The military says it is not a coup.

I call this splitting hair. So, seizing power from a caretaker government (that's what the current Thai Government is) is not a coup? ;-). Seizing power from a ruling Government is a coup? Taking the Thais for suckers?

The Constitutional Court and Military has robbed from the Thais a democratically elected Government. That's what it is.

All of the above. Thai society is also feudal, if I may add. Is it still appropriate today?

Democracy there hasn't been given an extended run to be able to take root. While there are no perfect forms of government, even a sham democracy is better than a military junta under which the people have to give up their civil liberties.

Like I have said before, man cannot live with each other. They will find something to fight over. :)

Make an effort to go there...."Chatuchak Weekend Market is one of the world's largest weekend markets covers area of 27 Acres altogether divided into 27 Sections, contains more than 15,000 booths selling goods from every part of Thailand."

You can find tour booths at most hotels and compare prices for the same tour,,,,,,For river cruise....suggest you take the BTS or commonly called Skytrain and stop at Saphan Taksin Station........walk down toward Choa Praya river......there are 2 type of ferry here...tourist type and normal......suggest you take the normal and stop at Rachawongse terminal......Chinatown......full of shopping n food then if enough time...again walk back to the ferry terminal and go to Wang Lang terminal .......cheap and good shopping

During the Bangkok protests, one of the best twitter sites was by Richard Barrow (https://twitter.com/richardbarrow). His website (http://www.richardbarrow.com/) has even more info on Bangkok...
If you are caught in the middle of any political development while in Bangkok, it will be useful to check his tweets and websites ... he even compiles a map of trouble spots - see an example here (http://www.richardbarrow.com/2014/03/map-and-information-about-protests-in-bangkok-in-march-2014/) - (give the browser a bit of time to download all the coloured pins and click to enlarge the view to get a really useful GoogleMap indicating the spots...uhhh but remember this example is for March, it is not the current situation ;) )

newbies on FIT visits to BKK or anywhere in this world best read up and beware the various scams. BKK is notorious for taking tourists to the cleaners!
Best you google 'Top Ten tourist scams in Bangkok' as well as touts, tuk-tuks, gem scams etc...

I have supposedly savvy friends falling for such scam as '10baht tutktuk', 'temple closed due to renovation', 'river cruise cancelled ue to high tide'...etcetc...

Anyway, in my books, DIY is the best way to travel and smell, taste, see the sights. Their monorail, BTS is also the best & safest way to travel around BKK.

The must-see famous places for 'materialistic side' shopping and eating

1. Silom road (many 'unique' things to see)

2. MBK shopping center (many cheap things and cheap food)

3. Chao Phraya river (for Thai souvenirs), stop at Saphan Taksin train station, then take boat and stop at several places.

4. Chinatown Yarowat (for food )

More than enough for 4 days visit

Weather is scorching hot in KL now, 35-37 deg Celsius... actual feel is like 40 deg Celsius.

Bangkok is equally hot and even hotter than KL. Population in Bangkok is more than 6 million vs KL of 1.5 million. Bangkok is more congested and much more crowded than anywhere in Malaysia. It is interesting to know there are people from this country who like to go to Bangkok.. !!

The selling point of Thailand to me is the cold mountain ranges and the tranquil countryside in the northern region.

if you have time, treat BKK as a base and use their train for day trips...cheap and fun. Who knows you might even get into one daytrip that include a white water rafting up to even class 3! YAYYYY!!!!:heheheh:

check this and and thank me later :-) Better yet, buy me a few single malts!
