Hardly can you find street foods that is acceptable to foreign visitors like the Americans where there are not burger or hot dog stands. Can hardly see them fancy street vendors foods like Smelly Tofu, Char Siew Pau, Lok Lok, Chi Cheong Fun or Sambal belacan udang. :heheheh:

BTW, if anyone thinks China food is dirty, think again and observe how our Bolehland prep the food at home or at Kaki Lima in pasar malam where the Mickey Mouse or Mat tikus roam freely as bees.

Those Reuters fellas know nut about Asian food...

Their ranking is based on the stars of hotel, the class of flight, the entertainment at night, etc the host city provided to them !!

If MPSJ willing to foot the bill for 1st class flight, deluxe suites in Traders KL plus free golf or free Datai Langkawi stays, the Reuters folks will tell the world that those apanama food stalls along USJ/SJ is among the best in the world !! ;)

hahaha ... Taiwan and Singapore street food LOOK GREAT and BEST on Asian Food Channel  .... but once you "turun padang" on their streets, you will swear never to eat again when you know there are 100s of places better in Malaysia .... :mua-haha:

The only food I rate in Spore BETTER than Malaysia is the LIM CHEE GHUAN bakwa ... that one is really GOOD !!! Our local "Kiew Bros" is no where near ....

and before someone throws in BEE CHIANG HIANG ... it is also Sporean ... :D

Singapore's street food is definitely better than Penang. I would love to support Penang but how to support when Singkies are better than our Penang hawkers. It is time Penang thought really hard why they lose out to the Singkies.

Perhaps Penang gahmen could think of of centralizing all the best and very best hawkers to once huge central location, maintain the highest hygiene standards, best waste management, best eating out atmosphere and enviroment WITHOUT imminent hikes in prices.. world class (or at least in SEA, die die must try place for tourists!) street food place..must be by local Penangnites, not mingled with all sorts of foreign elements of other asian extra labor. No bangla or Indon char kway teow or thai dishes by them please..originality lost!

Not sure what is the definition of street food here but strictly speaking, Singapore has no street food. They have hawker food but in food courts.

To me, the top 3 Asian countries for easy accessibility of street food are: KL, Bangkok, and Jakarta. In terms of taste, I will say Malaysia, India, and Thailand. I do not like the food in China and Taiwan; either too Chinese or not too Chinese, depends on how you look at it.

Can someone verify if those food vendors are actually Malaysians in the first place? I thought I read somewhere that Singapore imported a lot of Malaysian street-food vendors (gave then PR?)

Thats quite true, but I suppose Singapore knows best how to manage this. Its to their advantage in terms of licensing and many other aspects of control. moreover times have changed, surely they know best.
Look at our pasar malams?... lots of them leave piles of mess and garbage just after one night!.. if not for town council cleaning up? you think they're very very responsible people to ensure the place is as clean as they started for business?, I think not. Same for random or solo hawkers anywhere here.

People who comment on Penang vs Singapore hawker food like they REALLY know Penang / Singapore hawker food. Just go Gurney Drive (Georgetown) or Lau Pa Sat (Tg Pagar) is not hawker food, that is TOURIST FOOD!

We will always refute the opinions about Sing food being better than Penang food... like here (http://www.mmail.com.my/story/our-food-tastes-better-say-locals-and-tourists-23631). But to me, the thick Hokkien Mee in dark soy sauce originated from KL and no one does it better!! :D

The facts speak for itself. How many Malaysians go to Singapore for good and cheap street food? And how many Singaporeans come to Malaysia for good and cheap street food? The difference in numbers will be mind boggling.

But I concede that Singapore has better crabs even though they are more expensive. I love their 1.2 kilo crab which is good for 3 people because it is filled with meat and roe.

Tasted the spare part porridge at junction of Macalister / New Lane in Penang where the intestines and whatever spare parts are deep fried crispy crispy first?

Tasted the Soup Gearbox along Jln Dato Keramat in Penang?

Or the teochew beehoon on the main street going into Haadyai?

HK is not near to what we have in Malaysia/Thailand/Singapore lah!

Tried the bakwa opposite Eu Yan Sang in SS2?

Or even simple food like Meng Kee Char Siew in Glenmarie?

Or Bak Kut Teh at Taman Sri Tebrau in JB?

Or drink kopi kau at the railway station in Kluang?

Or eat turtle kuey teow in Kuala Pilah?

Or ikan patin masak lemak in Temerloh?

Or mutton curry next to the river in A Setar (opp Sime Tyre factory)?

Singapore and HK don't come near us lah... Malaysia is best for cuisine!

Undeniably to all Malaysians, this land have lots and lots to offer, trouble is, its spread all over length and breadth of the country and most may not have the time, energy or cost to frequently or conveniently go on a tour just to satisfy their tastebuds. That little red dot is everything that place have is within that island.

Singapore is the Mount Everest, Penang is the hill. It is not too late for Penang to buck up.

People said Penang food very nice. I say Ipoh, KL, PJ food are better than Penang.

Hello, SiangMalam was trying to keep you guys to stick to the thread topic, i.e. street food.
No doubt Penang wins hands down versus Temasek.

It will be very difficult and rare to find street food in HK.
They have been moved indoor years ago.
There are only a handful legal Tai Pai Dong left in Central/SheungWan and Mongkok, if you term those street food.

Hahhaa ... and I am the EXACT OPPOSITE, I avoid restaurants like the plague unless I have no choice !!! I don't believe in air-cond, serviette, kinky waitresses or soft cushion will make the FOOD TASTE BETTER ... AMBIENCE maybe ... definitely not the food !! In fact, I believe in INVERSE LOGIC, the fancier the place, the crappier the food .... or more positively, a crappy place has got nothing going for it except THE FOOD , so if it is doing a good business, guess what is good ? ;)
