Getting some local gift items or souvenirs in USJ or SJ. Going to US on 23 May for our daughter's graduation. She asked to buy for local souvenirs for her 3 professors. Appreciate suggestions on what to get and where. Thank you very much!

.... local batik.

Buddy - you should go to Jln Masjid India and grab them sarongs ( batik ) under RM15 each. Easy to carry and doesn't flout US Customs and USDA... forget about foodstuffs or wooden carving stuff...

Yah USJ27Resident is right, the batek sarongs are much appreciated by the westerns... better still if you can get those ready-to-wear kaftans made from batek... they love those and summer is coming too...

Another thing they like is the small baskets made from mengkuang or rotans...

If you want something more expensive, there is a book with collection of watercolors of the main historical buildings throughout Malaysia with very well-written narratives on the significance of each building / landmark... I think its like RM259 each... but really good quality publication... I gave it out in a conference in Penang about 5 years ago when the entire BoD flew in for their annual LTP meeting... of a soft drink company made more famous by an African boy who picked up its bottle dropped from a passing light plane....
