The report from initial test drive is very good. The only car below RM100K that can go sub-10 sec from 0-60 m/hr. Rigid strength, good NVH, 4 air bags, in-built GPS, and many more. Sounds too good to be true for RM75K.

Worth buying?

Went to test drive the top model turbo charged Preve and it was a very disappointing experience. Good thing the SA belanca me and my wife a good duck rice lunch otherwise the whole trip is wasted. I cannot understand why the power is so lacking and the car vibrates so much when it is accelerating. My bumb and legs can feel the vibration. The engine sound is loud too. Even though I do not have a chance to try it on the highway, it is sufficient for me to change my mind about Preve.

I think its fuel consumption is not too good......

Cheers!

What made you to say so?

What made you to say so?

Any car with turbo-charged features is meant to be driven fast or in spurts of high speed. Such sudden revving of the engine inevitably incurs some higher fuel consumption than normal sedate driving...

Thinking critically that one wants a car to be driven everyday to work/play etc. and along the way put food on the table for the family..Think about the everyday cost. I think it adds up...

Bear in mind, the car has just been launch and most motoring scribes has not given it a comprehensive review, just market hype...

This is not to distract you from buying the car if you so desire...Just putting on my thinking cap......

Cheers!

Dear VeeJay...

Reading "number crunching" statistics in motoring sources is not reflective of actual real world driving of a person....
Your right foot is DA BOSS! ...;)-

One's decision-making processes in buying a car should be more holistic - IMHO - rather than just depending on motoring reviews' figures alone...
If you want a "fast" car - period - by all means go for it...
If one is "kiasu/kiasi" like me in terms of economy and speed, then one would make more critical evaluations...
At the end of the day, you ARE THE BOSS!...;)-

Cheers!

What fonzie said may be true. I had to step on the pedal a lot more than usual to get the car going. Apparently it may be strong mid and high torque but not low torgue. It was hard to get the car going from stand still. Unfortunately I do not have a long stretch of road to test the mid torque. I keep running into traffic at 60km/hr or 2,000 rpm. But then, 70% of the usual drive are around 60-90km/hr around town, so in that respect, the Preve is disappointing. Proton cannot expect car owners to keep pumping the gas pedal to keep the rpm above 2000. There must be sufficient acceleration from stand still. Even my wife's 17 year old Sentra feels faster.

Saw the car in the showroom, overall the car is in good marks, spacious, good quality seats, free 4G for a yr.simple dashboard, good headrest and armrest.Still the 1.6l engine that fix in Persona. But the price should be RM50-55K.If this car won't sell....Proton can gulong tikar.

The premium model has a slightly different engine; which is campro cfe (turbo charged), similar to VW.

what has QC to do with it, you go and drive fast at 120km/h and hit a curb, do you think you will be still laughing?

Any car would experience the same scenario, unless you are driving a tank!

But how do we know that it was driven at 120km/hr? My Preve test car could not even go past 60km/hr due to traffic jam. Even if it does, being a new car, it is rather bad that the lower arm breaks so easily. The lower arm is meant to tolerate lots of abuses. That is what it is for.

Aside from this incident, the QC is not good. My test car has seat belts at the back but no sockets to plug it in. The car vibrates lots and the engine humming sound was loud. From other forums, the welding was badly done too - with photographs to show. I changed my mine about buying it. I will stick to a used Camry.

I think proton changes since Mahaleel leaves .Those days M'sian have no choice but to buy proton as the next cheapest car Nissan Sentra RM90k.Nowadays the design is good and durable but the damage is done and M'sains are getting more effulent and buy other brands. The preve is not a bad car but as i stated before it should price at RM50-55k to get back it's customers.

What son was thinking of that but after I read the thread on Inspira, I told him to change his mind. The quality is so inconsistent. It is like playing lottery; most time you lose but every once a while, you get a good one.

Aiseh man, join me and buy a 2002 Camry lah. This car will last another 10 years easily. Cheaper than the new Vios or City. The difference in price can use for maintenance for more than 10 years. And you got comfort, safety and prestige in return.

Just did a service on a 12 year old Kancil, it will go another 10 years easily. I would need to be very stupid to sell a reliable trouble free car
