't do that again in her life and neither would she forget what happened that night

And BTW why has smokers got personal ego but non-smokers no personal ego when they argue on smoking?

Out of mere fascination reading this news article, since I was reading online news anyway..

Extract from http://www.thestar.com.my/Opinion/Online-Exclusive/Ask-Dr-G/Profile/Articles/2015/11/08/Cell-phones-and-fertility/
Altering where to place the mobile device is a very simple maneouver that perhaps can protect his crown jewels from the “frying’ radiation of mobile phones. In Dr G’s opinion, the cigarette sticks he is holding probably have more impact in “license to kill” the sperms than the phone.

Matter of opinion in response to the someone's query, but then I guess everyone is just built differently and last lifetime differently. Some succumb to death or ills at different ages and time or not every smoker certainly die of lung cancer.
My late nyonya aunty was 85 when she passed away of old age and peacefully, mana cancer? or whatever resulted from smoking cigarettes? she would even have a ciggie in her lips while preparing food ingredients or when watching TV. She already had High BP and other uncontrollable ills but not crippled nor insane but controlled well with food intake and General Hospital medication. Just that she's very very old..85 or more lor! Its just ONE example but not a reference point. Its just all different.
I even candidly advised my cousins when she was very very old, quiet or senile fuss around..I told them LET HER SMOKE!..let her enjoy it to her last day..it doesn't make a difference of living many more years, only a matter of time..
Give her whatever she wants. Of course this was more than a decade ago..
Then also yearly HAZE can possibly damage your lungs rapidly too or other terrible devastating effects within ONE MONTH, Maybe there are some people who have died but not in the news..your guess is as good as mine..
I WAS SICK FOR ONE BLARDI MONTH OF HAZE!.. FFFFF the HAZE!

Just passing thoughts..

More vape shops are appearing in SJ.you into vaping? No. Vaping sounds obscene to being with.. I like nothing more than good old fashioned cigars. President Bill Clinton's favorite, too, I might add. ;-)
