This is a real problem nowadays. Read http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/opinion/2013/10/13/even-parking-near-your-house-is-difficult/ Don't even think of parking in front of a neighbour's house!

Everyday, you see cars parked along roadsides in USJ effectively, blocking one lane.

When I go house hunting my first priority is adequate parking space for my cars. I do not encroach on other peoples' parking space. Usually it is the other way around.

Most of the residents on the same road are owner occupiers and we pretty respect each other's space.

What I don't understand is why some residents do not park under the porch. They leave it empty and park the car outside the gate.

It's a Catch-22 situation ;).......many residents now own either a 'tank' or a 'mini-bus'[see image in post above for example :heheheh:].......now if the spots outside your gate are taken up by other cars....they have a tough time maneuvering their way out of their driveway, especially when there's more than 1 car in the porch.

The phrase "Catch-22", "a problematic situation for which the only solution is denied by a circumstance inherent in the problem or by a rule,"[Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catch-22)]

Ok I admit that I m guilty of parking my car in front of my driveway instead of the porch (even w autogate). I only drive it in during the night. I But the reason is not malas, if I park my car into the porch, my neighbor will park one of his numerous cars in in my driveway (partly) making exiting from my porch a real chore. Sometimes it is completely blocked and need to ask the neighbor to move. He seems apologetic but is habitual.

OK, that's unstandable. Depending on the location of the main gate and the width of a terrace house, it can be difficult for others to park a decent size car in the space between two houses without encroaching onto your gate opening. Unless it is a Perodua Kancil.

It gets worse if your next door house is rented out to a bunch of single out-of-towners working here. Of the five or six people staying there probably all of them owns a cars. You can imagine the parking mayhem. :)

Well, where you expect them to “keep” the car… :p

I know a young lady from UOB… She and another two collegues rent a unit in Court 7. The unit only have 2 parking stickers. They have to share the stickers and one of them has to car pool and park her car in the basement parking near the OCBC bank.

I guess young men will rent a landed property due to the parking restriction inside the apartment. This parking mayhem will always be there and will get worse.

Many of such houses are designed to park 1-2 cars only...

Where you expect them to park their car when the car porch or empty compound of the house is not enough to accommodate all the cars ?

From the photos you all think its a problem? You have never been to flats and apartments. Those people have worse parking problems and even narrower roads. So its the driver's fault? Well, human nature is selfish and everybody wants convenience to themselves regardless how their inconsiderate action is causing problems to others. Looks at the schools parking and you'll know my meaning.

Have you ever thought that this parking mess do not happen in Singapore, Hong Kong or Australia. ?

Look, its a very challenging era we live in right now.
If you happen to live along a row of terrace with each home having an average of 2-3 cars or even more..YOU'RE DAMNED! I think its now common one home have average 3 cars.
If you happen to live in some flat like what Jokee described...YOU'RE DAMNED!
Then the traffic situation at schools especially during pick up time!... Traffic jam at its worst!...DAMNED AGAIN even for those driving through the main road! I already said schools shouldn't be within residential areas. Should be far off, all educational establishments at one huge campus out of township. Jam there for all I care, don't cause bottlenecks on busy trunk roads here in SJ.
Just have to find your own workarounds or ultimate solution. Your 1Gomen isn't there to ease anything for you...they're busy holding on at power struggles or position..nothing much else is important.

It'll become a bigger mess if car prices are lowered. Then every man and his uncle will own a car. :D

I don't think so. People still insist on buying regardless of price cheap or expensive. The heart rules the head mostly.
Its because of bad circumstances of public transport for decades that put pressure to people to buying new car for transport and other status or even prestige...Oh!..future son in law must own car wan!...if not...forget it!.. :mua-haha:
Look!..for now..I've to go Jalan Pasar KL from USJ...do you know what a blardi hassle it is to get there?. If I drive there...hardly any parking at peak hours, not to mention Jalan S Besi and Fed Highway is heavy traffic. Public transport? Rapidbus to Pasar Seni, LRT PS to Masjid Jamek, Star LRT to Pudu... KRAZY ah?????? There's other train commuter to Bank Negara, then Star LRT to Pudu, or Bukit Jalil to Pudu by Star LRT!.. STILL HAVE TO DRIVE to the stations!..
I LOATH GOING TO KL from USJ UNLESS I HAVE TO FOR SOME IMPORTANT REASON!
Eventhough this upcoming Subang LRT is a blardi EYESORE and a huge disaster to numerous corner homes (less than 50m away only) along the route, WE HAVE NO OTHER ATTRACTIVE CHOICE for public transport at lower cost!
It should have been UNDERGROUND! ALL TOO LATE!

If you ask me, I wouldn't give a hoot to what happen in S'pore, HK or Bangkok. That is entirely for their citizens to shout out or make their politicians do something. We are not the ones voting for their reps nor contribute any revenue to that gomen. Selfish it may seem to be, or to pity them, our own backyard is to be addressed first as WE are the ones facing the problems head on and there seems little progress albeit get worse by the year and our politicians or parties are busy with religious or clinging on to power struggles everyday presented in the mainstream media...WHICH SEEMS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY OTHER ACTIVITY OR WOES that affect the well being of ordinary rakyat! Nuff said!. I've to run off to Jln Pasar to get some stuff urgently....BY LRT!
If you ask me again, For one, ESCALATING PRICES of homes making them out of reach IS A HUGE ISSUE than some hoot nonsense about protecting some religious issue or party elections...WHY SHOULD ALL THAT BE IN THE NEWS NEARLY EVERYDAY?????? WE WANT BETTER..and they are NOT delivering fast enough!
Anyway, the problem of numerous cars at front of home will not see a great solution, only unless people sell off the car, move away, or coincidentally less in number for some reason. I don't see another solution. People will just park cars nearest to where one reside, don't care got 10 cars one household or not.

Exactly the point, bslee..

I don’t know why some people like to compare the mess here with the plus there without highlighting the bigger living mess over there…

In DAP-land can you pay your taxes to LGE instead of Ah Jib Gor?

There's always scores of non resident and opportunists parking their cars along the long road front of my place everyday from Day 1. I can virtually do nothing. MPSJ can saman everyday and it won't change the situation. Maybe people who kena saman won't park for a while but other opportunists will do so, so that doesn't change anything. There's a vacant house couple of doors away..those opportunists can smell the situation and conveniently park there when no-one is looking.

Such rampant parkings will never change now or in the future or with a new Gahman.

It is a habit & culture

If one household 3-4 cars live in terrace home...what is least expected of owners to address this phenomenon?
Sell off or reduce the number of cars or don't own any and suffer with public transport woes?
Move away to a bigger home which can accommodate all the cars without hindrance to others?
Pay for some public parking lot somewhere near or far away to help ease the situation?
Start earning a fat salary, employ a driver, tell him to come drive you around everyday, he can house the car at his own place after work.
Lastly, SM suggestion, everyone move to Tanjung Bungah Penang, fully support LGE in free bus fare proposition, make sure you vote him in every GE if that does materialize!
